Service-Oriented Multigranular Optical Network Architecture for Clouds
This paper presents a novel service-oriented network architecture to bridge the informational gap between user applications and optical networks providing technology-agnostic multigranular optical network services for clouds. A mediation layer (service plane) between user applications and network control is proposed to facilitate a mapping process between user application requests and the network services. At the network level, a multigranular optical network (MGON) is proposed and implemented to support dynamic wavelength and subwavelength granularities with different transport formats [optical burst switched (OBS), optical burst transport (OBT)], reservation protocols (one-way, two-way), and different quality-of-service (QoS) levels per service type. The service-oriented multigranular optical network has been designed, implemented, and demonstrated on an experimental testbed. The testbed consists of service and network resource provisioning, service abstraction, and network resource virtualization. The service-to-network interoperation is provided by means of a gateway that maps service requests to technology-specific parameters and a common signaling channel for both service and network resource provisioning
Proxy dynamic delegation in grid gateway
Nowadays one of the main obstacles the research comes up against is the
difficulty in accessing the required computational resources. Grid is able to
offer the user a wide set of resources, even if they are often too hard to
exploit for non expert end user. Use simplification has today become a common
practice in the access and utilization of Cloud, Grid, and data center
resources. With the launch of L-GRID gateway, we introduced a new way to deal
with Grid portals. L-GRID is an extremely light portal developed in order to
access the EGI Grid infrastructure via Web, allowing users to submit their jobs
from whatever Web browser in a few minutes, without any knowledge about the
underlying Grid infrastructure.Comment: 6 page

Next-Generation EU DataGrid Data Management Services
We describe the architecture and initial implementation of the
next-generation of Grid Data Management Middleware in the EU DataGrid (EDG)
project.
The new architecture stems out of our experience and the users requirements
gathered during the two years of running our initial set of Grid Data
Management Services. All of our new services are based on the Web Service
technology paradigm, very much in line with the emerging Open Grid Services
Architecture (OGSA). We have modularized our components and invested a great
amount of effort towards a secure, extensible and robust service, starting from
the design but also using a streamlined build and testing framework.
Our service components are: Replica Location Service, Replica Metadata
Service, Replica Optimization Service, Replica Subscription and high-level
replica management. The service security infrastructure is fully GSI-enabled,
hence compatible with the existing Globus Toolkit 2-based services; moreover,
it allows for fine-grained authorization mechanisms that can be adjusted
depending on the service semantics.Comment: Talk from the 2003 Computing in High Energy and Nuclear Physics

Wireless communication, identification and sensing technologies enabling integrated logistics: a study in the harbor environment
In the last decade, integrated logistics has become an important challenge in
the development of wireless communication, identification and sensing
technology, due to the growing complexity of logistics processes and the
increasing demand for adapting systems to new requirements. The advancement of
wireless technology provides a wide range of options for the maritime container
terminals. Electronic devices employed in container terminals reduce the manual
effort, facilitating timely information flow and enhancing control and quality
of service and decision made. In this paper, we examine the technology that can
be used to support integration in harbor's logistics. In the literature, most
systems have been developed to address specific needs of particular harbors,
but a systematic study is missing. The purpose is to provide an overview to the
reader about which technology of integrated logistics can be implemented and
what remains to be addressed in the future
Applying OGC sensor web enablement to ocean observing systems
The complexity of marine installations
for ocean observing systems has grown significantly in
recent years. In a network consisting of tens, hundreds
or thousands of marine instruments, manual
configuration and integration becomes very
challenging. Simplifying the integration process in
existing or newly established observing systems would
benefit system operators and is important for the
broader application of different sensors. This article
presents an approach for the automatic configuration
and integration of sensors into an interoperable
Sensor Web infrastructure. First, the sensor
communication model, based on OGC's SensorML
standard, is utilized. It serves as a generic driver
mechanism since it enables the declarative and
detailed description of a sensor's protocol. Finally, we
present a data acquisition architecture based on the
OGC PUCK protocol that enables storage and
retrieval of the SensorML document from the sensor
itself, and automatic integration of sensors into an
interoperable Sensor Web infrastructure. Our
approach adopts Efficient XML Interchange (EXI) as
alternative serialization form of XML or JSON. It
solves the bandwidth problem of XML and JSON.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

The ATLAS Tile Calorimeter Test Beam Monitoring Program
During 2003 test beam session for ATLAS Tile Calorimeter a monitoring program
has been developed to ease the setup of correct running condition and the
assessment of data quality. The program has been built using the Online
Software services provided by the ATLAS Online Software group. The first part
of this note contains a brief overview of these services followed by the full
description of Tile Calorimeter monitoring program architecture and features.
Performances and future upgrades are discussed in the final part of this note.Comment: 11 pages, 8 figures, ATLAS TILECAL Not
