    Personalizable Service Discovery in Pervasive Systems

    Today, telecom providers are facing changing challenges. To stay ahead in the competition and provide market leading offerings, carriers need to enable a global ecosystem of third party independent application developers to deliver converged services. This is the aim of leveraging a open standardsbased service delivery platform. To identify and to cope with those challenges is the main target of the EU funded project IST DAIDALOS II. And a central point to satisfy the changing user needs is the provision of a well working, user friendly and personalized service discovery. This paper describes our work in the project on a middleware in a framework for pervasive service usage. We have designed an architecture for it, that enables full transparency to the user, grants high compatibility and extendability by a modular and pluggable conception and allows for interoperability with most known service discovery protocols. Our Multi-Protocol Service Discovery and the Four Phases Service Filtering concept enabling personalization should allow for the best possible results in service discovery

    An Ontology for Network Services

    Most of the network service specifications are implemented using relational databases or XML schemas. However, those specifications are not flexible and expressive enough to be extended with new service classes, different corporate policies, network configurations and deployment strategies; thus, most of the QoS management operations are implemented as hard-coded software components. This paper presents a novel approach in the specification of IP network services, using F-logic knowledge representation framework, aiming to include, in the same specification, the high-level service requirements, the network model and the necessary operations for the deployment of multiple network services

    Technology advancements have enabled the distribution and sharing of users personal data over several data sources. Each data source is potentially managed by a different organization, which may expose its data as a Web service. Using such Web services, dynamic composition of atomic data items coupled with the context in which the data is accessed may breach sensitive data that may not comply with the users preference at the time of data collection. Thus, providing uniform access policies to such data can lead to privacy problems. Some fairly recent research has focused on providing solutions for dynamic privacy management.     A theory and model for the evolution of software services

    Software services are subject to constant change and variation. To control service development, a service developer needs to know why a change was made, what are its implications and whether the change is complete. Typically, service clients do not perceive the upgraded service immediately. As a consequence, service-based applications may fail on the service client side due to changes carried out during a provider service upgrade. In order to manage changes in a meaningful and effective manner service clients must therefore be considered when service changes are introduced at the service provider's side. Otherwise such changes will most certainly result in severe application disruption. Eliminating spurious results and inconsistencies that may occur due to uncontrolled changes is therefore a necessary condition for the ability of services to evolve gracefully, ensure service stability, and handle variability in their behavior. Towards this goal, this work presents a model and a theoretical framework for the compatible evolution of services based on well-founded theories and techniques from a number of disparate fields.

    Optimal Web Service Selection Using UML Profile

    Enterprises are more conscious of providing quality of services over the web for reasons of economy, reliability, interoperability and flexibility. Enterprise application relies on selection of the most appropriate service from several candidate services with similar capabilities provided by different service providers. The question is, on what basis the system chooses a service among several candidates. This paper proposes a model that makes an automatic selection of best service and detects the variance between the non-functional requirements of the users and service qualifications. In this paper, we describe our approach aimed to detect conflicts between user requirements and the service specifications of the service provider. Our work proposes to detect these conflicts using Ontology and UML profiles to achieve better performance and avoid unpredictable state of the system. We suggest use of UML extensions and domain Ontology to detect NFR conflicts between the client’s requirements and service specifications

    KSNet-Approach to Knowledge Fusion from Distributed Sources

    The rapidity of the decision making process is an important factor in different branches of the human life (business, healthcare, industry, military applications etc.). Since responsible persons make decisions using available knowledge, it is important for knowledge management systems to deliver necessary and timely information. Knowledge logistics is a new direction in the knowledge management addressing this. Technology of knowledge fusion, based on the synergistic use of knowledge from multiple distributed sources, is a basis for these activities. The paper presents an overview of a Knowledge Source Network configuration approach (KSNet-approach) to knowledge fusion, multi-agent architecture and research prototype of the KSNet knowledge fusion system based on this approach
