A Review of Wireless Sensor Networks with Cognitive Radio Techniques and Applications
The advent of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) has inspired various sciences and telecommunication with its applications, there is a growing demand for robust methodologies that can ensure extended lifetime. Sensor nodes are small equipment which may hold less electrical energy and preserve it until they reach the destination of the network. The main concern is supposed to carry out sensor routing process along with transferring information. Choosing the best route for transmission in a sensor node is necessary to reach the destination and conserve energy. Clustering in the network is considered to be an effective method for gathering of data and routing through the nodes in wireless sensor networks. The primary requirement is to extend network lifetime by minimizing the consumption of energy. Further integrating cognitive radio technique into sensor networks, that can make smart choices based on knowledge acquisition, reasoning, and information sharing may support the network's complete purposes amid the presence of several limitations and optimal targets. This examination focuses on routing and clustering using metaheuristic techniques and machine learning because these characteristics have a detrimental impact on cognitive radio wireless sensor node lifetime

Inter Vehicle Distance based connectivity aware routing in vehicular adhoc networks
Connectivity in vehicular traffic environment has witnessed significant attention due to the direct impact on the performance of most of the traffic safety applications of intelligent transport system. Various parameters such as density, speed, direction, link quality and inter vehicle distance (IVD) have been utilized for measuring connectivity. IVD has greater impact on connectivity and controls the impact of other parameters. Usage of real time IVD for measuring connectivity has not received sufficient attention in VANETs. This paper proposes IVD based connectivity aware routing (Ivd-CAR) for enhancing connectivity aware data dissemination. IVD calculation is robust and can effectively handle instantaneous GPS failure. Two localization techniques; namely, cooperative localization and Geometry based Localization are developed. Standard deviation of real time IVDs of a forwarding path is derived. Distribution of IVDs of a forwarding path is employed for estimating connectivity. Segment vehicle based next hop vehicle selection is utilized for incorporating network load, link quality and direction into consideration while selecting forwarding path. Simulations are carried out in ns2 to evaluate the performance of Ivd-CAR in realistic traffic environment. Comparative analysis of simulation results attests the superiority of Ivd-CAR to the state-of-the-art techniques: CSR and A-CAR
Energy efficient wireless sensor network protocols for monitoring and prognostics of large scale systems
In this work, energy-efficient protocols for wireless sensor networks (WSN) with applications to prognostics are investigated. Both analytical methods and verification are shown for the proposed methods via either hardware experiments or simulation. This work is presented in five papers. A Level-Wise Periodic Tree Construction Mechanism for Sleep Scheduling in WSN
The wireless sensor network(WSN) has been extensively used to monitor and control the natural ecosystem on a large scale like air quality, natural life, etc. Low battery power,low storage, and limited processing ability are the most critical areas of concern in WSN. To reduce energy utilization, the sensor nodes in WSN work in a cyclic process between active and sleep mode. A certain number of nodes are chosen active and they areresponsible for sensing as well as data transmission and rest of the nodes are gone to sleep. In order to lengthen the lifetime of network, in this paper we proposed a level wise periodic tree construction algorithm that uses a specific set of nodes to participate in tree construction, instead of all the nodes, to minimize the energy consumption. In this proposed approach, the main idea is to put the nodes, which are currently active and have already spent a significant amount of energy, to sleep mode, while giving chances to the leaf nodes, which has comparatively spent less energy, to become an active node and maintain connectivity. The performance of the proposed protocol is evaluated usingthe Castalia simulator. The simulation results show that the proposed level-wise periodic tree construction approach increases the durability of the network in conjunction with the non-level approach
Several Categories of Energy Harvested Routing Protocols, Challenges, and Characteristics in WSN: A Review
The routing protocol is a technique for determining the most efficient channel for data transmission. The route selection procedure, which relies on the kind of network, channel conditions, and measurement systems, presents several challenges. Routing is essential in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) for environmental monitoring, traffic monitoring, and other applications. WSNs are small nodes that can sense, interpret data, and communicate wirelessly. Many routing, power control, and data dissemination techniques have been developed specifically for WSNs, where energy efficiency is a crucial design factor.
On the other hand, the focus has been on energy harvesting and standard routing methods, which can vary depending on the design and network architecture. In a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN), the data collected by the sensor nodes is typically transferred to the base station, which connects the sensor network to other networks (such as the internet), where it is processed and necessary action is taken. Vehicular Networks for Combating a Worldwide Pandemic: Preventing the Spread of COVID-19
As a worldwide pandemic, the coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) has caused
serious restrictions in people's social life, along with the loss of lives, the
collapse of economies and the disruption of humanitarian aids. Despite the
advance of technological developments, we, as researchers, have witnessed that
several issues need further investigation for a better response to a pandemic
outbreak. With this motivation, researchers recently started developing ideas
to stop or at least reduce the spread of the pandemic. While there have been
some prior works on wireless networks for combating a pandemic scenario,
vehicular networks and their potential bottlenecks have not yet been fully
examined. This article provides an extensive discussion on vehicular networking
for combating a pandemic. We provide the major applications of vehicular
networking for combating COVID-19 in public transportation, in-vehicle
diagnosis, border patrol and social distance monitoring. Next, we identify the
unique characteristics of the collected data in terms of privacy, flexibility
and coverage, then highlight corresponding future directions in privacy
preservation, resource allocation, data caching and data routing. We believe
that this work paves the way for the development of new products and algorithms
that can facilitate the social life and help controlling the spread of the

Machine Learning for Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) Networking
Fueled by the advancement of 5G new radio (5G NR), rapid development has occurred in many fields. Compared with the conventional approaches, beamforming and network slicing enable 5G NR to have ten times decrease in latency, connection density, and experienced throughput than 4G long term evolution (4G LTE). These advantages pave the way for the evolution of Cyber-physical Systems (CPS) on a large scale. The reduction of consumption, the advancement of control engineering, and the simplification of Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) enable the UAS networking deployment on a large scale to become feasible. The UAS networking can finish multiple complex missions simultaneously. However, the limitations of the conventional approaches are still a big challenge to make a trade-off between the massive management and efficient networking on a large scale.
With 5G NR and machine learning, in this dissertation, my contributions can be summarized as the following: I proposed a novel Optimized Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector (OAODV) routing protocol to improve the throughput of Intra UAS networking. The novel routing protocol can reduce the system overhead and be efficient. To improve the security, I proposed a blockchain scheme to mitigate the malicious basestations for cellular connected UAS networking and a proof-of-traffic (PoT) to improve the efficiency of blockchain for UAS networking on a large scale. Inspired by the biological cell paradigm, I proposed the cell wall routing protocols for heterogeneous UAS networking. With 5G NR, the inter connections between UAS networking can strengthen the throughput and elasticity of UAS networking. With machine learning, the routing schedulings for intra- and inter- UAS networking can enhance the throughput of UAS networking on a large scale. The inter UAS networking can achieve the max-min throughput globally edge coloring. I leveraged the upper and lower bound to accelerate the optimization of edge coloring.
This dissertation paves a way regarding UAS networking in the integration of CPS and machine learning. The UAS networking can achieve outstanding performance in a decentralized architecture. Concurrently, this dissertation gives insights into UAS networking on a large scale. These are fundamental to integrating UAS and National Aerial System (NAS), critical to aviation in the operated and unmanned fields. The dissertation provides novel approaches for the promotion of UAS networking on a large scale. The proposed approaches extend the state-of-the-art of UAS networking in a decentralized architecture. All the alterations can contribute to the establishment of UAS networking with CPS
Metaheuristics Techniques for Cluster Head Selection in WSN: A Survey
In recent years, Wireless sensor communication is growing expeditiously on the capability to gather information, communicate and transmit data effectively. Clustering is the main objective of improving the network lifespan in Wireless sensor network. It includes selecting the cluster head for each cluster in addition to grouping the nodes into clusters. The cluster head gathers data from the normal nodes in the cluster, and the gathered information is then transmitted to the base station. However, there are many reasons in effect opposing unsteady cluster head selection and dead nodes. The technique for selecting a cluster head takes into factors to consider including residual energy, neighbors’ nodes, and the distance between the base station to the regular nodes. In this study, we thoroughly investigated by number of methods of selecting a cluster head and constructing a cluster. Additionally, a quick performance assessment of the techniques' performance is given together with the methods' criteria, advantages, and future directions
