    The structure of the nearby universe traced by theIRAS galaxies

    One of the most important discoveries of the Infrared Astronomical Satellite (IRAS) has been the detection of about 20,000 galaxies with 60 microns fluxes above 0.5 Jy. From the observational point of view, the IRAS galaxies are ideal tracers of density, since they are homogeneously detected over most of the sky, and their fluxes are unaffected by galactic extinction. The nearby universe was mapped by the IRAS galaxies to a distance of approximately 200 h(exp -1) Mpc for the absolute value of b less than 5 deg. The ability to map down to such low galactic latitudes has proven to be particularly imporant, since some of the most important nearby large-scale structures, such as the Great Attractor, the Perseus-Pisces region, and the Shapley concentration, all lie there.     The Role of Interleukin-19 in Interleukin-10 Production by Regulatory Macrophages

    Interleukin-19 (IL-19) is a recently discovered member of the IL-10 family of Class II cytokines. Although it is known to be secreted by monocytes and has been associated with various models of disease, the biological function of IL-19 remains largely unknown. IL-19 does share many important characteristics with IL-10. Because of this, we hypothesized that IL-19 may be regulated in a manner similar to IL-10, and may provide insight into the molecular mechanism of IL-10 regulation. In addition, IL-19 has been reported to increase IL-10 production in monocytes, and we theorized that it may be able to do the same in macrophages. Like IL-10, IL-19 is expressed in regulatory macrophages. Also, IL-19 is itself able to increase IL-10 production in regulatory macrophages, and the mechanism is independent of ERK phosphorylation. This work suggests that IL-19 can play a central role in the anti-inflammatory processes of IL-10

    The IRAS 1.2 Jy Survey: Redshift Data

    We present the redshift data for a survey of galaxies selected from the data base of the Infrared Astronomical Satellite (IRAS). This survey extends the 1.936 Jy sample of Strauss et al. (1992) from a flux limit of 1.936 Jy at 60 microns to 1.2 Jy. The survey extension consists of 3920 sources in the flux interval 1.2 - 1.936 Jy, of which 2663 are galaxies with measured redshifts. Fourteen objects (0.52%) do not have redshifts. The survey covers 87.6% of the sky. The data for the complete 1.2 Jy survey (the data presented here in addition to that of Strauss \etal 1992) may be obtained in a machine-readable form from the National Space Science Data Center and from the anonymous ftp site given above.Comment: uuencoded postscript file.
