Distributed, cooperating knowledge-based systems
Some current research in the development and application of distributed, cooperating knowledge-based systems technology is addressed. The focus of the current research is the spacecraft ground operations environment. The underlying hypothesis is that, because of the increasing size, complexity, and cost of planned systems, conventional procedural approaches to the architecture of automated systems will give way to a more comprehensive knowledge-based approach. A hallmark of these future systems will be the integration of multiple knowledge-based agents which understand the operational goals of the system and cooperate with each other and the humans in the loop to attain the goals. The current work includes the development of a reference model for knowledge-base management, the development of a formal model of cooperating knowledge-based agents, the use of testbed for prototyping and evaluating various knowledge-based concepts, and beginning work on the establishment of an object-oriented model of an intelligent end-to-end (spacecraft to user) system. An introductory discussion of these activities is presented, the major concepts and principles being investigated are highlighted, and their potential use in other application domains is indicated
Game Theory Models for the Verification of the Collective Behaviour of Autonomous Cars
The collective of autonomous cars is expected to generate almost optimal
traffic. In this position paper we discuss the multi-agent models and the
verification results of the collective behaviour of autonomous cars. We argue
that non-cooperative autonomous adaptation cannot guarantee optimal behaviour.
The conjecture is that intention aware adaptation with a constraint on
simultaneous decision making has the potential to avoid unwanted behaviour. The
online routing game model is expected to be the basis to formally prove this

Migration control for mobile agents based on passport and visa
Research on mobile agents has attracted much attention as this paradigm has demonstrated great potential for the next-generation e-commerce. Proper solutions to security-related problems become key factors in the successful deployment of mobile agents in e-commerce systems. We propose the use of passport and visa (P/V) for securing mobile agent migration across communities based on the SAFER e-commerce framework. P/V not only serves as up-to-date digital credentials for agent-host authentication, but also provides effective security mechanisms for online communities to control mobile agent migration. Protection for mobile agents, network hosts, and online communities is enhanced using P/V. We discuss the design issues in details and evaluate the implementation of the proposed system
Modelling and Verification of Multiple UAV Mission Using SMV
Model checking has been used to verify the correctness of digital circuits,
security protocols, communication protocols, as they can be modelled by means
of finite state transition model. However, modelling the behaviour of hybrid
systems like UAVs in a Kripke model is challenging. This work is aimed at
capturing the behaviour of an UAV performing cooperative search mission into a
Kripke model, so as to verify it against the temporal properties expressed in
Computation Tree Logic (CTL). SMV model checker is used for the purpose of
model checking
SDL based validation of a node monitoring protocol
Mobile ad hoc network is a wireless, self-configured, infrastructureless
network of mobile nodes. The nodes are highly mobile, which makes the
application running on them face network related problems like node failure,
link failure, network level disconnection, scarcity of resources, buffer
degradation, and intermittent disconnection etc. Node failure and Network fault
are need to be monitored continuously by supervising the network status. Node
monitoring protocol is crucial, so it is required to test the protocol
exhaustively to verify and validate the functionality and accuracy of the
designed protocol. This paper presents a validation model for Node Monitoring
Protocol using Specification and Description Llanguage (SDL) using both Static
Agent (SA) and Mobile Agent (MA). We have verified properties of the Node
Monitoring Protocol (NMP) based on the global states with no exits, deadlock
states or proper termination states using reachability graph. Message Sequence
Chart (MSC) gives an intuitive understanding of the described system behavior

To place FES into a context, a review of some related research directions is presented. This review includes such concepts as systems of systems, cyber-physical systems, ubiquitous
computing, internet of things, and multi-agent systems. Interestingly, the reviewed fields seem to overlap with each other in an increasing number of ways
The AI Bus architecture for distributed knowledge-based systems
The AI Bus architecture is layered, distributed object oriented framework developed to support the requirements of advanced technology programs for an order of magnitude improvement in software costs. The consequent need for highly autonomous computer systems, adaptable to new technology advances over a long lifespan, led to the design of an open architecture and toolbox for building large scale, robust, production quality systems. The AI Bus accommodates a mix of knowledge based and conventional components, running on heterogeneous, distributed real world and testbed environment. The concepts and design is described of the AI Bus architecture and its current implementation status as a Unix C++ library or reusable objects. Each high level semiautonomous agent process consists of a number of knowledge sources together with interagent communication mechanisms based on shared blackboards and message passing acquaintances. Standard interfaces and protocols are followed for combining and validating subsystems. Dynamic probes or demons provide an event driven means for providing active objects with shared access to resources, and each other, while not violating their security
Coordination of Cooperative Autonomous Vehicles Toward safer and more efficient road transportation
While intelligent transportation systems come in many shapes and sizes, arguably the most transformational realization will be the autonomous vehicle. As such vehicles become commercially available in the coming years, first on dedicated roads and under specific conditions, and later on all public roads at all times, a phase transition will occur. Once a sufficient number of autonomous vehicles is deployed, the opportunity for explicit coordination appears. This article treats this challenging network control problem, which lies at the intersection of control theory, signal processing, and wireless communication. We provide an overview of the state of the art, while at the same time highlighting key research directions for the coming decades
