Motion stabilization in the presence of friction and backlash: a hybrid system approach
In this paper a hybrid system approach is considered to deal with backlash and
friction induced nonlinearities in mechanical control systems. To describe the low velocity
frictional behaviour a linearized friction model is proposed. The novelty of this study is that
based on the introduced friction model, the stability theorems developed for hybrid systems can
directly be applied for controller design of mechanical systems in the presence of Stribeck friction
and backlash. During the controller design it is assumed that the size of the backlash gap is
unknown and the load side position and velocity cannot be measured. For motion control an LQ
controller is applied. A condition is formulated for the control law parameters to guarantee the
asymptotic stability of the control system. Simulation measurements were performed to confirm
the theoretical results
Optimal control design for robust fuzzy friction compensation in a robot joint
This paper presents a methodology for the compensation of nonlinear friction in a robot joint structure based on a fuzzy local modeling technique. To enhance the tracking performance of the robot joint, a dynamic model is derived from the local physical properties of friction. The model is the basis of a precompensator taking into account the dynamics of the overall corrected system by means of a minor loop. The proposed structure does not claim to faithfully reproduce complex phenomena driven by friction. However, the linearity of the local models simplifies the design and implementation of the observer, and its estimation capabilities are improved by the nonlinear integral gain. The controller can then be robustly synthesized using linear matrix inequalities to cancel the effects of inexact friction compensation. Experimental tests conducted on a robot joint with a high level of friction demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed fuzzy observer-based control strategy for tracking system trajectories when operating in zero-velocity regions and during motion reversals
Linear motor motion control using a learning feedforward controller
The design and realization of an online learning motion controller for a linear motor is presented, and its usefulness is evaluated. The controller consists of two components: (1) a model-based feedback component, and (2) a learning feedforward component. The feedback component is designed on the basis of a simple second-order linear model, which is known to have structural errors. In the design, an emphasis is placed on robustness. The learning feedforward component is a neural-network-based controller, comprised of a one-hidden-layer structure with second-order B-spline basis functions. Simulations and experimental evaluations show that, with little effort, a high-performance motion system can be obtained with this approach
Identification of the Servomechanism used for micro-displacement
Friction causes important errors in the control of small servomechanism and should be determined with precision in order to increase the system performance. This paper describes the method to identify the model parameters of a small linear drive with ball-screw. Two kinds of friction models will be applied for the servomechanism looking to rise its micropositioning abilities. The first one includes the static, viscous and Stribeck friction with hysteresis, and the second one uses the Lugre model. The results will be compared taking into account the criterion error, the accuracy and the normalized mean-square-error of the identified mechanical parameters. The coefficients of the models are identified by a recursive identification method using data acquisition and special filtering technics. The least square identification method is used in this paper in order to establish the motor parameters used as initial condition of the recursive estimation method. Computer simulations and experimental results demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed model
Nonlinear disturbance attenuation control of hydraulic robotics
This paper presents a novel nonlinear disturbance rejection control for
hydraulic robots. This method requires two third-order filters as well as
inverse dynamics in order to estimate the disturbances. All the parameters for
the third-order filters are pre-defined. The proposed method is nonlinear,
which does not require the linearization of the rigid body dynamics. The
estimated disturbances are used by the nonlinear controller in order to achieve
disturbance attenuation. The performance of the proposed approach is compared
with existing approaches. Finally, the tracking performance and robustness of
the proposed approach is validated extensively on real hardware by performing
different tasks under either internal or both internal and external
disturbances. The experimental results demonstrate the robustness and superior
tracking performance of the proposed approach
Novel observers for compensation of communication delay in bilateral control systems
The problem of communication delay in bilateral or
teleoperation systems is even more emphasized with the use of the
internet for communication, which may give rise to loss of
transparency and even instability. To address the problem,
numerous methods have been proposed. This study is among the
few recent studies taking a disturbance observer approach to the
problem of time delay, and introduces a novel sliding-mode
observer to overcome specifically the effects of communication
delay in the feedback loop. The observer operates in combination
with a PD+ controller which controls the system dynamics, while
also compensating load torque uncertainties on the slave side. To
this aim, an EKF based load estimation algorithm is performed on
the slave side. The performance of this approach is tested with
computer simulations for the teleoperation of a 1-DOF robotic
arm. The simulations reveal an acceptable amount of accuracy
and transparency between the estimated slave and actual slave
position under both constant and random measurement delay and
variable and step-type load variations on the slave side,
motivating the use of the approach for internet-based bilateral
control systems
Discrete-time sliding mode control of high precision linear drive using frictional model
The paper deals with high precision motion control of linear drive system. The accuracy and behavior of the linear drive system are highly affected by the non-linear frictional component compromising of stiction, viscous and stribeck effect present in the system especially in the vicinity of zero velocity. In order to achieve the high accuracy and motion it is mandatory to drive our system with low velocity resulting in many non linear phenomena like tracking error, limit cycles and undesired stick-slip motion etc. This paper discuss the design and implementation of discrete time sliding mode control along with the implementation of dynamic frictional model in order to estimate and compensate the disturbance arising due to frictional component. Experimental results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness and achievable control performance of the proposed scheme
Practice of law in the provisioning of accessibility facilities for person with disabilities in Malaysia
Malaysia’s significant changes can be seen clearly through the improvement of social welfare of the disabled and people with disabilities. Although the governments has carried out various policies and provide facilities as well as provision for the disabled but there are still many obstacles encountered by people with disabilities, especially the legal and the accessibility of facilities and services. Therefore, this paper attempts to discuss the practice of law relating of legal procedure particularly for disabled users which affects the movement of these people from one destination to another. This paper discusses the practice of law adopted in the preparation of facilities for disabled people to help them make movement independently. The study was conducted by secondary data to the Malaysia legal and policies for disabled person by comparing with United Kingdom (UK). Malaysia has come out with a strong legal framework for disabled person through People with Disabilities Act 2008 (Act 685).
