    Get PDF
This paper introduces a human posture tracking platform to identify the human postures of sitting, standing or lying down, based on a smartwatch. This work develops such a system as a proof-of-concept study to investigate a smartwatch's ability to be used in future remote health monitoring systems and applications. This work validates the smartwatches' ability to track the posture of users accurately in a laboratory setting while reducing the sampling rate to potentially improve battery life, the first steps in verifying that such a system would work in future clinical settings. The algorithm developed classifies the transitions between three posture states of sitting, standing and lying down, by identifying these transition movements, as well as other movements that might be mistaken for these transitions. The system is trained and developed on a Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch, and the algorithm was validated through a leave-one-subject-out cross-validation of 20 subjects. The system can identify the appropriate transitions at only 10 Hz with an F-score of 0.930, indicating its ability to effectively replace smart phones, if needed

The large number of vehicles constantly seeking access to congested areas in cities means that finding a public parking place is often difficult and causes problems for drivers and citizens alike. In this context, strategies that guide vehicles from one point to another, looking for the most optimal path, are needed. Most contributions in the literature are routing strategies that take into account different criteria to select the optimal route required to find a parking space. This paper aims to identify the types of smart parking systems (SPS) that are available today, as well as investigate the kinds of vehicle detection techniques (VDT) they have and the algorithms or other methods they employ, in order to analyze where the development of these systems is at today. To do this, a survey of 274 publications from January 2012 to December 2019 was conducted. The survey considered four principal features: SPS types reported in the literature, the kinds of VDT used in these SPS, the algorithms or methods they implement, and the stage of development at which they are. Based on a search and extraction of results methodology, this work was able to effectively obtain the current state of the research area. In addition, the exhaustive study of the studies analyzed allowed for a discussion to be established concerning the main difficulties, as well as the gaps and open problems detected for the SPS. The results shown in this study may provide a base for future research on the subject.Fil: Diaz Ogás, Mathias Gabriel. Universidad Nacional de San Juan. Get PDF
An openly accessible, remotely operated smart home will be demonstrated as a tool for students to learn about residential energy usage and environmental impacts. Specifically, the demonstration unit provides classrooms an engaging experience that teaches students about energy efficiency technologies and how their behavior will have an impact on energy usage and the environment. It is expected that as students become aware of and understand how various energy efficiency technologies work barriers to their adoption will be lowered. The use of a web accessible, remote laboratory dramatically reduces lab setup time and equipment cost/space requirements for educators. Special attention is given to the web based interface to ensure the system is easy to use and requires only a standard web browser in order to operate. The interface also includes a video link so the user can feel that they are working with real hardware in real time and not using a simulation or virtual facility. An associated website provides a self-scheduling tool to provide access to the system and a resource for related background information on smart grid and residential energy efficiency technologies. In addition, supporting instructional materials that coincide with NGSS standards are available via download

Internet of Things (IoT) has gained substantial attention recently and play a significant role in smart city application deployments. A number of such smart city applications depend on sensor fusion capabilities in the cloud from diverse data sources. We introduce the concept of IoT and present in detail ten different parameters that govern our sensor data fusion evaluation framework. We then evaluate the current state-of-the art in sensor data fusion against our sensor data fusion framework. Our main goal is to examine and survey different sensor data fusion research efforts based on our evaluation framework. The major open research issues related to sensor data fusion are also presented.Comment: Accepted to be published in International Journal of Distributed Systems and Technologies (IJDST), 201

Maximizing Network Lifetime using Fuzzy Based Secure Data Aggregation Protocol (FSDAP) in a Wireless Sensor Networks

Secure Data Aggregation in Wireless Senor Networks (WSNs) is a challenging issue. The various protocols has been suggested in the recent past such as EDIT[13], ADA[8], TSDA[9], SEDAN[10]. These protocols effectively meet the constraints of WSNs. In this paper, we have proposed a Fuzzy Based Secure Data Aggregation protocol (FSDAP) which is an efficient localized protocol. The FSDAP protocol is designed with three phases. The first phase selects Aggregator Node using ANS algorithm. An ANS algorithm involves two steps to elect an Aggregator Node in the clustered network. In first step, the cluster head is selected based on the Euclidean distance and in second step, the cluster head is selected based on the fuzzy product and fuzzy value (α). Then, in second phase, a selected AN eliminates data redundancy sensed by all sensor nodes within the cluster. Finally, in third phase, the FSDAP protocol effectively detects malicious node and provides secure data transmission path. Thus, the proposed protocol, FSDAP utilizes the node’s resource parameter uniformly, which in turn improves Network Lifetime, maximizes Throughput Rate, maximizes Packet Delivery Ratio and minimizes End-to-End Delay. The FSDAP is simulated using the NS2 simulator and compared with centroid algorithms Fuzzy C-Means and K-Means algorithm and a secure aggregation protocol implemented using SAR (Secure Aware Ad hoc Routing). The time complexity of FSDAP protocol is O(m2n)
