Much support and more
Abstract. This paper examines the semantics of much when it occurs as a dummy element, in so-called much support (Fred is diligent; in fact he is too much so) and more comparatives (more intelligent, where more = much + -er ). It is shown that far from being anomalies, much support and more comparatives provide a clue to the correct analysis of much more generally: much is essentially contentless, serving only as a carrier of degree morphology. In short, much always acts as much support. These findings provide support for a theory of quantity adjectives (many, few, much and little) as predicates of scalar intervals, with the remainder of the content traditionally ascribed to them contributed instead by null syntactic elements and operations. The vacuous nature of much itself is also argued to account for its infelicity in unmodified form in many contexts (e.g. ??We bought much rice)
HUBUNGAN DUKUNGAN KELUARGA DAN TINGKAT PENGETAHUAN PADA PASIEN HIPERTENSI DI PUSKESMAS BAWANGAN KECAMATAN PLOSO
(Latar Belakang) Hypertension is defined as a persistent increase in blood pressure above normal blood pressure, systolic pressure more than 140 mmHg or diastolic pressure more than 90 mmHg. Efforts to avoid it, both internal and external therapies are needed, one of which is family support and knowledge, family support is a form of interpersonal relationship that includes attitudes, actions and acceptance of family members, so that family members feel that someone is paying attention to them. Management of hypertension requires familysupport and knowledge of patients in the healing process so that process is going well.
(Tujuan) This study aims to determine whether or not there is a relationship between family support and the level of knowledge of hypertensive patients at the Bawangan Health Center, Ploso subdistrict.
(Metode) This study is a type of Correlational Non-Experimental research, using aCross Sectional Study design conducted on hypertensive patients using a validatedquestionnaire. The sampling method used was purposive sampling with a sample of 94 hypertensive patients. Data analysis using the Chi-Square test with a significance value (α) of 0.05.
(Hasil dan Kesimpulan) The results obtained are a picture of family support for hypertensive patients as much as 84% get good family support, 14.9% get enough family support and the last with less family support as much as 1.1%. In this study,a picture of the level of knowledge of hypertensive patients was also obtained as much as 93.6% had good knowledge, 5.3% had sufficient knowledge, and 1.1% had insufficient knowledge. The results of data analysis using chi-square showed that there was a relationship between family support and the level of knowledge ofhypertensive patients (p=0.000)
Building an All-In Nation: A View from the American Public
As shown throughout this report, Americans are much more open to diversity and more supportive of steps to reduce racial inequalities than is commonly portrayed in politics and the media. Furthermore, Americans are more likely to see opportunities from rising diversity than they are to see challenges. They understand the problems associated with inequality in society and strongly support new steps and investments to reduce these inequalities and expand economic opportunities. Although differences remain between rising communities of color and whites in terms of openness to diversity and support for new policies to close remaining social gaps, many of these distinctions are more ideological in nature and less about race and ethnicity
Investing in Medical Research: Why We Must Embrace the Audacity of Hope
In the summer of 2004, then-U.S.Senate candidate from Illinois Barack Obama galvanized the nation with a message centered on the hope, promise, and power of the American dream. He said Americans possess the "audacity of hope," which, as much as any phrase of recent origin, describes the impetus behind both the conduct and support of medical research. This is not mere rhetoric. More than the citizens of any other nation, Americans support medical research. Today, there are approximately 35 million Americans ages 65 and older who, because of improvements in health care and nutrition, are more likely than ever to be healthy, vigorous, and productive
The huge success of Fairtrade products in the UK represents a grass-roots response to market failure, but the ethical label must not be afraid to ask for more policy changes that would benefit all
As Fairtrade Fortnight launches in the UK on the 28th February, the ethical brand continues to enjoy political support and the backing of millions of consumers. But there is much more that Fairtrade is yet to achieve, argues Deborah Doane, such as challenging the power in global markets that keeps poorer countries in poverty, and pushing for more policy changes that would encourage social justice in the global trading system
Vulnerabilities that Allow to Make Botnets from IoT Devices
Nowadays people want each of their devices to be smart and connected to the
network. This idea is called Internet of Things (IoT). The list of modern devices that
support IoT includes smartphones, watches, appliances, cameras, cars and much
more. It allows user to control its house just with one smartphone
Gendered nationalism : the gender gap in support for the Scottish National Party
Recent major surveys of the Scottish electorate and of Scottish National Party (SNP) members have revealed a distinct gender gap in support for the party. Men are markedly more likely than women to vote for the SNP and they comprise more than two-thirds of its membership. In this article, we use data from those surveys to test various possible explanations for the disproportionately male support for the SNP. While popular accounts have focused on the gendered appeal of recent leaders and on the party’s fluctuating efforts at achieving gender equality in its parliamentary representation, we find much stronger support for a different explanation. Women are less inclined to support and to join the SNP because they are markedly less supportive of its central objective of independence for Scotland. Since men and women barely differ in their reported national identities, the origins of this gender gap in support for independence presents a puzzle for further research
DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM FOR MANAGING AND DETERMINING INTERNATIONAL CLASS PROGRAM: GA AND AHP APPROACH
This study proposes a new method, a hybrid model for managing and determining the proposed International class based on many criteria of academic performance in university. The approach has been implemented as a decision support system allowing evaluation of various criteria and scenarios. The new model combines two different methods in decision support system: Analytical hierarchy Process (AHP) and Grey Analysis, the proposed model uses the AHP pairwise comparisons and the measure scale to generate the weights for the criteria which are much better and guarantee more fairly preference of criteria. Applying the system as decision-support facility for the management has resulted in significant acceleration of planning procedures and implementation, raised the overall effectiveness with respect to the underlying methodology and ultimately enabled more efficient academic administration
Myofascial Release
Fascia represents an intricate system of connective tissue that permeates throughout the human body. Its matrix of continuous fibers support, protect, divide and suspend both superficial and deep anatomical structures. While once thought to be a passive mesh network, new evidence suggests fascia is much more complicated. Now recognized as an active physiological component of the human body, myofascial health and function has been given much attention clinically. Of the techniques aimed to treat and restore fascial structure and function, myofascial release has been found to promote stability, increase range of motion and most importantly alleviate musculoskeletal pain. This form of soft tissue therapy deserves more academic and clinical attention for its positive effects on the fascial health
