    Pseudo-State Sliding Mode Control of Fractional SISO Nonlinear Systems

    This paper deals with the problem of pseudo-state sliding mode control of fractional SISO nonlinear systems with model inaccuracies. Firstly, a stable fractional sliding mode surface is constructed based on the Routh-Hurwitz conditions for fractional differential equations. Secondly, a sliding mode control law is designed using the theory of Mittag-Leffler stability. Further, we utilize the control methodology to synchronize two fractional chaotic systems, which serves as an example of verifying the viability and effectiveness of the proposed technique

    Considers the synthesis of effective control algorithms for a chemical reactor, which is the main one in the production of butyl alcohol. The method based on synergetic approach for transferring the apparatus from one capacity to another (specified) maintaining the required quality of the target component is proposed in order to ensure the stabilization of the concentration of target component at the outlet of the reactor under the conditions of uncertain disturbances affecting to an object. A mathematical model of the process based on a stoichiometric matrix taking into account the physicochemical properties of the process is developed. The control algorithm was synthesized by the method of analytical design of an aggregate controller that provides the necessary property of a control system for a chemical reactor. The mathematical model of the process serves as the basis for the selection of attractors of phase variables. The proposed method for synthesizing a control system based on a synergistic approach has made it possible to better stabilize the temperature regime of the process and the concentration of chemical reagents

    Maximum power extraction from wind turbines using a fault-tolerant fractional-order nonsingular terminal sliding mode controller

    This work presents a nonlinear control approach to maximise the power extraction of wind energy conversion systems (WECSs) operating below their rated wind speeds. Due to nonlinearities associated with the dynamics of WECSs, the stochastic nature of wind, and the inevitable presence of faults in practice, developing reliable fault-tolerant control strategies to guarantee maximum power production of WECSs has always been considered important. A fault-tolerant fractional-order nonsingular terminal sliding mode control (FNTSMC) strategy to maximize the captured power of wind turbines (WT) subjected to actuator faults is developed. A nonsingular terminal sliding surface is proposed to ensure fast finite-time convergence, whereas the incorporation of fractional calculus in the controller enhances the convergence speed of system states and simultaneously suppresses chattering, resulting in extracted power maximisation by precisely tracking the optimum rotor speed. Closed-loop stability is analysed and validated through the Lyapunov stability criterion. Comparative numerical simulation analysis is carried out on a two-mass WT, and superior power production performance of the proposed method over other methods is demonstrated, both in fault-free and faulty situations

    Cross-talk and interference enhance information capacity of a signaling pathway

    A recurring motif in gene regulatory networks is transcription factors (TFs) that regulate each other, and then bind to overlapping sites on DNA, where they interact and synergistically control transcription of a target gene. Here, we suggest that this motif maximizes information flow in a noisy network. Gene expression is an inherently noisy process due to thermal fluctuations and the small number of molecules involved. A consequence of multiple TFs interacting at overlapping binding-sites is that their binding noise becomes correlated. Using concepts from information theory, we show that in general a signaling pathway transmits more information if 1) noise of one input is correlated with that of the other, 2) input signals are not chosen independently. In the case of TFs, the latter criterion hints at up-stream cross-regulation. We demonstrate these ideas for competing TFs and feed-forward gene regulatory modules, and discuss generalizations to other signaling pathways. Our results challenge the conventional approach of treating biological noise as uncorrelated fluctuations, and present a systematic method for understanding TF cross-regulation networks either from direct measurements of binding noise, or bioinformatic analysis of overlapping binding-sites.Comment: 28 pages, 5 figure

    Fractional multi-loop active disturbance rejection control for a lower knee exoskeleton system

    Rehabilitation Exoskeleton is becoming more and more important in physiotherapists’ routine work. To improve the treatment performance, such as reducing the recovery period and/or monitoring and reacting to unpredictable situations, the rehabilitation manipulators need to help the patients in various physical trainings. A special case of the active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) is applied to govern a proper realisation of basic limb rehabilitation trainings. The experimental study is performed on a model of a flexible joint manipulator, whose behaviour resembles a real exoskeleton rehabilitation device (a one-degree-of-freedom, rigid-link, flexible-joint manipulator). The fractional (FADRC) is an unconventional model-independent approach, acknowledged as an effective controller in the existence of total plant uncertainties, and these uncertainties are inclusive of the total disturbances and unknown dynamics of the plant. In this work, three FADRC schemes are used, the first one using a fractional state observer (FSO), or FADRC1, second one using a fractional proportional-derivative controller (FPD), or FADRC2, and the third one a Multi-loop fractional in PD-loop controller and the observer-loop (Feedforward and Feedback), or FADRC3. The simulated Exoskeleton system is subjected to a noise disturbance and the FADRC3 shows the effectiveness to compensate all these effects and satisfies the desired position when compared with FADRC1 and FADRC2.     CHAOS CONTROL AND SYNCHRONIZATION USING SYNERGETIC CONTROLLER WITH FRACTIONAL AND LINEAR EXTENDED MANIFOLD

    In this manuscript, for the first time, a fractional-order manifold in a synergetic approach using a fractional order controller is introduced. Furtheremore, in the synergetic theory a macro variable is expended into a linear combination of state variables. An aim is to increase the convergence rate as well as time response of the whole closed loop system. Quality of the proposed controller is investigated to control and synchronize a nonlinear chaotic Coullet system in comparison with an integer order manifold synergetic controller. The stability of the proposed controller is proven using the Lyapunov method. In this regard stabilizing control effort is yielded. Simulation result confirm convergence of states towards zero. This is achieved through a control effort with fewer oscillations and lower amplitude of signls which confirm feasibility of the control effort in practice.     Enhancement of Recombinant Protein Production in Transgenic Nicotiana benthamiana Plant Cell Suspension Cultures with Co-Cultivation of Agrobacterium Containing Silencing Suppressors.

    We have previously demonstrated that the inducible plant viral vector (CMViva) in transgenic plant cell cultures can significantly improve the productivity of extracellular functional recombinant human alpha-1-antiryspin (rAAT) compared with either a common plant constitutive promoter (Cauliflower mosaic virus (CaMV) 35S) or a chemically inducible promoter (estrogen receptor-based XVE) system. For a transgenic plant host system, however, viral or transgene-induced post-transcriptional gene silencing (PTGS) has been identified as a host response mechanism that may dramatically reduce the expression of a foreign gene. Previous studies have suggested that viral gene silencing suppressors encoded by a virus can block or interfere with the pathways of transgene-induced PTGS in plant cells. In this study, the capability of nine different viral gene silencing suppressors were evaluated for improving the production of rAAT protein in transgenic plant cell cultures (CMViva, XVE or 35S system) using an Agrobacterium-mediated transient expression co-cultivation process in which transgenic plant cells and recombinant Agrobacterium carrying the viral gene silencing suppressor were grown together in suspension cultures. Through the co-cultivation process, the impacts of gene silencing suppressors on the rAAT production were elucidated, and promising gene silencing suppressors were identified. Furthermore, the combinations of gene silencing suppressors were optimized using design of experiments methodology. The results have shown that in transgenic CMViva cell cultures, the functional rAAT as a percentage of total soluble protein is increased 5.7 fold with the expression of P19, and 17.2 fold with the co-expression of CP, P19 and P24
