    Software Runtime Data: Visualization and Integration with Development Data – A Case Study

    Tarkvara kvaliteet on tarkvaraarenduse protsessi ĂŒks peamisi aspekte. Kuigi tarkvaraarenduse ja kasutuse (kĂ€itusaja) protsessid toodavad erinevat tĂŒĂŒpi andmeid, on ettevĂ”tetel vĂ€he toetust, et saada Ă”igel ajal andmete pĂ”hjal arusaadavat ja tegutsema panevat teavet. Praktikud seisavad silmitsi tarkvaraprobleemide kindlakstegemise vĂ€ljakutsega varase tarkvaraarenduse etappide ajal. Magistritöö eesmĂ€rk oli pakkuda reaalajas tegutsevat teavet tarkvarasĂŒsteemide kasutamise ajal esinevate kĂ€itusvigade ja krahhide kohta ning uurida selle integreerimist arendusteabega. See töö on tehtud projekti Q-Rapids raames Fraunhoferi Eksperimentaalse Tarkvaratehnika Instituudis (IESE). Valitud juhtum on sise-nutika kĂŒla projekt - Digitale Dörfer (DD). Uurimistöö peamisteks panusteks on: a) DD projektist saadaolevate kĂ€itusaja andmete kogumine; b) sprintide planeerimise kĂ€igus otsuste tegemiseks juhtpaneelide loomine; c) CRISP-DM meetodi rakendamine tarkvara kĂ€itusaja ja arendusteabe integreerimiseks. Pakutavad ĂŒhendused ja integratsiooni skriptid on korduvkasutatavad. Edasisteks uuringuteks vĂ”ib kasutada kaudseid raskusi ja Ă”ppetunde, mis on saadud tarkvara kĂ€itusaja ja arendusteabe integreerimisest.Software quality is one of the key aspects of the software development process. Although software development and usage (runtime) processes produce a different type of data, there is little support for companies to obtain insightful and actionable information from data at the right time. Practitioners face a challenge in identifying software problems during the early software development stages. The goal of the master thesis was to provide actionable real-time information about runtime errors and crashes during the usage of software systems and explore its integration with development data. This work has been done within the project Q-Rapids at Fraunhofer IESE. The selected case is the internal smart village project - Digitale Dörfer (DD). The main contributions of the thesis are: a) collecting available runtime data from the DD the project; b) creating dashboards to make decisions during sprint planning; c) applying CRISP-DM method to the integration of software runtime and development data. The provided connectors and integration scripts are reusable. Reported challenges and lessons learned from the integration of software runtime and development data may be used for further research

    Do Agile Scaling Approaches Make A Difference? An Empirical Comparison of Team Effectiveness Across Popular Scaling Approaches

    In the era of Agile methodologies, organizations are exploring strategies to scale development across teams. Various scaling strategies have emerged, from "SAFe" to "LeSS", with some organizations creating their own methods. Despite numerous studies on organizational challenges with these approaches, none have empirically compared their impact on Agile team effectiveness. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Agile teams using different scaling methods, focusing on factors like responsiveness, stakeholder satisfaction, and management approach. We surveyed 15,078 Agile team members and 1,841 stakeholders, followed by statistical analyses. The results showed minor differences in effectiveness across scaling strategies. In essence, the choice of scaling strategy does not significantly impact team effectiveness, and organizations should select based on their culture and management style

Para isso, serĂĄ analisado o caso de um projeto real ongoing e a framework serĂĄ desenvolvida e experimentada com vista ao aperfeiçoamento do mesmo. Com este projeto de dissertação pretendemos fazer um levantamento de toda a informação relacionada com a engenharia de software, metodologias ĂĄgeis e mĂ©tricas que sĂŁo utilizadas para fazer controlo de projetos de software. Isto vai tambĂ©m envolver um estudo de metodologias tradicionais para compreender limitaçÔes e benefĂ­cios em contraste com as metodologias ĂĄgeis e o impacto que estas tĂȘm nas organizaçÔes. Uma abordagem ĂĄgil tem como pressuposto um agilizar dos processos da equipa de desenvolvimento, com rĂĄpidas entregas de software produzido ao cliente para que haja constante feedback entre o cliente e a organização. Assim, requisitos que nĂŁo estejam a ir ao acordo do planeamento podem mais facilmente ser alterados. A framework criada foi testada num caso real de desenvolvimento de software, apesar de a ideia inicial ser o aperfeiçoamento de uma framework depois de testar em projetos reais, mas jĂĄ terminados e sĂł de seguida passar ao projeto real de caso de estudo.The assumption behind this paper is the development of a metric framework in the branch of project management, with focus on project being developed through agile methodologies. In order to do so, a real and ongoing project was analyzed, and the framework developed and tested to improve it. With this dissertation project, it’s intended to absorb all the knowledge related with software engineering, agile methodology and metrics used to control software projects. This will involve a study of traditional methodology to understand the limitations and benefits in contrast with the agile methodology and the impact this has on organizations. An agile approach has as assumption, expedite the team development processes with quick software delivery produced to the client, having constant feedback between client and organization. This away, requirements that are not going according to plan can easily be altered. The created framework was tested in a real case of software development, even though the initial idea was to perfect the framework after testing in already finished projects and only then pass onto the real case study project

    Automated Detection of Complex Tactical Patterns in Football—Using Machine Learning Techniques to Identify Tactical Behavior

    Football tactics is a topic of public interest, where decisions are predominantly made based on gut instincts from domain-experts. Sport science literature often highlights the need for evidence-based research on football tactics, however the limited capabilities in modeling the dynamics of football has prevented researchers from gaining usable insights. Recent technological advances have made high quality football data more available and affordable. Particularly, positional data providing player and ball coordinates at every instance of a match can be combined with event data containing spatio-temporal information on any event taking place on the pitch (e.g. passes, shots, fouls). On the other hand, the application of machine learning methods to domain-specific problems yields a paradigm shift in many industries including sports. The need for more informed decisions as well as automating time consuming processes—accelerated by the availability of data—has motivated many scientific investigations in football analytics. This thesis is part of a research program combining methodologies from sports and data science to address the following problems: the synchronization of positional and event data, objectively quantifying offensive actions, as well as the detection of tactical patterns. Although various basic insights from the overall research program are integrated, this thesis focuses primarily on the latter one. Specifically, positional and event data are used to apply machine learning techniques to identify eight established tactical patterns in football: namely high-/mid-/low-block defending, build-up/attacking play in the offense, counterpressing and counterattacks during transitions, and patterns when defending corner-kicks, e.g. player-/zonal- or post-marking. For each pattern, we consolidate definitions with football experts and label large amounts of data manually using video recordings. The inter-labeler reliability is used to ensure that each pattern is well-defined. Unsupervised techniques are used for the purpose of exploration, and supervised machine learning methods based on expert-labeled data for the final detection. As an outlook, semi-supervised methods were used to reduce the labeling effort. This thesis proves that the detection of tactical patterns can optimize everyday processes in professional clubs, and leverage the domain of tactical analysis in sport science by gaining unseen insights. Additionally, we add value to the machine learning domain by evaluating recent methods in supervised and semi supervised machine learning on challenging, real-world problems

The increasing cost of resources require enterprises to re-design their value creation processes to be more sustainable, to optimize the supplier network to become more resilient and to accelerate digitizing of operations to enhance operational effectiveness. This year's WGAB research seminar is themed around Digitization of the work environment for sustainable production and seeks to contribute solutions to the current challenges. The scientific discourse aims to advance the sustainable and data-based organization of value creation processes. Exemplary efforts for the sustainable production of 3D printed footwear and the circular supply chain of energy production will be discussed. With advances in sensory data collection in cyber-physical production systems (CPPS), there are new opportunities for sensing the status of manufacturing systems, which enable advanced data analytics to contribute to a sustainable production. Intelligent processes enable sustainable value creation and bi-directional knowledge exchange between humans and machines. With people at the centre of the CPPS, production systems shall be both adaptive and personalized for every worker. People need to be involved in the technological and organizational changes. Simulating the migration from a linear economy to a circular economy supports the trend of regionalized production networks. Digital assistance systems are tested to back up resilient manufacturing.     Re-thinking Mobility Poverty

    "This book seeks to better conceptualise and define mobility poverty, addressing both its geographies and socio-economic landscapes. It moves beyond the analysis of ‘transport poverty’ and innovatively explores mobility inequalities and social construction of mobility disadvantages. The debate on mobility poverty is gaining momentum due to its role in triggering social exclusion and economic deprivation. In this light, this book examines the social construction of mobility poverty by delving into mobility patterns and needs as they are differently experienced by social groups in different geographical situations. It considers factors such as the role of transport regimes and their social value when analysing the social construction of individual®s mobility needs. Furthermore, the gaps between articulated and unarticulated needs are identified by observing actual travel patterns of individuals. The book offers a comparison of the global phenomenon through fieldwork conducted in six different European countries – Greece, Portugal, Italy, Luxembourg, Romania and Germany. This book will be useful reading for planners, sociologists, geographers, mobility/transport researchers, mobility advocates, policy-makers and transport practitioners.     Remembering African Labor Migration to the Second World

    This open access book is about Mozambicans and Angolans who migrated in state-sponsored schemes to East Germany in the late 1970s and throughout the 1980s. They went to work and to be trained as a vanguard labor force for the intended African industrial revolutions. While they were there, they contributed their labor power to the East German economy. This book draws on more than 260 life history interviews and uncovers complex and contradictory experiences and transnational encounters. What emerges is a series of dualities that exist side by side in the memories of the former migrants: the state and the individual, work and consumption, integration and exclusion, loss and gain, and the past in the past and the past in the present and future. By uncovering these dualities, the book explores the lives of African migrants moving between the Third and Second worlds. Devoted to the memories of worker-trainees, this transnational study comes at a time when historians are uncovering the many varied, complicated, and important connections within the global socialist world
