Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks
Being infrastructure-less and without central administration control, wireless ad-hoc networking is playing a more and more important role in extending the coverage of traditional wireless infrastructure (cellular networks, wireless LAN, etc). This book includes state-of-the-art techniques and solutions for wireless ad-hoc networks. It focuses on the following topics in ad-hoc networks: quality-of-service and video communication, routing protocol and cross-layer design. A few interesting problems about security and delay-tolerant networks are also discussed. This book is targeted to provide network engineers and researchers with design guidelines for large scale wireless ad hoc networks
Kafka and the Universal
Kafka`s work has been attributed a universal significance and is often regarded as the ultimate witness of the human condition in the twentieth century. Yet his work is also considered paradigmatic for the expression of the singular that cannot be subsumed under any generalization. This paradox engenders questions not only concerning the meaning of the universal as it manifests itself in (and is transformed by) Kafka`s writings but also about the expression of the singular in literary fiction as it challenges the opposition between the universal and the singular. The contributions in this volume approach these questions from a variety of perspectives. They are structured according to the following issues: ambiguity as a tool of deconstructing the pre-established philosophical meanings of the universal the concept of the law as a major symbol for the universal meaning of Kafka`s writings the presence of animals in Kafka`s texts the modernist mode of writing as challenge of philosophica
Being up for grabs: On speculative anarcheology
This is a book on the metaphysics of contingency. It looks at what could be otherwise, at what lacks the weight of necessity, at what is up for grabs. Aristotle maintained that there could be no knowledge of the impermanent. Since then, metaphysics has endeavored to find out what really is permanent, non-accidental and resilient – substances that endure, substrata underneath different qualities, fixed principles, necessary connections. In contrast, Bensusan draws on the growing philosophical attention to the contingent. It explores how we can counter Aristotle and develop a metaphysics of what ain’t necessarily so. The endeavor renegotiates the accepted familiarity between ontology and the search for an arché. Being Up For Grabs explores this in connection to what is up in the air, what is out of the blue and what is up for grabs. It is a metaphysical exercise that dialogues with several philosophical resources. It is also a speculative and anarcheological effort, as it tries to reach a broad and encompassing view of the sensible world while conceiving it as lacking any arché. The book emerges as an exercise in speculative anarcheology
Proceedings of the 12th International Conference on Technology in Mathematics Teaching ICTMT 12
Innovation, inclusion, sharing and diversity are some of the words that briefly and suitably characterize the ICTMT series of biennial international conferences – the International Conference
on Technology in Mathematics Teaching. Being the twelfth of a series which began in Birmingham,
UK, in 1993, under the influential enterprise of Professor Bert Waits from Ohio State University,
this conference was held in Portugal for the first time. The 12th International Conference on
Technology in Mathematics Teaching was hosted by the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the
University of Algarve, in the city of Faro, from 24 to 27 June 2015, and was guided by the original
spirit of its foundation.
The integration of digital technologies in mathematics education across school levels and countries,
from primary to tertiary education, together with the understanding of the phenomena involved in
the teaching and learning of mathematics in technological environments have always been driving
forces in the transformation of pedagogical practices. The possibility of joining at an international
conference a wide diversity of participants, including school mathematics teachers, lecturers,
mathematicians, mathematics educators and researchers, software designers, and curriculum
developers, is one facet that makes this conference rather unique. At the same time, it seeks to foster
the sharing of ideas, experiences, projects and studies while providing opportunities to try-out and
assess tools or didactical proposals during times of hands-on work. The ICTMT 12 had this same
ambition, when embracing and welcoming just over 120 delegates who actively and enthusiastically
contributed to a very packed program of scientific proposals and sessions on various topics
THE DEVELOPMENT OF ANTI-CORRUPTION EDUCATION (AN EVALUATION STUDY ON THE EFFECTIVENESS OF LITERATURE STUDY OF ANTI-CORRUPTION EDUCATION)
The purpose of this research is to develop learning tools as well as test the effectiveness of the
implementation of anti-corruption education. The research method refers to the development of procedural
models, which is descriptive, that shows the steps to produce a product that is effectively used at schools, not to
test theories. The research procedures of every stage of development were done through expert assessment,
individual assessment, group assessment, and field assessment. The model system approach, which was done to
the formative evaluation measures, was developed by Dick & Carey. The trials included learning experts
assessment, content experts assessment, learning media experts assessment, individual assessment, group
assessment, and field assessment. The results of the assessment trials were used as an input to improve product
development which was conducted using the t test (Paired Samples Test) to determine the effectiveness of the
teaching materials. Descriptive quantitative analysis techniques were used to compare the competence of
students before and after the use of teaching materials through the pretest and posttest which showed significant
results, namely the difference in the value of pretest and posttest. It means anti-corruption education teaching
materials are very effectively implemented to the students
