    OntoTouTra: tourist traceability ontology based on big data analytics

    Tourist traceability is the analysis of the set of actions, procedures, and technical measures that allows us to identify and record the space–time causality of the tourist’s touring, from the beginning to the end of the chain of the tourist product. Besides, the traceability of tourists has implications for infrastructure, transport, products, marketing, the commercial viability of the industry, and the management of the destination’s social, environmental, and cultural impact. To this end, a tourist traceability system requires a knowledge base for processing elements, such as functions, objects, events, and logical connectors among them. A knowledge base provides us with information on the preparation, planning, and implementation or operation stages. In this regard, unifying tourism terminology in a traceability system is a challenge because we need a central repository that promotes standards for tourists and suppliers in forming a formal body of knowledge representation. Some studies are related to the construction of ontologies in tourism, but none focus on tourist traceability systems. For the above, we propose OntoTouTra, an ontology that uses formal specifications to represent knowledge of tourist traceability systems.     A simulation framework for the design and evaluation of computational cameras

    In the emerging field of computational imaging, rapid prototyping of new camera concepts becomes increasingly difficult since the signal processing is intertwined with the physical design of a camera. As novel computational cameras capture information other than the traditional two-dimensional information, ground truth data, which can be used to thoroughly benchmark a new system design, is also hard to acquire. We propose to bridge this gap by using simulation. In this article, we present a raytracing framework tailored for the design and evaluation of computational imaging systems. We show that, depending on the application, the image formation on a sensor and phenomena like image noise have to be simulated accurately in order to achieve meaningful results while other aspects, such as photorealistic scene modeling, can be omitted. Therefore, we focus on accurately simulating the mandatory components of computational cameras, namely apertures, lenses, spectral filters and sensors. Besides the simulation of the imaging process, the framework is capable of generating various ground truth data, which can be used to evaluate and optimize the performance of a particular imaging system. Due to its modularity, it is easy to further extend the framework to the needs of other fields of application. We make the source code of our simulation framework publicly available and encourage other researchers to use it to design and evaluate their own camera designs

    Identification of the CysB-regulated gene, hslJ, related to the Escherichia coli novobiocin resistance phenotype

    The cysB gene product is a LysR-type regulatory protein required for expression of the cys regulon. cysB mutants of Escherichia coli and Salmonella, along with being auxotrophs for the cysteine, exhibit increased resistance to the antibiotics novobiocin (Nov) and mecillinam. In this work, by using lambdaplacMu9 insertions creating random lacZ fusions, we identify a gene, hslJ, whose expression appeared to be increased in cysB mutants and needed for Nov resistance. Measurements of the hslJ::IacZ gene fusion expression demonstrated that the hslJ gene is negatively regulated by CysB. In addition we observe the negative autogenous control of HslJ. When the control imposed by CysB is lifted in the cysB mutant, the elevation of Nov resistance can be achieved only in the presence of wild-type hslJ allele. A double cysB hslJ mutant restores the sensitivity to Nov. Overexpression of the wild-type HslJ protein either in a cysB(+) or a cys(B-) background increases the level of Nov resistance indicating that hslJ product is indeed involved in accomplishing this phenotype. The hslJ::OmegaKan allele encodes the C-terminaly truncated mutant protein HslJ Q121Ter which is not functional in achieving the Nov resistance but when overexpressed induces the psp operon. Finally, we found that inactivation of hslJ does not affect the increased resistance to mecillinam in cysB mutants
