    History, Features, Challenges, and Critical Success Factors of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) in The Era of Industry 4.0

    ERP has been adopting newer features over the last several decades and shaping global businesses with the advent of newer technologies. This research article uses a state-of-the-art review method with the purpose to review and synthesize the latest information on the possible integration of potential Industry 4.0 technologies into the future development of ERP. Different software that contributed to the development of the existing ERP is found to be Material Requirement Planning (MRP), Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRPII), and Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM). Potential disruptive Industry 4.0 technologies that are featured to be integrated into future ERP are artificial intelligence, business intelligence, the internet of things, big data, blockchain technology, and omnichannel strategy. Notable Critical Success Factors of ERP have been reported to be top management support, project team, IT infrastructure, communication, skilled staff, training & education, and monitoring & evaluation. Moreover, cybersecurity has been found to be the most challenging issue to overcome in future versions of ERP. This review article could help future ERP researchers and respective stakeholders contribute to integrating newer features in future versions of ERP

The final published article is available from the link below.Manufacturing firms are under many financial and competitive pressures which focus attention on the performance of their manufacturing processes. In this paper the opportunities for improving the environmental impact of products within the constraints of existing manufacturing infrastructure are examined. Approaches which support sustainability in two aspects are proposed, firstly, the provision of products to the users in ways which extend the product life and secondly, manufacturing approaches which reduce resource usage. This paper outlines three different sustainable development strategies for different product types and describes the cost implications for manufacturers across the life-cycle. The performance measures affected by these strategies are examined drawing on product development case studies from a number of high technology sectors to highlight the different approaches taken. The results are intended to aid manufacturers during the earliest stages of business planning to consider alternative product development approaches which are more sustainable

    Implementing integrated advanced technologies is an effective approach towards solving most problems in today’s competitive global market Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) technologies are presented as a solution to manufacturing organisations which need to perform well. This research describes the major issues and problems facing developing countnes that wish to implement CIM. In this investigation, Libya is taken as an example of a developing country, while Ireland is used as a model of a more developed country, which has already implemented components of the CIM technology in some of its industrial companies. This research demonstrates the effect of CIM technology on Irish industry by investigating the cost effectiveness of implementing CIM, reduction of the production time, reduction of the product cost and management efficiency. To carry out this study, 267 questionnaires were distributed to manufacturing companies in Ireland in order to help establish the status of CIM within manufacturing companies, to study the effect of CIM on Irish industries. To study CIM in Libyan industries, four Libyan companies were investigated to assess the CIM level in their companies and the possibility of implementing CIM technology in Libyan companies as a developing country. The mam findings of this research are that successful implementation of CIM depends on sufficient initial and continued investment from within the country and outside. Furthermore, in order to implement CIM successfully it is vital that there is sufficient expertise and trained workers

    This paper encompasses a state-of-the-art review on smart manufacturing system (SMS), focusing on theoretical relevance to technology development and technology management. The theoretical foundation of technology development has been reviewed based on the Rogers’ Diffusion of Innovation (DoI) theory and technology management has been focused on the basis of Technology Strategy Model (TSM) of Rieck and Dickson to shape the paper with theory of Management of Technology (MOT). A patent on SMS has been discussed to show how different technologies are integrated into this system. The characteristics of SMS have discussed the overall aspects of this future technological system. The the global textile complex has been depicted with a proposed SMS model of the apparel production unit. This study integrates the latest articles and technology on future manufacturing system perspectives, which gives a robust idea of mintegration have been identified as the major components of SMS. A brief model of SMS in the apparel production system demonstrated how SMS works in the industry level.
