Modelling and simulation of paradigms for printed circuit board assembly to support the UK's competency in high reliability electronics

    Get PDF
The fundamental requirement of the research reported within this thesis is the provision of physical models to enable model based simulation of mainstream printed circuit assembly (PCA) process discrete events for use within to-be-developed (or under development) software tools which codify cause & effects knowledge for use in product and process design optimisation. To support a national competitive advantage in high reliability electronics UK based producers of aircraft electronic subsystems require advanced simulation tools which offer model based guidance. In turn, maximization of manufacturability and minimization of uncontrolled rework must therefore enhance inservice sustainability for ‘power-by-the-hour’ commercial aircraft operation business models. Heuristics for a generalization of TSP in the context of PCB assembly

Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) is one of the most well-known NP-Hard combinatorial optimization problems. Adding new constraints to the problem yields different generalizations to the problem and each new generalization forms the basis of a new research area. In this study, we propose new techniques for a generalization of the TSP. In this problem, the cost of traveling between two cities does not only depend on the distance between these cities, but also on the visiting sequence. We analyzed the problem under different conditions; the first and last points (nodes) are set fixed or they are free and for solving the problem we propose several heuristics. After analyzing constructive heuristics, improvement heuristics are applied. As improvement heuristics, we implemented pair-wise exchange procedure (PEP) and record-to-record travel with local exchange moves (RTRLEM). Comparison of these approaches together with their parameter fine tuning are given.Doğuş Üniversitesi, TÜBİTA

Conference on Intelligent Robotics in Field, Factory, Service, and Space (CIRFFSS 1994), volume 1

    Get PDF
The AIAA/NASA Conference on Intelligent Robotics in Field, Factory, Service, and Space (CIRFFSS '94) was originally proposed because of the strong belief that America's problems of global economic competitiveness and job creation and preservation can partly be solved by the use of intelligent robotics, which are also required for human space exploration missions. Individual sessions addressed nuclear industry, agile manufacturing, security/building monitoring, on-orbit applications, vision and sensing technologies, situated control and low-level control, robotic systems architecture, environmental restoration and waste management, robotic remanufacturing, and healthcare applications

Supervisory control of machine tool feed drives.

While motion control of machine tool feed drives is the targeted application. The goal of this study is to explore the relative performance potentials of supervisory control systems against the classical servo control systems; Reconfiguration aspects at the control level are the scope of this study. One of the most essential nonlinear problems faced during modeling and control stages of the CNC machining systems is called backlash. Reversal of motion for each moving axis can lead to that area of disengagement where backlash occurs due to inherently unavoidable clearance between linkages of the machine tool feed drive system. Due to backlash, efficiency of machine tools will be undesirably turned down causing higher vibrations, lower contouring accuracy, and may draw the whole system into instability region. A Switching control scheme is designed to manage the control process where two different controllers with two different control functionalities, acting differently in two vital zones---one of them where the backlash lies, and the other when moving past the backlash---seem to be an important need. Medical Robotics

    Get PDF
The first generation of surgical robots are already being installed in a number of operating rooms around the world. Robotics is being introduced to medicine because it allows for unprecedented control and precision of surgical instruments in minimally invasive procedures. So far, robots have been used to position an endoscope, perform gallbladder surgery and correct gastroesophogeal reflux and heartburn. The ultimate goal of the robotic surgery field is to design a robot that can be used to perform closed-chest, beating-heart surgery. The use of robotics in surgery will expand over the next decades without any doubt. Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) is a revolutionary approach in surgery. In MIS, the operation is performed with instruments and viewing equipment inserted into the body through small incisions created by the surgeon, in contrast to open surgery with large incisions. This minimizes surgical trauma and damage to healthy tissue, resulting in shorter patient recovery time. The aim of this book is to provide an overview of the state-of-art, to present new ideas, original results and practical experiences in this expanding area. Nevertheless, many chapters in the book concern advanced research on this growing area. The book provides critical analysis of clinical trials, assessment of the benefits and risks of the application of these technologies. This book is certainly a small sample of the research activity on Medical Robotics going on around the globe as you read it, but it surely covers a good deal of what has been done in the field recently, and as such it works as a valuable source for researchers interested in the involved subjects, whether they are currently “medical roboticists” or not

Elektronik dizgi işlemlerinin eniyilenmesi ve değişken maliyetli seyyar satıcı problemi

Duman, Ekrem (Dogus Author)Bu projede baskılı devre kartları (BDK) dizgi işlemlerinde ortaya çıkan yeni bir gezgin satıcı problemi (GSP) üzerinde çalışmalar yapılmış, sıraya dayalı GSP adı verilen bu problemin önce matematiksel modeli geliştirilmiş daha sonra onu çözecek özgün yöntemler geliştirilmiştir. Bunun dışında, bu problemin görüldüğü iki tip dizgi makinesinin diğer ilgili optimizasyon problemleri (karesel atama problemi - KAP) de çözülerek toplam dizgi süreleri enazlanmıştır. KAP ve problemin bütününün çözümlerinde metasezgisel yöntemlerden yararlanılmıştır.Doğuş Üniversitesi; TÜBİTA
