Comparison of Empirical Data from Two Honeynets and a Distributed Honeypot Network
In this paper we present empirical results and speculative analysis based on observations collected over a two month period from studies with two high interaction honeynets, deployed in a corporate and an SME (small to medium enterprise) environment, and a distributed honeypots deployment. All three networks contain a mixture of Windows and Linux hosts. We detail the architecture of the deployment and results of comparing the observations from the three environments. We analyze in detail the times between attacks on different hosts, operating systems, networks or geographical location. Even though results from honeynet deployments are reported often in the literature, this paper provides novel results analyzing traffic from three different types of networks and some initial exploratory models. This research aims to contribute to endeavours in the wider security research community to build methods, grounded on strong empirical work, for assessment of the robustness of computer-based systems in hostile environments
Features and Implementation of Digital Library Software (DLS) among Public and Private Sector University Libraries Located in Punjab, Pakistan
Abstract
Purpose – The purpose of this present paper is to evaluate the features and implementation of the digital library software in university libraries located in Punjab, Pakistan.
The present study aimed to examine the usability of digital Library Software among university libraries in Punjab, Pakistan. The objective of the study was to find out the digital library systems in terms of software implemented and their useful features that would be helpful for library users to select the right software. In order to accomplish the research objectives, a self-reported questionnaire was constructed after reviewing the literature and with the help of experts.
Design/methodology/approach - This study was descriptive research carried out by using the survey design in 2020-2021. The purposive sampling method was adopted to select the participants. Data were collected from digital librarians by using the online Google Form. In this study, HEC recognized universities were selected in which 38 public sectors and 24 private sectors.
Findings – This research revealed interesting results about the implementation and features of the DLS. Male professionals perform better at digital software as compared to female professionals. Finding also depicted that D-space and E-print are heavily used worldwide to build digital storehouses instead of fedora.
Originality/value – This is the first comparative study about features and implementation of DLS in HEC recognized universities in Punjab, Pakistan. This study will allow institutions, universities, and organizational libraries to move from traditional library systems to modern digital library systems due to the useful features reported by the participants. It will help to select a better software system to implement in their libraries.

Towards maintainer script modernization in FOSS distributions
Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) distributions are complex software
systems, made of thousands packages that evolve rapidly, independently, and
without centralized coordination. During packages upgrades, corner case
failures can be encountered and are hard to deal with, especially when they are
due to misbehaving maintainer scripts: executable code snippets used to
finalize package configuration. In this paper we report a software
modernization experience, the process of representing existing legacy systems
in terms of models, applied to FOSS distributions. We present a process to
define meta-models that enable dealing with upgrade failures and help rolling
back from them, taking into account maintainer scripts. The process has been
applied to widely used FOSS distributions and we report about such experiences
Collecting and Analyzing Failure Data of Bluetooth Personal Area Networks
This work presents a failure data analysis campaign on
Bluetooth Personal Area Networks (PANs) conducted on
two kind of heterogeneous testbeds (working for more than
one year). The obtained results reveal how failures distribution
are characterized and suggest how to improve the
dependability of Bluetooth PANs. Specically, we dene the
failure model and we then identify the most effective recovery
actions and masking strategies that can be adopted for
each failure. We then integrate the discovered recovery actions
and masking strategies in our testbeds, improving the
availability and the reliability of 3.64% (up to 36.6%) and
202% (referred to the Mean Time To Failure), respectively
DEPLOYMENT AND USABILITY EVALUATION OF MOBILE ACCESS TO INSTITUTIONAL REPOSITORY
An Institutional Repository is essentially a web application that is capable of
capturing, preserving and disseminating the intellectual output of a University or
research institution in dig ital formats. The advent of the Mobile Web has ushered in
a new wave of mobile devices - with multi-touch facilities and thus there has been a
shift from Web access to Mobile Web access. This has brought about the need to
make web applications accessible via mobile devices. This study investigated the
usability of the core functionalities of an Institutional Repository on various mobile
devices. The work did not try to create a mobile version of the repository but rather
test the existing web application on various mobile platforms. To achieve this, the
core functionalities of the repository were modelled using Unified Modelling
Language (UML). In addition, an Institutional Repository was built and deployed
for Covenant University by leveraging on open source repository software –
EPrints. Furthermore, the core functionalities of the Institutional Repository were
tested on five different mobile devices. Finally, the usability of the Institutional
Repository on the various mobile devices used was evaluated by identifying the
usability attributes; designing a questionnaire based on those attributes and then
analyzing the results with SPSS software. The results showed that overall the
current web version of the repository had a good usability score on the mobile
devices used
Revisão de diferentes implementações para a preservação digital: para uma proposta metodológica de preservação e auditoria de confiança de RI
This work introduces the initial experience of an infrastructure for digital documents preservation in archives or repositories. Prior backgrounds of similar infrastructures are recognized in this work, and among them three successful experiences are described. These experiences are all aimed to connect a digital repository with different software tools able to ensure digital preservation of repository contents according to OAIS ISO 14721 standard (2012). After the description of the three models, we describe a prototype under development in the repositories supported by PREBI-SEDICI (UNLP), which uses the software tools DSpace, Archivematica and ArchivesSpace. In this prototype, DSpace handles the ingest and delivery of digital contents, while Archivematica performs all the required digital preservation activities. This is achieved through a set of microservices applied to a conceptual structure similar to the information package (IP) in its different versions (SIP, AIP, DIP). The resulting structure of the IP includes checksums, original files, logs, transfer documentation and XML metadata. The main purpose of this work is to show the background activities already carried out in institutions around the world, and to start a research project aiming to generate ideas and thoughts in the Latin American context.
