A new LMI-based robust Sliding Mode Control for the uncertain discrete-time systems
© 2014 IEEE. In this paper, a new approach for designing a robust Discrete-time Sliding Mode Control (DSMC) is proposed for the uncertain discrete-time systems. To this end, an LMI approach is used to develop a new framework to design the linear sliding functions which are linear to the state. The LMI approach proposed in this paper is designed to deal with uncertain systems (matched and unmatched). It is wellknown that the finite sampling rate for the discrete-time systems leads to this fact that state move within a bound around the predetermined sliding surface referred to as quasi-sliding mode band. In this paper, this matter will be discussed in a new point of view and an innovative method will be used to obtain the ultimate bound on the system state
Time-delay systems : stability, sliding mode control and state estimation
University of Technology, Sydney. Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology.Time delays and external disturbances are unavoidable in many practical control systems such as robotic manipulators, aircraft, manufacturing and process control systems and it is often a source of instability or oscillation. This thesis is concerned with the stability, sliding mode control and state estimation problems of time-delay systems. Throughout the thesis, the Lyapunov-Krasovskii (L-K) method, in conjunction with the Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) techniques is mainly used for analysis and design.
Firstly, a brief survey on recent developments of the L-K method for stability analysis, discrete-time sliding mode control design and linear functional observer design of time-delay systems, is presented. Then, the problem of exponential stability is addressed for a class of linear discrete-time systems with interval time-varying delay. Some improved delay-dependent stability conditions of linear discrete-time systems with interval time-varying delay are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities.
Secondly, the problem of reachable set bounding, essential information for the control design, is tackled for linear systems with time-varying delay and bounded disturbances. Indeed, minimisation of the reachable set bound can generally result in a controller with a larger gain to achieve better performance for the uncertain dynamical system under control. Based on the L-K method, combined with the delay decomposition approach, sufficient conditions for the existence of ellipsoid-based bounds of reachable sets of a class of linear systems with interval time-varying delay and bounded disturbances, are derived in terms of matrix inequalities. To obtain a smaller bound, a new idea is proposed to minimise the projection distances of the ellipsoids on axes, with respect to various convergence rates, instead of minimising its radius with a single exponential rate. Therefore, the smallest possible bound can be obtained from the intersection of these ellipsoids.
This study also addresses the problem of robust sliding mode control for a class of linear discrete-time systems with time-varying delay and unmatched external disturbances. By using the L-K method, in combination with the delay decomposition technique and the reciprocally convex approach, new LMI-based conditions for the existence of a stable sliding surface are derived. These conditions can deal with the effects of time-varying delay and unmatched external disturbances while guaranteeing that all the state trajectories of the reduced-order system are exponentially convergent to a ball with a minimised radius. Robust discrete-time quasi-sliding mode control scheme is then proposed to drive the state trajectories of the closed-loop system towards the prescribed sliding surface in a finite time and maintain it there after subsequent time.
Finally, the state estimation problem is studied for the challenging case when both the system’s output and input are subject to time delays. By using the information of the multiple delayed output and delayed input, a new minimal order observer is first proposed to estimate a linear state functional of the system. The existence conditions for such an observer are given to guarantee that the estimated state converges exponentially within an Є-bound of the original state. Based on the L-K method, sufficient conditions for Є-convergence of the observer error, are derived in terms of matrix inequalities. Design algorithms are introduced to illustrate the merit of the proposed approach.
From theoretical as well as practical perspectives, the obtained results in this thesis are beneficial to a broad range of applications in robotic manipulators, airport navigation, manufacturing, process control and in networked systems
Robust sliding mode control for discrete stochastic systems with mixed time delays, randomly occurring uncertainties, and randomly occurring nonlinearities
This is the post-print version of the paper. The official published version can be accessed from the link below - Copyright @ 2012 IEEEThis paper investigates the robust sliding mode control (SMC) problem for a class of uncertain nonlinear stochastic systems with mixed time delays. Both the sectorlike nonlinearities and the norm-bounded uncertainties enter into the system in random ways, and such randomly occurring uncertainties and randomly occurring nonlinearities obey certain mutually uncorrelated Bernoulli distributed white noise sequences. The mixed time delays consist of both the discrete and the distributed delays. The time-varying delays are allowed in state. By employing the idea of delay fractioning and constructing a new Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional, sufficient conditions are established to ensure the stability of the system dynamics in the specified sliding surface by solving a certain semidefinite programming problem. A full-state feedback SMC law is designed to guarantee the reaching condition. A simulation example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed SMC scheme. This work was supported in part by the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grants 61028008, 60825303 and 60834003, National 973 Project under Grant 2009CB320600, the Fok Ying Tung Education Fund under Grant 111064, the Special Fund for the Author of National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation of China under Grant 2007B4, the Key Laboratory of Integrated Automation for the Process Industry Northeastern University) from the Ministry of Education of China, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) of the U.K. under Grant GR/S27658/01, the Royal Society of the U.K., and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany

Robust H-infinity sliding mode control for nonlinear stochastic systems with multiple data packet losses
This is the post-print version of this Article. The official published version can be accessed from the link below - Copyright @ 2012 John Wiley & SonsIn this paper, an ∞ sliding mode control (SMC) problem is studied for a class of discrete-time nonlinear stochastic systems with multiple data packet losses. The phenomenon of data packet losses, which is assumed to occur in a random way, is taken into consideration in the process of data transmission through both the state-feedback loop and the measurement output. The probability for the data packet loss for each individual state variable is governed by a corresponding individual random variable satisfying a certain probabilistic distribution over the interval [0 1]. The discrete-time system considered is also subject to norm-bounded parameter uncertainties and external nonlinear disturbances, which enter the system state equation in both matched and unmatched ways. A novel stochastic discrete-time switching function is proposed to facilitate the sliding mode controller design. Sufficient conditions are derived by means of the linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach. It is shown that the system dynamics in the specified sliding surface is exponentially stable in the mean square with a prescribed ∞ noise attenuation level if an LMI with an equality constraint is feasible. A discrete-time SMC controller is designed capable of guaranteeing the discrete-time sliding mode reaching condition of the specified sliding surface with probability 1. Finally, a simulation example is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed method. This work was supported in part by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) of the U.K. under Grant

H ∞ sliding mode observer design for a class of nonlinear discrete time-delay systems: A delay-fractioning approach
Copyright @ 2012 John Wiley & SonsIn this paper, the H ∞ sliding mode observer (SMO) design problem is investigated for a class of nonlinear discrete time-delay systems. The nonlinear descriptions quantify the maximum possible derivations from a linear model, and the system states are allowed to be immeasurable. Attention is focused on the design of a discrete-time SMO such that the asymptotic stability as well as the H ∞ performance requirement of the error dynamics can be guaranteed in the presence of nonlinearities, time delay and external disturbances. Firstly, a discrete-time discontinuous switched term is proposed to make sure that the reaching condition holds. Then, by constructing a new Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional based on the idea of ‘delay fractioning’ and by introducing some appropriate free-weighting matrices, a sufficient condition is established to guarantee the desired performance of the error dynamics in the specified sliding mode surface by solving a minimization problem. Finally, an illustrative example is given to show the effectiveness of the designed SMO design scheme
Modelling and Fast Terminal Sliding Mode Control for Mirror-based Pointing Systems
In this paper, we present a new discrete-time Fast Terminal Sliding Mode
(FTSM) controller for mirror-based pointing systems. We first derive the
decoupled model of those systems and then estimate the parameters using a
nonlinear least-square identification method. Based on the derived model, we
design a FTSM sliding manifold in the continuous domain. We then exploit the
Euler discretization on the designed FTSM sliding surfaces to synthesize a
discrete-time controller. Furthermore, we improve the transient dynamics of the
sliding surface by adding a linear term. Finally, we prove the stability of the
proposed controller based on the Sarpturk reaching condition. Extensive
simulations, followed by comparisons with the Terminal Sliding Mode (TSM) and
Model Predictive Control (MPC) have been carried out to evaluate the
effectiveness of the proposed approach. A comparative study with data obtained
from a real-time experiment was also conducted. The results indicate the
advantage of the proposed method over the other techniques.Comment: In Proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Control,

Analysis of explicit and implicit discrete-time equivalent-control based sliding mode controllers
Different time-discretization methods for equivalent-control based sliding
mode control (ECB-SMC) are presented. A new discrete-time sliding mode control
scheme is proposed for linear time-invariant (LTI) systems. It is error-free in
the discretization of the equivalent part of the control input. Results from
simulations using the various discretized SMC schemes are shown, with and
without perturbations. They illustrate the different behaviours that can be
observed. Stability results for the proposed scheme are derived
Circle grid fractal plate as a turbulent generator for premixed flame: an overview
This review paper focuses to ascertain a new approach in turbulence generation on the structure of premixed flames and external combustion using a fractal grid pattern. This review paper discusses the relationship between fractal pattern and turbulence flow. Many researchers have explored the fractal pattern as a new concept of turbulence generators, but researchers rarely study fractal turbulence generators on the structure premixed flame. The turbulent flow field characteristics have been studied tand investigated in a premixed combustion application. In terms of turbulence intensity, most researchers used fractal grid that can be tailored so that they can design the characteristic needed in premixed flame. This approach makes it extremely difficult to determine the exact turbulent burning velocity on the velocity fluctuation of the flow. The decision to carry out additional research on the effect circle grid fractal plate as a turbulent generator for premixed flame should depends on the blockage ratio and fractal pattern of the grid.
