I'm sorry to say, but your understanding of image processing fundamentals is absolutely wrong
The ongoing discussion whether modern vision systems have to be viewed as
visually-enabled cognitive systems or cognitively-enabled vision systems is
groundless, because perceptual and cognitive faculties of vision are separate
components of human (and consequently, artificial) information processing
system modeling.Comment: To be published as chapter 5 in "Frontiers in Brain, Vision and AI",

Introduction: converging data sources in cognitive linguistics
The aim of the paper is to outline the topic of the present special issue. In the first section, the authors give a concise overview of current discussions on the structure and function of linguistic data and evidence in general. They argue that one of the main insights which the discussions led to is the need to integrate different data sources in linguistic theorising. The second section deals with the specific manifestation of these discussions in cognitive
linguistics. The authors raise the questions which the papers in the special issue address with respect to cognitive linguistics: What data sources can be integrated?; How can different data sources be integrated?; How does the integration of different data sources affect the acceptability of hypotheses? Finally, in the last section, the structure of the special issue is summarised
Human/Humanity, Consciousness and Universe: Informational Relation
From the perspective of the Informational Model of Consciousness elaborated and reported recently on the basis of the last
discoveries of the quantum mechanics and astrophysics, the meeting horizon between some ancient coherent empirical
models of the humanity and our modern scientific results is analyzed. These results are discussed in terms of information,
as a central axis relating the universe, the human and inter-humanity connections, and consciousness as an informational
tool for the exploration of the reality. Bringing into discussion the relevant recent discoveries of quantum mechanics (Higgsâ
boson, disembodiment of information from the physical particles), and matter/information properties near the black holes,
it is reinforced the concept of information as one of the fundamental constituent of matter and of our universe, showing that
information is actually the base fabric of matter structures, living structures and universe. The huge quantity of dynamic
information engaged in the living structures, particularly in the human organism, necessary to maintain the lifeâs functions
and to allow the adaptation requirements, differentiates the living from non-living entities. It is shown that consciousness,
human and universe cannot be really understood if it is not introduced on the panoramic scene a new player â dark matter,
with more than 20% contribution, besides more than 70% dark energy and only 5% observable matter from the matter total
quantity. It is shown also that the Informational Model of Consciousness, consisting in an architecture of seven cognitive
centers, converges with the ancient models of chakras, of etheric body and aura concepts, with dual Taoist concepts of
universe and human body, contributing with answers to the âmind-bodyâ, ânature or nurtureâ problems and even to Qualia
âhardâ problem, and supporting the Jungâs concepts on the mind. Finally, some questions are addressed to the quantum
mechanics, concerning the retro-causal effect and non-locality principle

The works of EM Uhlenbeck (1913-2003): an annotated bibliography
Eugenius Marius Uhlenbeck â Bob as he was known to his friends â was a multifacited (or many-sided) and multi-talented person. He was an accomplished scholar in the fields of Javanese language and literature and in general linguistics holding the hairs in these disciplines at Leiden University from 1950-1983 and 1958-1979 respectively. In the Netherlands and abroad he was widely acclaimed as an elder âstatesmanâ. His publications reflect his rare combination of talents. I will limit myself here to brief comments about his publications on linguistics, both general and Javanese linguistics
Cinnamons: A Computation Model Underlying Control Network Programming
We give the easily recognizable name "cinnamon" and "cinnamon programming" to
a new computation model intended to form a theoretical foundation for Control
Network Programming (CNP). CNP has established itself as a programming paradigm
combining declarative and imperative features, built-in search engine, powerful
tools for search control that allow easy, intuitive, visual development of
heuristic, nondeterministic, and randomized solutions. We define rigorously the
syntax and semantics of the new model of computation, at the same time trying
to keep clear the intuition behind and to include enough examples. The
purposely simplified theoretical model is then compared to both WHILE-programs
(thus demonstrating its Turing-completeness), and the "real" CNP. Finally,
future research possibilities are mentioned that would eventually extend the
cinnamon programming into the directions of nondeterminism, randomness, and
fuzziness.Comment: 7th Intl Conf. on Computer Science, Engineering & Applications
