On general systems with network-enhanced complexities
In recent years, the study of networked control systems (NCSs) has gradually become an active research area due to the advantages of using networked media in many aspects such as the ease of maintenance and installation, the large flexibility and the low cost. It is well known that the devices in networks are mutually connected via communication cables that are of limited capacity. Therefore, some network-induced phenomena have inevitably emerged in the areas of signal processing and control engineering. These phenomena include, but are not limited to, network-induced communication delays, missing data, signal quantization, saturations, and channel fading. It is of great importance to understand how these phenomena influence the closed-loop stability and performance properties

Filtering for uncertain 2-D discrete systems with state delays
This is the post print version of the article. The official published version can be obtained from the link below - Copyright 2007 Elsevier Ltd.This paper is concerned with the problem of robust H∞ filtering for two-dimensional (2-D) discrete systems with time-delays in states. The 2-D systems under consideration are described in terms of the well-known Fornasini–Marchesini local state-space (FMLSS) models with time-delays. Our attention is focused on the design of a full-order filter such that the filtering error system is guaranteed to be asymptotically stable with a prescribed H∞ disturbance attenuation performance. Sufficient conditions for the existence of desired filters are established by using a linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach, and the corresponding filter design problem is then cast into a convex optimization problem that can be efficiently solved by resorting to some standard numerical software. Furthermore, the obtained results are extended to more general cases where the system matrices contain either polytopic or norm-bounded parameter uncertainties. A simulation example is provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed design method. This work was partially supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (60504008), Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University of China and the Postdoctoral Science Foundation of China (20060390231)

The delayed sensor measurement is assumed to be a linear function of a stochastic variable that satisfies the Bernoulli random binary distribution law. An upper bound for the actual covariance of the uncertain stochastic parameter system is derived and used for estimation variance constraints. Such an upper bound is then minimized over the filter parameters for all stochastic sensor delays and admissible deterministic uncertainties. It is shown that the desired filter can be obtained in terms of solutions to two discrete Riccati difference equations of a form suitable for recursive computation in online applications. An illustrative example is presented to show the applicability of the proposed method
Robust H∞ filtering for markovian jump systems with randomly occurring nonlinearities and sensor saturation: The finite-horizon case
This article is posted with the permission of IEEE - Copyright @ 2011 IEEEThis paper addresses the robust H∞ filtering problem for a class of discrete time-varying Markovian jump systems with randomly occurring nonlinearities and sensor saturation. Two kinds of transition probability matrices for the Markovian process are considered, namely, the one with polytopic uncertainties and the one with partially unknown entries. The nonlinear disturbances are assumed to occur randomly according to stochastic variables satisfying the Bernoulli distributions. The main purpose of this paper is to design a robust filter, over a given finite-horizon, such that the H∞ disturbance attenuation level is guaranteed for the time-varying Markovian jump systems in the presence of both the randomly occurring nonlinearities and the sensor saturation. Sufficient conditions are established for the existence of the desired filter satisfying the H∞ performance constraint in terms of a set of recursive linear matrix inequalities. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed filter design scheme. This work was supported in part by the National Natural Science Foundation

The missing-measurement phenomenon is assumed to occur in a random way, and the missing probability is time-varying with securable upper and lower bounds that can be measured in real time. The multiplicative noise is a state-dependent scalar Gaussian white-noise sequence with known variance. The addressed gain-scheduled filtering problem is concerned with the design of a filter such that, for the admissible random missing measurements, nonlinear parameters, and external noise disturbances, the error dynamics is exponentially mean-square stable. The desired filter is equipped with time-varying gains based primarily on the time-varying missing probability and is therefore less conservative than the traditional filter with fixed gains. It is shown that the filter parameters can be derived in terms of the measurable probability via the semidefinite program method. This work was supported in part by the Leverhulme Trust of the U.K., the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) of the U.K. under Grant GR/S27658/01, the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grants 61028008, 61074016 and 60974030, the Shanghai Natural

All the system parameters are time-varying and the uncertainty enters into the state matrix. The measurement missing phenomenon occurs in a random way, and the missing probability for each sensor is governed by an individual random variable satisfying a certain probabilistic distribution in the interval . The stochastic nonlinearities under consideration here are described by statistical means which can cover several classes of well-studied nonlinearities. Sufficient conditions are derived for a finite-horizon filter to satisfy both the estimation error variance constraints and the prescribed H ∞ performance requirement. These conditions are expressed in terms of the feasibility of a series of recursive linear matrix inequalities (RLMIs). By choosing to view this document, you agree to all provisions of the copyright laws protecting it.The mixed H2/H∞ filtering problem for uncertain linear continuous-time systems with regional pole assignment is considered. The purpose of the problem is to design an uncertainty-independent filter such that, for all admissible parameter uncertainties, the following filtering requirements are simultaneously satisfied: 1) the filtering process is asymptotically stable; 2) the poles of the filtering matrix are located inside a prescribed region that compasses the vertical strips, horizontal strips, disks, or conic sectors; 3) both the H2 norm and the H∞ norm on the respective transfer functions are not more than the specified upper bound constraints. We establish a general framework to solve the addressed multiobjective filtering problem completely. In particular, we derive necessary and sufficient conditions for the solvability of the problem in terms of a set of feasible linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). An illustrative example is given to illustrate the design procedures and performances of the proposed method

By choosing to view this document, you agree to all provisions of the copyright laws protecting it.In this paper, we are concerned with a new control problem for uncertain discrete-time stochastic systems with missing measurements. The parameter uncertainties are allowed to be norm-bounded and enter into the state matrix. The system measurements may be unavailable (i.e., missing data) at any sample time, and the probability of the occurrence of missing data is assumed to be known. The purpose of this problem is to design an output feedback controller such that, for all admissible parameter uncertainties and all possible incomplete observations, the system state of the closed-loop system is mean square bounded, and the steady-state variance of each state is not more than the individual prescribed upper bound. We show that the addressed problem can be solved by means of algebraic matrix inequalities. The explicit expression of the desired robust controllers is derived in terms of some free parameters, which may be exploited to achieve further performance requirements. An illustrative numerical example is provided to demonstrate the usefulness and flexibility of the proposed design approach
Robust H∞ filtering for discrete nonlinear stochastic systems with time-varying delay
This is the postprint version of the article. The official published version can be accessed from the link below - © 2007 Elsevier IncIn this paper, we are concerned with the robust H∞ filtering problem for a class of nonlinear discrete time-delay stochastic systems. The system under study involves parameter uncertainties, stochastic disturbances, time-varying delays and sector-like nonlinearities. The problem addressed is the design of a full-order filter such that, for all admissible uncertainties, nonlinearities and time delays, the dynamics of the filtering error is constrained to be robustly asymptotically stable in the mean square, and a prescribed H∞ disturbance rejection attenuation level is also guaranteed. By using the Lyapunov stability theory and some new techniques, sufficient conditions are first established to ensure the existence of the desired filtering parameters. These conditions are dependent on the lower and upper bounds of the time-varying delays. Then, the explicit expression of the desired filter gains is described in terms of the solution to a linear matrix inequality (LMI). Finally, a numerical example is exploited to show the usefulness of the results derived. This work was supported in part by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) of the UK under Grant GR/S27658/01, the Nuffield Foundation of the UK under Grant NAL/00630/G, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (60774073 and 10471119), the NSF of Jiangsu Province of China (BK2007075 and BK2006064), the Natural Science Foundation of Jiangsu Education Committee of China under Grant 06KJD110206, and the Scientific Innovation Fund of Yangzhou University of China under Grant 2006CXJ002
