Optimizing Single Axis Tracking for Bat Algorithm-based Solar Cell

    Get PDF
Adding the solar tracking control system was an attempt to increase the efficiency of solar panels. The solar tracking control system was a control system that follows the sun position. The purpose of this solar tracking system was to position the cross-section always to face the sun. The Single Axis system in solar tracking was intended to follow the sun’s angle or solar azimuth angle from the east to the west. There needed a control optimization to get the position as desired. Optimization often used artificial intelligence to obtain the automatic best optimization, such as Bat Algorithm (BA). This research compared several methods: without control, using PID control, using PID-Auto control, and using PID-BA control. The simulations showed that the smallest elevation angle deviation was found in PID-BA controller. In conclusion, PID-BA was the best controller in this research. This research could be used as a future reference with other controllers to get the most optimized controller

Adaptive and learning-based formation control of swarm robots

Autonomous aerial and wheeled mobile robots play a major role in tasks such as search and rescue, transportation, monitoring, and inspection. However, these operations are faced with a few open challenges including robust autonomy, and adaptive coordination based on the environment and operating conditions, particularly in swarm robots with limited communication and perception capabilities. Furthermore, the computational complexity increases exponentially with the number of robots in the swarm. This thesis examines two different aspects of the formation control problem. On the one hand, we investigate how formation could be performed by swarm robots with limited communication and perception (e.g., Crazyflie nano quadrotor). On the other hand, we explore human-swarm interaction (HSI) and different shared-control mechanisms between human and swarm robots (e.g., BristleBot) for artistic creation. In particular, we combine bio-inspired (i.e., flocking, foraging) techniques with learning-based control strategies (using artificial neural networks) for adaptive control of multi- robots. We first review how learning-based control and networked dynamical systems can be used to assign distributed and decentralized policies to individual robots such that the desired formation emerges from their collective behavior. We proceed by presenting a novel flocking control for UAV swarm using deep reinforcement learning. We formulate the flocking formation problem as a partially observable Markov decision process (POMDP), and consider a leader-follower configuration, where consensus among all UAVs is used to train a shared control policy, and each UAV performs actions based on the local information it collects. In addition, to avoid collision among UAVs and guarantee flocking and navigation, a reward function is added with the global flocking maintenance, mutual reward, and a collision penalty. We adapt deep deterministic policy gradient (DDPG) with centralized training and decentralized execution to obtain the flocking control policy using actor-critic networks and a global state space matrix. In the context of swarm robotics in arts, we investigate how the formation paradigm can serve as an interaction modality for artists to aesthetically utilize swarms. In particular, we explore particle swarm optimization (PSO) and random walk to control the communication between a team of robots with swarming behavior for musical creation

Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is a heuristic global optimization method, proposed originally by Kennedy and Eberhart in 1995. It is now one of the most commonly used optimization techniques. This survey presented a comprehensive investigation of PSO. On one hand, we provided advances with PSO, including its modifications (including quantum-behaved PSO, bare-bones PSO, chaotic PSO, and fuzzy PSO), population topology (as fully connected, von Neumann, ring, star, random, etc.), hybridization (with genetic algorithm, simulated annealing, Tabu search, artificial immune system, ant colony algorithm, artificial bee colony, differential evolution, harmonic search, and biogeography-based optimization), extensions (to multiobjective, constrained, discrete, and binary optimization), theoretical analysis (parameter selection and tuning, and convergence analysis), and parallel implementation (in multicore, multiprocessor, GPU, and cloud computing forms). On the other hand, we offered a survey on applications of PSO to the following eight fields: electrical and electronic engineering, automation control systems, communication theory, operations research, mechanical engineering, fuel and energy, medicine, chemistry, and biology. It is hoped that this survey would be beneficial for the researchers studying PSO algorithms

Microparticles have the potentials to be used for many medical purposes in-side the human body such as drug delivery and other operations. This paper attempts to provide a thorough comparison between five meta-heuristic search algorithms:  Sparrow Search Algorithm (SSA), Flower Pollination Algorithm (FPA), Slime Mould Algorithm (SMA), Marine Predator Algorithm (MPA), and Multi-Verse Optimizer (MVO). These approaches were used to calculate the PID controller optimal indicators with the application of different functions, including Integral Absolute Error (IAE), Integral of Time Multiplied by Square Error (ITSE), Integral Square Time multiplied square Error (ISTES), Integral Square Error (ISE), Integral of Square Time multiplied by square Error (ISTSE), and Integral of Time multiplied by Absolute Error (ITAE). Every method of controlling was presented in a MATLAB Simulink numerical model, and LABVIEW software was used to run the experimental tests. It is observed that the MPA technique achieves the highest values of settling error for both simulation and experimental results among other control approaches, while the SSA approach reduces the settling error by 50% compared to former experiments. The results indicate that SSA is the best method among all approaches and that ISTES is the best choice of PID for optimizing the controlling parameters

Optimisation of Internal Model Control Performance Indices for Autonomous Vehicle Suspension

Autonomous vehicles (AVs) have grown in popularity and acceptability due to their unique capacity to reduce pollution, road accidents, human error, and traffic congestion. Vehicle suspension is an important component of a car chassis since it affects the performance of vehicle dynamics. As a result, enhancing suspension performance and stability is critical in order to achieve a more pleasant and safer car. Although there are several suspension control methods, they all suffer from fixed gain characteristics that are prone to nonlinearities, disturbances, and the inability to be tuned online. This research provides a comparison of Internal Model Control (IMC) performance metrics for vehicle suspension control. The IMC approach was tuned using the Genetic Algorithm and the Particle Swarm Optimisation algorithms. The performance of each of these schemes was analysed and compared in order to determine the approach with the best performance in terms of AV suspension control. The performance of the system response was compared to that of the traditional IMC. According to the comparison analysis, the optimized IMC systems had lower IAE, ITAE, ISE, rising time, and settling time values than the traditional IMC. Furthermore, there were no overshoots in any of the controllers

New commercial power electronic controllers come to the market almost every day to help improve electronic circuit and system performance and efficiency. In DC–DC switching-mode converters, a simple and elegant hysteretic controller is used to regulate the basic buck, boost and buck–boost converters under slightly different configurations. In AC–DC converters, the input current shaping for power factor correction posts a constraint. But, several brilliant commercial controllers are demonstrated for boost and fly back converters to achieve almost perfect power factor correction. In this paper a comprehensive review of the various advanced optimization techniques used in power electronic controllers is presented

Fractional-order proportional integral derivative (FOPID) controllers are becoming increasingly popular for various industrial applications due to the advantages they can offer. Among these applications, heating and temperature control systems are receiving significant attention, applying FOPID controllers to achieve better performance and robustness, more stability and flexibility, and faster response. Moreover, with several advantages of using FOPID controllers, the improvement in heating systems and temperature control systems is exceptional. Heating systems are characterized by external disturbance, model uncertainty, non-linearity, and control inaccuracy, which directly affect performance. Temperature control systems are used in industry, households, and many types of equipment. In this paper, fractional-order proportional integral derivative controllers are discussed in the context of controlling the temperature in ambulances, induction heating systems, control of bioreactors, and the improvement achieved by temperature control systems. Moreover, a comparison of conventional and FOPID controllers is also highlighted to show the improvement in production, quality, and accuracy that can be achieved by using such controllers. A composite analysis of the use of such controllers, especially for temperature control systems, is presented. In addition, some hidden and unhighlighted points concerning FOPID controllers are investigated thoroughly, including the most relevant publications
