    In vivo expression and analysis of a novel protein, NIAM, in Drosophila melanogaster

    The Arf-Mdm2-p53 is a critical tumor suppressor pathway that is lost in many cancers. A novel protein known as NIAM (Nuclear Interactor of Arf and Mdm2) has functions both dependent and independent of the Arf-Mdm2-p53 pathway. NIAM functions to inhibit chromosomal instability and cell proliferation, both common characteristics of cancers, perhaps indicating a role as a novel tumor suppressor. NIAM contains FYRN/FYRC domains found in many chromatin-associated proteins. The corresponding protein found in Drosophila, dNIAM, also retains FYRN/FYRC domains, which we predict associate with chromatin similarly to the mammalian form. Objectives were to investigate whether NIAM is a chromatin associated protein in flies and determine the biological role of dNIAM in Drosophila melanogaster. When expressed in flies, dNIAM localized to chromosomes at decondensed regions, consistent with a role in chromatin regulation. Understanding the functions and mechanisms involving the protein, NIAM, may provide future avenues for cancer research and treatment

    Collider phenomenology of vector resonances in WZ scattering processes

    Full text link
    We study the production of vector resonances at the LHC via WZWZ scattering processes and explore the sensitivities to these resonances for the expected future LHC luminosities. The electroweak chiral Lagrangian and the Inverse Amplitude Method (IAM) are used for analyzing a dynamically generated vector resonance, whose origin would be the (hypothetically strong) self interactions of the longitudinal gauge bosons, WLW_L and ZLZ_L. We implement the unitarized scattering amplitudes into a single model, the IAM-MC, that has been adapted to MadGraph~5. It is written in terms of the electroweak chiral Lagrangian and an additional effective Proca Lagrangian for the vector resonances, so that it reproduces the resonant behavior of the IAM and allows us to perform a realistic study of signal versus background at the LHC. We focus on the pp→WZjjpp\to WZjj channel, discussing first on the potential of the hadronic and semileptonic channels of the final WZWZ, and next exploring in more detail the clearest signals. These are provided by the leptonic decays of the gauge bosons, leading to a final state with l1+l1−l2+νjjl^+_1l^-_1l^+_2\nu jj, l=e,μl=e,\mu, having a very distinctive signature, and showing clearly the emergence of the resonances with masses in the range of 1.51.5-2.5 TeV2.5\,{\rm TeV}, which we have explored.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures, contributed to the XIII Quark Confinement and the Hadron Spectrum - Confinement2018, 31 July - 6 August 2018, Maynooth University, Irelan

    Health Information Exchange: Growth and Patient Privacy

    Full text link
    Health Information Exchanges (HIE) provide the electronic movement of health-related information among organizations according to nationally recognized standards. The goal of health information exchange is to facilitate access to and retrieval of clinical data to provide safer, timelier, efficient, effective, equitable, patient-centered care. HIEs are becoming integral parts of the national healthcare reform efforts, chiefly owing to their potential impact on cost reduction and quality enhancement in healthcare services. However, the potential of a HIE platform can only be realized when its multiple constituent users actively participate in using its variety of services. In this research, Yaraghi models HIE systems as multisided platforms that incorporate self-service technologies whose value to the users depends on both user-specific and network-specific factors. Yaraghi also will discuss patient privacy on HIE systems and show the effect of the emotional and environmental factors on the patients’ decision to disclose their medical information on HIE systems

    Abid Al-Jabiri is a character who was born in the middle of the 20th century in Morocco, a country that develops cultures of modernity. This certainly makes it a historical fact that Abid Al-Jabiri is a thinker who lives in the midst of a family that is fanatical about modernity. Departing from this fact, Abid Al-Jabiri became a person who knew deeply about how modernity developed. In his journey Abid Al-Jabiri received a lot of knowledge and wrote many phenomenal works. One of the sciences he studied was Tafsir Al-Qur'an, in which he produced a work which later became the subject of discussion by many researchers. This paper seeks to provide an overview of what Abid Al-Jabi's thoughts related to methods and practices related to observations in the Qur'an. The study used library research methods, then analyzed using descriptive-analytical models. From this model, a result is found that Abid Al-Jabiri gives an idea that in an effort to limit the Qur'an it cannot be separated from the historical aspects of the verses of the Qur'an. This is based on the fact that the verses of the Qur'an were not revealed to the Arabs regardless of the customs and culture that developed at that time. But besides all that, the textual side of the verse must be peeled first so that the information contained in the verse is conveyed in full. In this case, A Al-Jabiri expressed the idea that the bidding of the Qur'an must also consider the historical side of the verses of the Qur'an.

    Production of vector resonances at the LHC via WZ-scattering: a unitarized EChL analysis

    In the present work we study the production of vector resonances at the LHC by means of the vector boson scattering WZ→WZWZ \to WZ and explore the sensitivities to these resonances for the expected future LHC luminosities. We are assuming that these vector resonances are generated dynamically from the self interactions of the longitudinal gauge bosons, WLW_L and ZLZ_L, and work under the framework of the electroweak chiral Lagrangian to describe in a model independent way the supposedly strong dynamics of these modes. The properties of the vector resonances, mass, width and couplings to the WW and ZZ gauge bosons are derived from the inverse amplitude method approach. We implement all these features into a single model, the IAM-MC, adapted for MonteCarlo, built in a Lagrangian language in terms of the electroweak chiral Lagrangian and a chiral Lagrangian for the vector resonances, which mimics the resonant behavior of the IAM and provides unitary amplitudes. The model has been implemented in MadGraph, allowing us to perform a realistic study of the signal versus background events at the LHC. In particular, we have focused our study on the pp→WZjjpp\to WZjj type of events, discussing first on the potential of the hadronic and semileptonic channels of the final WZWZ, and next exploring in more detail the clearest signals. These are provided by the leptonic decays of the gauge bosons, leading to a final state with ℓ1+ℓ1−ℓ2+νjj\ell_1^+\ell_1^-\ell_2^+\nu jj, ℓ=e,μ\ell=e,\mu, having a very distinctive signature, and showing clearly the emergence of the resonances with masses in the range of 1.5-2.5 TeV, which we have explored.Comment: Revised version accepted for publication in JHEP. Core curriculum in Chad : a case study

    Get PDF
    had has had civil war since independence (1960) and that has impacted negatively on education. This civil war makes the governmental schools poor and unstable because most of the national budget for education goes to the military most of the time. This instability in the governmental schools made the community sent their children to the non-governmental schools, which have been financed by individuals or other countries. These schools are more stable than the governmental schools. Yet, these schools have language and curriculum problems, which have been unrecognized by the government for a long time. This thesis examines the non-governmental schools in Chad. This thesis compares the governmental schools\u27 and the non-governmental schools\u27 curricula. It analyzes the two types of schools, and the curriculum problems that these schools are suffering from. The thesis focuses on how to unify the study language between these schools and to create a core curriculum between these schools. To do this thesis, I used case study method. I did interviews with administrators, graduates, and students in five different kinds of schools. Finally, Chad as one of the poorest nation needs much, especially in the education. I hope this is the beginning of examining and solving the non-governmental schools\u27 problems because these schools are very efficient for the community

    In this article we define a requirements elicitation method based on natural language modelling. We argue that our method complies with synthesized quality criteria for RE methods, and compare this with the compliance of traditional RE methods (EER, ORM, UML). We show limited empirical evidence to support our theoretical argument.computer science applications;

    Digital literacy is something that cannot be avoided in writing an article or scientific work. Digital literacy has begun to replace manual literacy which has been used by academics in writing scientific papers. Migration of manual literacy to digital literacy from year to year is absolutely necessary. One of the reference manager applications that can be used is Mendeley. The Mendeley application makes it easy for users to include digital references, but the Mendeley application tends to only support Latin writing, while for Arabic writing there are still some obstacles. Mendeley has an important role in writing the thesis because reference management can facilitate the academic community to quote citations and good reference management and can minimize the occurrence of plagiarism

    Competition among industries make companies give their best effort to handle and face every challenge that may be arise. Companies must deliver their customers needs in timely manner efficiently, so time and power efficientcy during distribution process can be achieved. PT. Surya Multi Indopack factory which aims to deliver their product in timely manner, to have efficient cost and to deliver best services. However, this factory’s planning to distribute and deliver their product is less effective to achieve their targets. Given that problem, this factory needs efficient schedule and arrangement to distribute their product so time and distribution cost efficiently can be achieved. This study was conducted at PT. Surya Multi Indopack by using Savings Matrix. Some steps in minimizing the distance when delivering products are identifying distance matrix, identifying saving matrix, allocating the customers to the transportation or to the route and sorting the customers in defined route. By using Savings Matrix, there are some route planning for 2012 - 2013 which are more efficient than the old ones. Route planning A has two alternatives, there are Alternative I (Factory Situbondo Jember Probolinggo Factory) or Alternative VI(Factory Probolinggo Jember Situbondo Factory). Those two alternative have shortest route, that is 449,38 km with 742 roll . Route planning B has two alternative as well, there are Alternative I (Factory Pasuruan Malang Sidoarjo Factory) or Alternative V (Factory Sidoarjo Malang Pasuruan Factory). Those two alternative have shortest route, that is 214,45 km with 682 roll . Previous distribution cost in 2011 - 2012 was IDR. 179.603.300 / 1 ½ year. But by using the new route, the distribution cost becomes IDR. 135.349.300 / 1 ½ year which means the cost efficientcy of the new route is IDR. 44.254.000 / 1 ½ year or 24,64%/ year. So as to obtain the minimum cost distribution on the new route is also the method applied in 2012-2013and obtained Savings Matrix distribution cost is IDR. 131.927.200/ 1 ½ year
