Robustness analysis of discrete predictor-based controllers for input-delay systems

In this article, robustness to model uncertainties are analysed in the context of discrete predictor-based state-feedback controllers for discrete-time input-delay systems with time-varying delay, in an LMI framework. The goal is comparing robustness of predictor-based strategies with respect to other (sub)optimal state feedback ones. A numerical example illustrates that improvements in tolerance to modelling errors can be achieved by using the predictor framework. The authors are grateful for grant nos. Robust H-infinity Output Feedback Control for Nonlinear Systems

The study of robust nonlinear control has attracted increasing interest over the last few years. Progress has been aided by the recent extension of the linear quadratic results which links the theories of L2 gain control (nonlinear H∞ control), differential games, and stochastic risk sensitive control. In fact, significant advances in both linear and nonlinear H∞ theory have drawn upon results from the theories of differential games and stochastic risk sensitive control. Despite these advances in H∞ control theory, practical controllers for complex nonlinear systems which operate on basic H∞ principles have not been realized to date. Issues of importance to the design of a practical controller include (i) computational complexity, (ii) operation solely with observable quantities, and (iii) implementability in finite time. In this dissertation we offer a design procedure which yields, practical and implementable H∞ controllers and meets the, mandate of the above issues for general nonlinear systems. In particular, we develop a well defined and realistically implementable procedure for designing robust output feedback controllers for a large class of nonlinear systems. We analyze this problem in both continuous time and discrete time settings. The robust output feedback control problem is formulated as a dynamic game problem. The solution to the game is obtained by transforming the problem into an equivalent full state feedback problem where the new state is called the information state. The information state method provides a separated control policy which involves the solution of a forward and a backward dynamic programming equation. Obtained from the forward equation is the information state, and from the backward equation is the value function of the game and the optimal information state control. The computer implementation of the information state controller is addressed and several approximations are introduced. The approximations are designed to decrease the online computational complexity of controller

Robust controller design for input-delayed systems using predictive feedback and an uncertainty estimator

[EN] This paper deals with the problem of stabilizing a class of input-delayed systems with (possibly) nonlinear uncertainties by using explicit delay compensation. It is well known that plain predictive schemes lack robustness with respect to uncertain model parameters. In this work, an uncertainty estimator is derived for input-delay systems and combined with a modified state predictor, which uses current available information of the estimated uncertainties. Furthermore, based on Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals, a computable criterion to check robust stability of the closed-loop is developed and cast into a minimization problem constrained to an LMI. Additionally, for a given input delay, an iterative-LMI algorithm is proposed to design stabilizing tuning parameters. The main results are illustrated and validated using a numerical example with a second-order dynamic system. This work was partially supported by projects PROMETEOII/2013/004, Conselleria d Educació, Generalitat Valenciana, and TIN2014-56158-C4-4-P-AR, Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad, Spain.Sanz Diaz, R.; García Gil, PJ.; Albertos Pérez, P.; Zhong, Q. We consider a system of transmission of the Schrodinger equation with Neumann feedback control that contains a time-varying delay term and that acts on the exterior boundary. Using a suitable energy function and a suitable Lyapunov functionnal, we prove under appropriate assumptions that the solutions decay exponentially. Static output-feedback stabilization of discrete-time Markovian jump linear systems: a system augmentation approach

    No full text
This paper studies the static output-feedback (SOF) stabilization problem for discrete-time Markovian jump systems from a novel perspective. The closed-loop system is represented in a system augmentation form, in which input and gain-output matrices are separated. By virtue of the system augmentation, a novel necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of desired controllers is established in terms of a set of nonlinear matrix inequalities, which possess a monotonic structure for a linearized computation, and a convergent iteration algorithm is given to solve such inequalities. In addition, a special property of the feasible solutions enables one to further improve the solvability via a simple D-K type optimization on the initial values. An extension to mode-independent SOF stabilization is provided as well. Compared with some existing approaches to SOF synthesis, the proposed one has several advantages that make it specific for Markovian jump systems. The effectiveness and merit of the theoretical results are shown through some numerical example

The main objective of this special issue is to summarise recent advances in H∞ control and filtering for nonlinear systems, including time-delay, hybrid and stochastic systems. The published papers provide new ideas and approaches, clearly indicating the advances made in problem statements, methodologies or applications with respect to the existing results. The special issue also includes papers focusing on advanced and non-traditional methods and presenting considerable novelties in theoretical background or experimental setup. Some papers present applications to newly emerging fields, such as network-based control and estimation
