President\u27s Column A New Year: New Challenges, Abundant Opportunities Vol. 55, No. 4
Greetings my fellow jurists and Court Review readers,
I am overjoyed to begin my term serving as the 60th president of the American Judges Association. It is the rich history of this Association that humbles and makes me feel honored to lead at this challenging juncture in our journey. I view it as a privilege to be given the opportunity and responsibility to protect and preserve our legacy. I stand on the shoulders of 59 other AJA presidents who have guided this Association thus far, five of which hail from my great state of Louisiana: Judge G. Randall Whitmeyer, Judge Oliver S. Delery, Judge James F. McKay III, Judge Toni M. Higginbotham, and Judge John Conery. Realizing that the success of the American Judges Association is the result of the tireless efforts of so many others, I salute them for their tenacity and leadership. Their leadership is a model for us all. Our accomplishments of yesterday can only be sustained by the vigilance of today; therefore, we must all labor incessantly to sustain our beloved AJA

Great teaching, inspired learning
This paper looks at learning in the 21st century and the new challenges and opportunities it presents. New technologies are breaking down classroom walls and creating global virtual classrooms. As technology improves and new discoveries are made, our students will have unprecedented access to information and they will be judged by how they use what they know.
Students starting school this year will probably be working until the 2070s. We know that the rate of change in technology and in society is so fast that if we are going to prepare young people to live, work and be successful in the 21st century, they will need the ability to think both creatively and critically, problem solve and work collaboratively
Academic Support at Leeds Metropolitan Library
Leeds Metropolitanâs Library Academic Support Stream is made up of Academic Librarians and Information Services Librarians who provide academic support to the universityâs six faculties. The team use innovative methods of working together to engage students and enhance their experience. The team only formed a year ago so this is a good time to reflect on our success so far. The library service at Leeds Met is continually developing and offers new challenges and opportunities for staff providing library academic support. Innovation has even become part of our new name â âLibraries and Learning Innovationâ. We still offer all the traditions types of library academic support, but there is an increasing emphasis on finding innovative ways of supporting students and publicising what we can offer. This year the Library Academic Support Stream won a University Attitude Character and Talents Award for Future Focus
How Is That Going to Work?: Part II â Acqusitions Challenges and Opportunities in a Shared ILS
Building on a presentation given at the 2013 Charleston Conference, this article continues the discussion about acquisitions policies, workflows, and consortial collaboration in a nextâgeneration shared ILS. The Orbis Cascade Alliance is a consortium of 37 public and private academic institutions in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. In January 2013, the Alliance began a twoâyear process of migrating all 37 institutions (in 4 cohorts, with a new cohort going live every 6 months) to Ex Librisâs Alma and Primo in order to realize efficiencies and increase collaboration within the consortium. The authors, who represent institutions in the first and third cohorts, offer perspectives on new consortial structures stemming from changing workflows, policy issues to consider from a consortial viewpoint, challenges and opportunities for the new system, partnering with vendors, and ongoing considerations for largeâscale cooperative collection development and assessment
