Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors are Globally Asymptotically Stabilizable with PI Current Control
This note shows that the industry standard desired equilibrium for permanent
magnet synchronous motors (i.e., maximum torque per Ampere) can be globally
asymptotically stabilized with a PI control around the current errors, provided
some viscous friction (possibly small) is present in the rotor dynamics and the
proportional gain of the PI is suitably chosen. Instrumental to establish this
surprising result is the proof that the map from voltages to currents of the
incremental model of the motor satisfies some passivity properties. The
analysis relies on basic Lyapunov theory making the result available to a wide
audience
A Novel Passivity-Based Controller for a Piezoelectric Beam
This paper presents a new passivity property for distributed piezoelectric devices with integrable port-variables. We present two new control methodologies by exploiting the integrability property of the port-variables. The derived controllers have a Proportional-Integral (PI) like structure. Finally, we present the simulation results and an in-depth analysis on the tuning gains explaining their transient and the steady-state behaviors
A geometric description of the set of stabilizing PID controllers
This article developed a new method to described the set of stabilizing PID control. The method is based on D-parameterization with natural description of the set. It was found that the stability crossing surface is a ruled surface that is completely determined by a curve known as discriminant. The discriminant is divided into sectors at the cusps. Corresponding to the sectors, the stability crossing surface is divided into positive and negative patches. A systematic study is conducted to identify the regions with a fixed number of right half-plane characteristic roots. The crossing directions of characteristic roots for positive patches and negative patches are also studied. As a result, a systematic method is developed to identify the regions of PID parameter such that the system is stabilized
