Digital Preservation Services : State of the Art Analysis
Research report funded by the DC-NET project.An overview of the state of the art in service provision for digital preservation and curation. Its focus is on the areas where bridging the gaps is needed between e-Infrastructures and efficient and forward-looking digital preservation services. Abmash: Mashing Up Legacy Web Applications by Automated Imitation of Human Actions
Many business web-based applications do not offer applications programming
interfaces (APIs) to enable other applications to access their data and
functions in a programmatic manner. This makes their composition difficult (for
instance to synchronize data between two applications). To address this
challenge, this paper presents Abmash, an approach to facilitate the
integration of such legacy web applications by automatically imitating human
interactions with them. By automatically interacting with the graphical user
interface (GUI) of web applications, the system supports all forms of
integrations including bi-directional interactions and is able to interact with
AJAX-based applications. Furthermore, the integration programs are easy to
write since they deal with end-user, visual user-interface elements. The

Trusted Launch of Virtual Machine Instances in Public IaaS Environments
Cloud computing and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) are emerging
and promising technologies, however their adoption is hampered by data security
concerns. At the same time, Trusted Computing (TC) is experiencing an increasing
interest as a security mechanism for IaaS. In this paper we present a protocol
to ensure the launch of a virtual machine (VM) instance on a trusted remote
compute host. Relying on Trusted Platform Module operations such as binding
and sealing to provide integrity guarantees for clients that require a trusted VM
launch, we have designed a trusted launch protocol for VM instances in public IaaS
environments. We also present a proof-of-concept implementation of the protocol
based on OpenStack, an open-source IaaS platform. The results provide a basis
for the use of TC mechanisms within IaaS platforms and pave the way for a wider
applicability of TC to IaaS security
Grasp Stability Assessment Through Attention-Guided Cross-Modality Fusion and Transfer Learning
Extensive research has been conducted on assessing grasp stability, a crucial
prerequisite for achieving optimal grasping strategies, including the minimum
force grasping policy. However, existing works employ basic feature-level
fusion techniques to combine visual and tactile modalities, resulting in the
inadequate utilization of complementary information and the inability to model
interactions between unimodal features. This work proposes an attention-guided
cross-modality fusion architecture to comprehensively integrate visual and
tactile features. This model mainly comprises convolutional neural networks
(CNNs), self-attention, and cross-attention mechanisms. In addition, most
existing methods collect datasets from real-world systems, which is
time-consuming and high-cost, and the datasets collected are comparatively
limited in size. This work establishes a robotic grasping system through
physics simulation to collect a multimodal dataset. To address the sim-to-real
transfer gap, we propose a migration strategy encompassing domain randomization
and domain adaptation techniques. The experimental results demonstrate that the
proposed fusion framework achieves markedly enhanced prediction performance
(approximately 10%) compared to other baselines. Moreover, our findings suggest
that the trained model can be reliably transferred to real robotic systems,
indicating its potential to address real-world challenges.Comment: Accepted by IROS 202
Cloud migration patterns: a multi-cloud service architecture perspective
Many organizations migrate their on-premise software systems to the cloud. However, current coarse-grained cloud migration solutions have made a transparent migration of on-premise applications to the cloud a difficult, sometimes trial-and-error based endeavor. This paper suggests a catalogue of fine-grained service-based cloud architecture migration patterns that target multi-cloud settings and are specified with architectural notations. The proposed migration patterns are based on empirical evi-dence from a number of migration projects, best practices for cloud architectures and a systematic literature review of existing research. The pattern catalogue allows an or-ganization to (1) select appropriate architecture migration patterns based on their ob-jectives, (2) compose them to define a migration plan, and (3) extend them based on the identification of new patterns in new contexts
