    Background: Training towards the goal of improving maximal strength is commonly undertaken; particularly by athletes involved in contact sports, powerlifters, and recreational body builders. Multiple methods of programming exist, with autoregulated (AR) training being a popular topic within the training community. AR training involves day to day fluctuations in volume and/or intensity in order to accommodate the athlete’s performance on a given day. This could potentially allow for greater gains in strength due to fine tuning of the fatigue-fitness interaction. However, scant research exists on AR training, with the vast majority being carried out on individuals during rehabilitation therapy. Aim: To examine whether a load-autoregulated strength training programme is more effective in improving maximal strength in the squat, bench press, and dead lift than a traditionally periodised program, in experienced weight-trained individuals. Methods: Eight healthy, recreationally trained males agreed to participate and completed this study. Each participant completed a traditionally (TD) programme and an AR programme in a randomised, cross-over design with a 2-week wash out period between. Each programme involved baseline one-repetition-maximum testing (1RM) in the barbell squat, bench press, and deadlift followed by eight weeks of training with subsequent 1RM testing. Following warm up, participants completed one set of as many repetitions as possible (AMRAP) at 85% of baseline 1RM, followed by subsequent working sets. 1RM Prediction equations were utilised in the AR training group to dictate load used in the working sets; whereas the TD groups subsequent sets were based on baseline 1RM. Results: The squat, deadlift, and total improved significantly within each programme (all p0.05). Bench press strength improvement was significantly greater in the TD programme (time x programme interaction p<0.05). Conclusions: The present study found no differences in effectiveness of programmes at producing strength gain in the squat, deadlift, or total weight lifted. However the TD programme resulted in a greater improvement in bench press strength compared to AR. Future research would also involve auto-regulated volume, as well as ensuring matched cross over design, and ideally a use of more trained participants

    Weak redshift discretisation in the Local Group of Galaxies?

    We discuss the distribution of radial velocities of galaxies belonging to the Local Group. Two independent samples of galaxies as well as several methods of reduction from the heliocentric to the galactocentric radial velocities are explored. We applied the power spectrum analysis using the Hann function as a weighting method, together with the jackknife error estimation. We performed a detailed analysis of this approach. The distribution of galaxy redshifts seems to be non-random. An excess of galaxies with radial velocities of ∼24km⋅s−1\sim 24 {km} \cdot {s}^{-1} and ∼36km⋅s−1\sim 36 {km} \cdot {s}^{-1} is detected, but the effect is statistically weak. Only one peak for radial velocities of ∼24km⋅s−1\sim 24 {km} \cdot {s}^{-1} seems to be confirmed at the confidence level of 95%.Comment: 23 pages 7 figures Astronomische Nachrichten accepte

    On the investigations of galaxy redshift periodicity

    In this article we present a historical review of study of the redshift periodicity of galaxies, starting from the first works performed in the seventies of the twentieth century until the present day. We discuss the observational data and methods used, showing in which cases the discretization of redshifts was observed. We conclude that galaxy redshift periodisation is an effect which can really exist. We also discussed the redshift discretization in two different structures: the Local Group of galaxies and the Hercules Supercluster. Contrary to the previous studies we consider all galaxies which can be regarded as a structure member disregarding the accuracy of velocity measurements. We applied the power spectrum analysis using the Hann function for weighting, together with the jackknife error estimator.     The similarities between the Social Structures of Accumulation perspective and the Regulation Theory are well known and established in the relevant literature. However, most of the comparisons focus on the founding texts of both approaches. During recent years there appear to be significant developments in both these two theories. This paper studies these developments. In particular, it focuses on the issue of periodisation of capitalism and how both the founding texts and recent developments perform in this field.     SLE on doubly-connected domains and the winding of loop-erased random walks

    Two-dimensional loop-erased random walks (LERWs) are random planar curves whose scaling limit is known to be a Schramm-Loewner evolution SLE_k with parameter k = 2. In this note, some properties of an SLE_k trace on doubly-connected domains are studied and a connection to passive scalar diffusion in a Burgers flow is emphasised. In particular, the endpoint probability distribution and winding probabilities for SLE_2 on a cylinder, starting from one boundary component and stopped when hitting the other, are found. A relation of the result to conditioned one-dimensional Brownian motion is pointed out. Moreover, this result permits to study the statistics of the winding number for SLE_2 with fixed endpoints. A solution for the endpoint distribution of SLE_4 on the cylinder is obtained and a relation to reflected Brownian motion pointed out.Comment: 22 pages, 4 figure

    The Open-Ended Nature of Luke and Acts as Inviting Canonical Actualisation

    Starting from generally accepted narrative insights, this article attempts to justify a canonical reading of Luke and Acts that actualises the Lukan text for contemporary theology and Christian life. It argues that one set of foundations for later actualisation was laid by the original author: that is, the text itself of Luke and Acts has built into it several invitations for its actualisation in later Christians\u27 lives. Among these built-in occasions for canonical actualisation, this article focuses especially on the \u27open-endedness\u27 of Luke and Acts toward the future . It examines three specific openings toward actualisation and application: (1) an open-ended plot of Acts, which invites indefinite continuation of the Pauline proclamation; (2) open-ended extension of biblical promises into the future, and (3) open-ended broadening beyond the initial audience to all possible future generations of \u27us\u27 Christian readers

It has been popularised by successful European coaches and subsequently has been proposed as a model to follow for other sports such as rugby union and tennis in more recent times. Gaelic football is an amateur sport that has similarities to soccer and rugby union. To date no training periodisation model has been proposed for Gaelic football.
