With the development of new information and communication technologies (ICT), above all computers and the internet, new forms of online commerce have emerged. The gambling industry began using the power of the rapidly developing virtual market by offering its services in online casinos. The phenomenon of online gambling has encouraged researchers to direct their work into various areas, including the characteristics or profile of online gamblers. In light of the data on the growth of the market for online gambling it is evident that, in the relation between the many types of traditional and online gambling, visits to traditional casinos predominate, as do predictions about the development of the internet. We therefore decided to examine the characteristics of gamblers in traditional casinos and to determine what percentage of them also gamble online, as well as to establish their profile. The aim of the research was to determine how their characteristics in respect of the development of the internet and the growth of the market have influenced the subsequent development of traditional and internet casinos. We predict that both types of gambling, each in its own way, will compete for gamblers. For traditional casinos the best solution seems to be opening their own online casinos; online casinos will have to remain abreast of the development of the internet and communication technology.online gambling, online casino, online gambling product

Decentralised gambling applications are a new way for people to gamble online. Decentralised gambling applications are distinguished from traditional online casinos in that players use cryptocurrency as a stake. Also, rather than being stored on a single centralised server, decentralised gambling applications are stored on a cryptocurrency's blockchain. Previous work in the player behaviour tracking literature has examined the spending profiles of gamblers on traditional online casinos. However, similar work has not taken place in the decentralised gambling domain. The profile of gamblers on decentralised gambling applications are therefore unknown. This paper explores 2,232,741 transactions from 24,234 unique addresses to three such applications operating atop the Ethereum cryptocurrency network over 583 days. We present spending profiles across these applications, providing the first detailed summary of spending behaviours in this technologically advanced domain. We find that the typical player spends approximately 110equivalentacrossamedianof6betsinasingleday,althoughheavilyinvolvedbettorsspendapproximately110 equivalent across a median of 6 bets in a single day, although heavily involved bettors spend approximately 100,000 equivalent over a median of 644 bets across 35 days. Our findings suggest that the average decentralised gambling application player spends less than in other online casinos overall, but that the most heavily involved players in this new domain spend substantially more. This study also demonstrates the use of these applications as a research platform, specifically for large scale longitudinal in-vivo data analysis

Performance Measurement in Internet Gaming Industry – Implementing An Effective Balanced Scorecard at An Online Casino

Performance Measurement Systems (PMS) are widely known and used in business practice. In business administration, esp. Controlling, PMS is a steady component in research and education. Over time, a lot of different versions have been developed in order to take the specific requirements of companies and sectors into account. They range from conventional PMS to highly complex, hierarchy-related Controlling Systems. The common goal of all these versions is to improve the planning and management of organizations and processes. According to the literature, the PMS is a standard management tool in many industries all over the world and could be transferred to almost any kind of product or service. In this article, we will investigate how PMS can help to improve the competitiveness of online casinos. So far, there are no articles or case studies published on this specific field of interest. The topic itself is very new and innovative even though the first online casinos have existed for more than ten years. Based on the case study of an online casino, we will show how an effective PMS could be implemented by using the classical Balanced Scorecard (BSC) in order to resolve management planning issues. The authors will demonstrate how this concept can be a “blueprint” for other e-business sectors while also considering the specific challenges, e.g. rapid (technological) development and fierce competition. A Virtual Pandora\u27s Box: What Cyberspace Gambling Prohibition Means to Terrestrial Casino Operators

Recently, there has been increased pressure on the U.S. Congress to act against Internet gambling. While it may be tempting for terrestrial casinos to watch idly as the federal government moves to eliminate a potential competitor, those in the business of gaming must be leery of any federal efforts to halt gambling online. In the final analysis, the same arguments to restrict consumer choice in cyberspace can be easily used against gambling in real casinos-a compelling reason for terrestrial gaming operators to forcefully oppose any federal restrictions on Americans\u27 rights to gamble

A Winning Hand: A Proposal for an International Regulatory Schema with Respect to the Growing Online Gambling Dilemma in the United States

While a multitude of Internet enterprises folded in the 1990s, online gambling websites not only have held strong, but appear to be ready to increase the stakes. No business relating to the Internet currently generates more revenue than online gambling, and that trend does not look like it will change soon. While many Americans desire to participate in this form of cyber-gambling, the current legality of their ability to do so remains vague. For the most part, an American\u27s ability to gamble currently resides under the purview of state law and a hodgepodge of antiquated federal wire acts. The nature of the Internet, however, mandates that any scheme, regulatory or prohibitory, be constructed in the international arena. For various reasons, there have been efforts by members of Congress to create strong prohibitory legislation specifically targeting Internet gambling. The Author analyzes not only whether a domestic prohibition schema is the best model to implement, but also whether such a model could even be truly effective. The Author further shows that an international regulatory model can provide a legitimate method of control while allowing individual countries to maintain discretion over the form of online gambling they allow to their citizens. At the same time, this international regulatory schema would still provide a valid international enforcement net against offenders. Under this regulatory schema, problem gamblers can be protected while still preserving the opportunity for other patrons to get lucky and hit it big
