Continuum limit of the nonlocal p-Laplacian evolution problem on random inhomogeneous graphs
International audienceIn this paper we study numerical approximations of the evolution problem for the nonlocal p-Laplacian operator with homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions on inhomogeneous random conver-gent graph sequences. More precisely, for networks on convergent inhomogeneous random graph sequences (generated first by deterministic and then random node sequences), we establish their continuum limits and provide rate of convergence of solutions for the discrete models to their continuum counterparts as the number of vertices grows. Our bounds reveals the role of the different parameters, and in particular that of p and the geometry/regularity of the data
Limits and consistency of non-local and graph approximations to the Eikonal equation
In this paper, we study a non-local approximation of the time-dependent
(local) Eikonal equation with Dirichlet-type boundary conditions, where the
kernel in the non-local problem is properly scaled. Based on the theory of
viscosity solutions, we prove existence and uniqueness of the viscosity
solutions of both the local and non-local problems, as well as regularity
properties of these solutions in time and space. We then derive error bounds
between the solution to the non-local problem and that of the local one, both
in continuous-time and Backward Euler time discretization. We then turn to
studying continuum limits of non-local problems defined on random weighted
graphs with vertices. In particular, we establish that if the kernel scale
parameter decreases at an appropriate rate as grows, then almost surely,
the solution of the problem on graphs converges uniformly to the viscosity
solution of the local problem as the time step vanishes and the number vertices
grows large
Rates of convergence for regression with the graph Poly-Laplacian
In the (special) smoothing spline problem one considers a variational problem with a quadratic data fidelity penalty and Laplacian regularisation. Higher order regularity can be obtained via replacing the Laplacian regulariser with a poly-Laplacian regulariser. The methodology is readily adapted to graphs and here we consider graph poly-Laplacian regularisation in a fully supervised, non-parametric, noise corrupted, regression problem. In particular, given a dataset {xi}ni=1 and a set of noisy labels {yi}ni=1⊂R we let un:{xi}ni=1→R be the minimiser of an energy which consists of a data fidelity term and an appropriately scaled graph poly-Laplacian term. When yi=g(xi)+ξi, for iid noise ξi, and using the geometric random graph, we identify (with high probability) the rate of convergence of un to g in the large data limit n→∞. Furthermore, our rate, up to logarithms, coincides with the known rate of convergence in the usual smoothing spline model
Nonlocal doubly nonlinear diffusion problems with nonlinear boundary conditions
We study the existence and uniqueness of mild and strong solutions of
nonlocal nonlinear diffusion problems of -Laplacian type with nonlinear
boundary conditions posed in metric random walk spaces. These spaces include,
among others, weighted discrete graphs and with a random walk
induced by a nonsingular kernel. We also study the case of nonlinear dynamical
boundary conditions. The generality of the nonlinearities considered allow us
to cover the nonlocal counterparts of a large scope of local diffusion
problems: Stefan problems, Hele-Shaw problems, diffusion in porous media
problems, obstacle problems, and more. Nonlinear semigroup theory is the basis
for this study
Nonlocal p-Laplacian evolution problems on graphs
Abstract The non-local p-Laplacian evolution equation, governed by given kernel, has various applications to model diffusion phenomena, in particular in signal and image processing. In practice, such an evolution equation is implemented in discrete form (in space and time) as a numerical approximation to a continuous problem, where the kernel is replaced by an adjacency matrix of graph. The natural question that arises is to understand the structure of solutions to the discrete problem, and study their continuous limit. This is the goal pursued in this work. Combining tools from graph theory and non-linear evolution equations , we give a rigorous interpretation to the continuous limit of the discrete p-Laplacian on graphs. More specifically , we consider a sequence of deterministic weighted graphs converging to a so-called graphon. The continuous p-Laplacian evolution equation is then discretized on this graph sequence both in space and time. We therefore prove that the solutions of the sequence of discrete problems converge to the solution of the continuous evolution problem governed by the graphon, when the number of graph ver-tices grows to infinity. We exhibit the corresponding convergence rate
Nonlocal p-Laplacian evolution problems on graphs
International audienceIn this paper we study numerical approximations of the evolution problem for the nonlocal p-Laplacian with homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions. First, we derive a bound on the distance between two continuous-in-time trajectories defined by two different evolution systems (i.e. with different kernels and initial data). We then provide a similar bound for the case when one of the trajectories is discrete-in-time and the other is continuous. In turn, these results allow us to establish error estimates of the discretized p-Laplacian problem on graphs. More precisely, for networks on convergent graph sequences (simple and weighted graphs), we prove convergence and provide rate of convergence of solutions for the discrete models to the solution of the continuous problem as the number of vertices grows. We finally touch on the limit as p → ∞ in these approximations and get uniform convergence results
Gradient flows in random walk spaces
