Optimizing Pilot Overhead for Ultra-Reliable Short-Packet Transmission
In this paper we optimize the pilot overhead for ultra-reliable short-packet
transmission and investigate the dependence of this overhead on packet size and
error probability. In particular, we consider a point-to-point communication in
which one sensor sends messages to a central node, or base-station, over AWGN
with Rayleigh fading channel. We formalize the optimization in terms of
approximate achievable rates at a given block length, pilot length, and error
probability. This leads to more accurate pilot overhead optimization.
Simulation results show that it is important to take into account the packet
size and the error probability when optimizing the pilot overhead.Comment: To be published on IEEE ICC 2017 Communication Theory Symposiu
Pairwise Check Decoding for LDPC Coded Two-Way Relay Block Fading Channels
Partial decoding has the potential to achieve a larger capacity region than
full decoding in two-way relay (TWR) channels. Existing partial decoding
realizations are however designed for Gaussian channels and with a static
physical layer network coding (PLNC). In this paper, we propose a new solution
for joint network coding and channel decoding at the relay, called pairwise
check decoding (PCD), for low-density parity-check (LDPC) coded TWR system over
block fading channels. The main idea is to form a check relationship table
(check-relation-tab) for the superimposed LDPC coded packet pair in the
multiple access (MA) phase in conjunction with an adaptive PLNC mapping in the
broadcast (BC) phase. Using PCD, we then present a partial decoding method,
two-stage closest-neighbor clustering with PCD (TS-CNC-PCD), with the aim of
minimizing the worst pairwise error probability. Moreover, we propose the
minimum correlation optimization (MCO) for selecting the better
check-relation-tabs. Simulation results confirm that the proposed TS-CNC-PCD
offers a sizable gain over the conventional XOR with belief propagation (BP) in
fading channels.Comment: to appear in IEEE Trans. on Communications, 201
Relay-assisted Multiple Access with Full-duplex Multi-Packet Reception
The effect of full-duplex cooperative relaying in a random access multiuser
network is investigated here. First, we model the self-interference incurred
due to full-duplex operation, assuming multi-packet reception capabilities for
both the relay and the destination node. Traffic at the source nodes is
considered saturated and the cooperative relay, which does not have packets of
its own, stores a source packet that it receives successfully in its queue when
the transmission to the destination has failed. We obtain analytical
expressions for key performance metrics at the relay, such as arrival and
service rates, stability conditions, and average queue length, as functions of
the transmission probabilities, the self interference coefficient, and the
links' outage probabilities. Furthermore, we study the impact of the relay node
and the self-interference coefficient on the per-user and aggregate throughput,
and the average delay per packet. We show that perfect self-interference
cancelation plays a crucial role when the SINR threshold is small, since it may
result to worse performance in throughput and delay comparing with the
half-duplex case. This is because perfect self-interference cancelation can
cause an unstable queue at the relay under some conditions.Comment: Accepted for publication in the IEEE Transactions on Wireless
