    Get PDF
This paper presents a new strategy for the control of large displacements in structures under earthquake excitation. Firstly, an improved fractional order proportional-derivative (FOPD) controller is proposed. Secondly, a decentralized strategy is designed by adding a regulator and fault self-regulation to a standard decentralized controller. A new control architecture is obtained by combining the improved FOPD and the decentralized strategy. The parameters of the control system are tuned using an intelligent optimization algorithm. Simulation results demonstrate the performance and reliability of the proposed method. The work was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (No. 11971032).info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Synthesis of Hybrid Fuzzy Logic Law for Stable Control of Magnetic Levitation System

    Get PDF
In this paper, we present a method to design a hybrid fuzzy logic controller (FLC) for a magnetic levitation system (MLS) based on the linear feedforward control method combined with FLC. MLS has many applications in industry, transportation, but the system is strongly nonlinear and unstable at equilibrium. The fast response linear control law ensures that the ball is kept at the desired point, but does not remain stable at that point in the presence of noise or deviation from the desired position. The controller that combines linear feedforward control and FLC is designed to ensure ball stability and increase the system's fast-response when deviating from equilibrium and improve control quality. Simulation results in the presence of noise show that the proposed control law has a fast and stable effect on external noise. The advantages of the proposed controller are shown through the comparison results with conventional PID and FLC control laws

Industrial arms should be able to perform their duties in environments where unpredictable conditions and perturbations are present. In this paper, controlling a robotic manipulator is intended under significant external perturbations and parametric uncertainties. Type-2 fuzzy logic is an appropriate choice in the face of uncertain environments, for various reasons, including utilizing fuzzy membership functions. Also, using the neural network (NN) can increase robustness of the controller. Although neural network does not basically need to build its type-2 fuzzy rules, the initial rules based on sliding surface of higher order sliding mode controller (HOSMC) can improve the system's performance. In addition, self-regulation feature of the controller, which is based on the existence of the neural network in the central type-2 fuzzy controller block, increases the robustness of the method even more. Effective performance of the proposed controller (IT2FNN-HOSMC) is shown under various perturbations in numerical simulations.

The large engineering building structures are costly and thus complex to maintain due to their chances of failure under various hazardous conditions. These buildings are needed to be protected against the damage due to the hazards like earthquake, wind, seismic waves, etc. This article focuses on the investigation of vibration mechanism and control strategies for protection of buildings from the hazardous situations. The article presents a robust solution of utilization of magnetorheological dampers for vibration control applications in complex structures. It aims at developing a reliable decentralized model to track and monitor the building structures and control them before the earthquake actions are encountered. This article develops a novel dynamically optimized and decentralized mechanism using the PID controller for the self-regulation of conventional PID controller-based method. The major goal of decentralization is to ensure that each of the subsystem is compatible with one another and can also work independently with a higher efficiency at the time of fault. The combination of decentralization and self-regulation is tested for a tall building structural model with 10 floors. The proposed approach is compared with the conventional PID based mechanism under the faulty condition in order to illustrate its dynamism and usefulness for practical implementation. The proposed simulated model provides 95.54 % earthquake tracking precision and can be used for developing the earthquake protective schemes for the adequate survivability of tall building structures as well as to safeguard the human occupant in it

An adaptive neuro-fuzzy controller for vibration suppression of a flexible structure in aerial refueling

Air-to-air refueling (AAR) has been commonly used in military jet applications. Recently, civilian applications of AAR have been garnering increased attention due to the high cost of air travel, which is largely dictated by the cost of jet fuel. There are two types of AAR approaches: probe-drogue and flying boom systems. This work explores the probe-drogue AAR system in commercial applications. Typical AAR applications deploy a drogue connected to a long flexible hose behind a moving aircraft tanker. The drogue is connected to a probe in a receiver aircraft before initiating fuel transfer and is retracted back into the tanker when the fuel transfer is completed. In order to ensure a safe and efficient refueling operation sophisticated systems need to be developed to accommodate the turbulences encountered, particularly in respect to vibration reduction of the flexible hose and drogue. The objective of this work is to develop a probe-drogue system for helicopter AAR applications. The first project is to make a preliminary design of a new AAR system for helicopter refuelling from a modified AT-802 tanker aircraft. [...

The development and wide application of double spreaders overhead cranes have effectively improved the loading and unloading efficiency of the container terminals. However, due to the nonlinear time-varying characteristics and parameter perturbation of the lifting device of the double spreaders, the difficulty of synchronous and coordinated control of the double spreader overhead crane is increased. In order to solve the problem of synchronous control of double spreaders overhead cranes, this work establishes the mathematical model of the double spreaders overhead crane and proposes two main methods. The controller based on the fuzzy sliding mode method is established. Fuzzy logic control can effective estimate the parameters of the system, reduce the chattering of sliding mode control, and improve the performance of its control. Mean deviation coupling synchronization control combined with sliding mode control can effectively control the speed error between the two spreaders, so that they can keep working synchronously. The other controller is established which use fast non-singular terminal sliding mode control to ensure that the system can converge in a finite time. The combination of terminal sliding mode control and super twisting algorithm can enhance the stability of the system.O desenvolvimento e a vasta aplicação de pontes rolantes de duplo espalhamento tem melhorado a eficiência de carga e descarga dos terminais de contentores. O controlo baseado no método do modo deslizante difuso.
