This paper reports a study on the casting parameters of pewter based on the Taguchi approach. The quality attributes investigated are shrinkage, hardness and microstructure. The paper also reports a study on minimum section thickness producable by gravitycasting and centrifugal casting of pewter components. Additionally, the paper presents results of a study on finish turning of pewte

Fringe tracking performance monitoring: FINITO at VLTI

Since April 2011, realtime fringe tracking data are recorded simultaneously with data from the VLTI/AMBER interferometric beam combiner. Not only this offers possibilities to post-process AMBER reduced data to obtain more accurate interferometric quantities, it also allows to estimate the performance of the fringe tracking a function of the conditions of seeing, coherence time, flux, etc. First we propose to define fringe tracking performance metrics in the AMBER context, in particular as a function of AMBER's integration time. The main idea is to determine the optimal exposure time for AMBER: short exposures are dominated by readout noise and fringes in long exposures are completely smeared out. Then we present this performance metrics correlated with Paranal local ASM (Ambient Site Monitor) measurements, such as seeing, coherence time or wind speed for example. Finally, we also present some preliminary results of attempts to model and predict fringe tracking performances, using Artificial Neural Networks.Comment: SPIE conference, Optical and Infrared Interferometry II

Performance Monitoring of Control Systems using Likelihood Methods

    Get PDF
Evaluating deterioration in performance of control systems using closed loop operating data is addressed. A framework is proposed in which acceptable performance is expressed as constraints on the closed loop transfer function impulse response coefficients. Using likelihood methods, a hypothesis test is outlined to determine if control deterioration has occurred. The method is applied to a simulation example as well as data from an operational distillation column, and the results are compared to those obtained using minimum variance estimation approaches

Integration of Network Performance Monitoring Data at FTS3

Project Specification: The main goal of this project is to optimize the tcp buffer size to make more efficient the file transfers with FTS3. The library that has been implemented provides a way to calculate this providing a source and a destination. This way, whoever is transferring the files does not have to know anything about the logic of how calculate it. In this project, I have done a library to make easy the access to PerfSONAR’s information between two hosts, calculating the optimized tcp buffer size and thereby to making more efficient the transfer of files. As part of my work, I have also tested the library to check if it actually improved the transfer throughput with tools as GridFTP and Globus

Encouraging performance monitoring promotes proactive control in children

Monitoring progression towards one’s goals is essential for efficient cognitive control. Immature performance monitoring may contribute to suboptimal cognitive control engagement in childhood, potentially explaining why children engage control reactively even when proactive control would be more effective. The present study investigated whether encouraging children to actively monitor their performance results in more mature control engagement. EEG data were collected while children and adults performed a flanker task in three conditions in which they were provided no feedback, standard feedback, or were asked to estimate their own feedback. Both age groups accurately estimated their own feedback. Critically, feedback estimation promoted online performance monitoring and proactive engagement of attention and inhibition during the flanker period in children. These findings indicate that proactive control engagement in childhood can be effectively supported by encouraging performance monitoring

Performance Measurement in State Economic Development Agencies: Lessons and Next Steps for GDITT

    Get PDF
The purpose of this project was to develop the basis for a comprehensive performance monitoring system for the Department of Industry, Trade and Tourism. This performance monitoring system involved the development of performance measures as well as methods and processes for the collection, maintenance and reporting of the related data. As a result of the work completed for this project, GDITT has a workable set of performance measures for its major divisions: Economic Development, Film, Video and Music, International Trade, and Tourism. Performance monitoring at the task and the response level

How errors and confl ict are processed in the human brain, has been extensively investigated over the last decades. In this review, we argue that error research has mainly focused on one type of errors, namely errors at the response level. Furthermore, research on conflict and errors has primarily used a very restricted set of experimental paradigms, raising the question as to whether the results from this research can be generalized to other forms of errors and confl ict. We thus argue to approach errors and confl ict from a broader perspective
