    Identifying and Modelling Complex Workflow Requirements in Web Applications

    Workflow plays a major role in nowadays business and therefore its requirement elicitation must be accurate and clear for achieving the solution closest to business’s needs. Due to Web applications popularity, the Web is becoming the standard platform for implementing business workflows. In this context, Web applications and their workflows must be adapted to market demands in such a way that time and effort are minimize. As they get more popular, they must give support to different functional requirements but also they contain tangled and scattered behaviour. In this work we present a model-driven approach for modelling workflows using a Domain Specific Language for Web application requirement called WebSpec. We present an extension to WebSpec based on Pattern Specifications for modelling crosscutting workflow requirements identifying tangled and scattered behaviour and reducing inconsistencies early in the cycle

    Uso de ontologías para mapear una arquitectura de software con su implementación

    La arquitectura de software de un sistema es un activo importante para una organización que desarrolla software. Para maximizar los beneficios que provee una arquitectura, ésta debe estar en correspondencia con la implementación del sistema. En muchos proyectos existe cierta documentación de la arquitectura, pero sin embargo, la información de mapeos entre los elementos de dicha arquitectura y su implementación en código es escasa o inexistente. Este problema trae aparejadas dificultades de entendimiento de los elementos de código en relación a la arquitectura originalmente diseñada, lo que repercute negativamente sobre el aseguramiento de la calidad y los esfuerzos de mantenimiento del sistema. Si bien la provisión manual de estos mapeos es factible, es una tarea compleja y proclive a errores, particularmente a medida que la implementación del sistema evoluciona en el tiempo. En este contexto, las técnicas de alineación de ontologías se presentan como una alternativa para producir mapeos en forma automática. Por esta razón, el presente trabajo propone un enfoque automatizado y basado en ontologías para la generación de mapeos entre la arquitectura de un sistema y su implementación

    Crosscutting, what is and what is not? A Formal definition based on a Crosscutting Pattern

    Crosscutting is usually described in terms of scattering and tangling. However, the distinction between these concepts is vague, which could lead to ambiguous statements. Sometimes, precise definitions are required, e.g. for the formal identification of crosscutting concerns. We propose a conceptual framework for formalizing these concepts based on a crosscutting pattern that shows the mapping between elements at two levels, e.g. concerns and representations of concerns. The definitions of the concepts are formalized in terms of linear algebra, and visualized with matrices and matrix operations. In this way, crosscutting can be clearly distinguished from scattering and tangling. Using linear algebra, we demonstrate that our definition generalizes other definitions of crosscutting as described by Masuhara & Kiczales [21] and Tonella and Ceccato [28]. The framework can be applied across several refinement levels assuring traceability of crosscutting concerns. Usability of the framework is illustrated by means of applying it to several areas such as change impact analysis, identification of crosscutting at early phases of software development and in the area of model driven software development

    Model-Based Concerns Mashups for Mobile Hypermedia

    Mobile (or Physical) Hypermedia combines the navigational style typical of Web applications with the functionality of location and context-aware software. Users explore digital and physical relationships while accessing to information about their actual location, e.g. the object in front of them. Similar to “conventional” Web applications one might suffer usability problems when dealing with multiple informational concerns, but the situation gets worse because of screen size issues, the need to avoid user distraction, etc. In this paper we outline our model based approach for building mobile hypermedia applications by combining (“mashing up”) information corresponding to multiple concerns in a modular, usable way.     This report presents a Common Foundation for Aspect-Oriented Software Development. A Common Foundation is required to enable effective communication and to enable integration of activities within the Network of Excellence. This Common Foundation is realized by developing an ontology, i.e. the shared meaning of terms and concepts in the domain of AOSD. In the first part of this report, we describe the definitions of an initial set of common AOSD terms. There is general agreement on these definitions.     An Aspect-Oriented Approach for Spatial Concerns in Web Applications

    The growing availability of on-line geographical information, since the advent of open map servers in the 2000s, originated a new generation of Web applications, those which combine “conventional” Web functionality with typical features of traditional Geographic Application System (GIS). The rapid growth in number and complexity of Web applications with geo-referenced data together with the need to support fast requirements change, demands for increased modularity. The volatility of some of these changing requirements, both in the scope of their geographic nature or in the period of time in which they are valid, stresses the importance of the applications’ modularity. A solution is to take into consideration the crosscutting nature of these requirements and decouple their realization from “conventional” requirements in separate software modules. This paper proposes an end-to-end Aspect-Oriented approach to deal with spatial requirements from the early stages of applications development throughout to implementation. A significant contribution of this approach is the characterization of the most common spatial requirements in Web-GIS applications.
