Rational physical agent reasoning beyond logic
The paper addresses the problem of defining a theoretical physical agent framework that satisfies practical requirements of programmability by non-programmer engineers and at the same time permitting fast realtime operation of agents on digital computer networks. The objective of the new framework is to enable the satisfaction of performance requirements on autonomous vehicles and robots in space exploration, deep underwater exploration, defense reconnaissance, automated manufacturing and household automation
Embedding agents in business applications using enterprise integration patterns
This paper addresses the issue of integrating agents with a variety of
external resources and services, as found in enterprise computing environments.
We propose an approach for interfacing agents and existing message routing and
mediation engines based on the endpoint concept from the enterprise integration
patterns of Hohpe and Woolf. A design for agent endpoints is presented, and an
architecture for connecting the Jason agent platform to the Apache Camel
enterprise integration framework using this type of endpoint is described. The
approach is illustrated by means of a business process use case, and a number
of Camel routes are presented. These demonstrate the benefits of interfacing
agents to external services via a specialised message routing tool that
supports enterprise integration patterns
Aplib: Tactical Programming of Intelligent Agents
This paper presents aplib, a Java library for programming intelligent agents,
featuring BDI and multi agency, but adding on top of it a novel layer of
tactical programming inspired by the domain of theorem proving. Aplib is also
implemented in such a way to provide the fluency of a Domain Specific Language
(DSL). Compared to dedicated BDI agent programming languages such as JASON,
2APL, or GOAL,aplib's embedded DSL approach does mean that \aplib\ programmers
will still be limited by Java syntax, but on other hand they get all the
advantages that Java programmers get: rich language features (object
orientation, static type checking, -expression, libraries, etc), a
whole array of development tools, integration with other technologies, large
community, etc
BDI4JADE:a BDI layer on top of JADE
Abstract. Several agent platforms that implement the belief-desire-intention (BDI) architecture have been proposed. Even though most of them are implemented based on existing general purpose programming languages, e.g. Java, agents are either programmed in a new programming language or Domain-specific Language expressed in XML. As a consequence, this prevents the use of advanced features of the underlying programming language and the integration with existing libraries and frameworks, which are essential for the development of enterprise applications. Due to these limitations of BDI agent platforms, we have implemented the BDI4JADE, which is presented in this paper. It is implemented as a BDI layer on top of JADE, a well accepted agent platform
Agents for educational games and simulations
This book consists mainly of revised papers that were presented at the Agents for Educational Games and Simulation (AEGS) workshop held on May 2, 2011, as part of the Autonomous Agents and MultiAgent Systems (AAMAS) conference in Taipei, Taiwan. The 12 full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from various submissions. The papers are organized topical sections on middleware applications, dialogues and learning, adaption and convergence, and agent applications
FROM A RESEARCH TO AN INDUSTRY-STRENGTH AGENT PLATFORM: JADEX V2
Since the beginning of the nineties multi-agent systems have been seen as a promising new software paradigm that is capable to overcome conceptual weaknesses of mainstream object-oriented software solutions. Despite these theoretical advantages, in practice agent software is rarely used and as software paradigm has been widely superseded by the service-oriented architecture. One key reason for the slow adoption of agent-based ideas is that existing agent software in most cases does not provide business-relevant features such as persistency or scalability. Hence, in this paper it is analyzed which essential business requirements exist and a solution agent platform architecture is presented. This architecture has been implemented within the Jadex V2 agent platform, which is a complete overhaul of the V1 architecture
