A Hybrid Genetic-Simulated Annealing Algorithm for the Location-Inventory-Routing Problem Considering Returns under E-Supply Chain Environment

    Get PDF
Facility location, inventory control, and vehicle routes scheduling are critical and highly related problems in the design of logistics system for e-business. Meanwhile, the return ratio in Internet sales was significantly higher than in the traditional business. Many of returned merchandise have no quality defects, which can reenter sales channels just after a simple repackaging process. Focusing on the existing problem in e-commerce logistics system, we formulate a location-inventory-routing problem model with no quality defects returns. To solve this NP-hard problem, an effective hybrid genetic simulated annealing algorithm (HGSAA) is proposed. Results of numerical examples show that HGSAA outperforms GA on computing time, optimal solution, and computing stability. The proposed model is very useful to help managers make the right decisions under e-supply chain environment

Some Prototype Examples for Expert Systems v.2

This report consists of the nineteen term project reports for the graduate-level course EE695G ” Expert Systems and Knowledge Engineering”, which was offered for the fall semester of 1984 in the School of Electrical Engineering. The purpose of the term project is to provide each student an opportunity of designing and implementing a prototype expert system. The application area of each of these expert systems was selected by the student(s) working on the projects. This report is published for the purpose of documenting these results for future reference by the students of the above-mentioned course and, possibly, other workers in expert systems. The nineteen reports are grouped into seven parts based on their application domains. Part 1 - Manufacturing consists of six reports, and Part II - Robotics contains three. Two reports in each of Part III - Vision and Part IV - Management, and one in each of Part V - Structural Engineering and Part VI - Automatic Programming. The last part, Part VII - Others, consists of four reports with different applications

A Hybrid Meta-Heuristic Method to Optimize Bi-Objective Single Period Newsboy Problem with Fuzzy Cost and Incremental Discount

    Get PDF
In this paper the real-world occurrence of the multiple-product multiple-constraint single period newsboy problem with two objectives, in which there is incremental discounts on the purchasing prices, is investigated. The constraints are the warehouse capacity and the batch forms of the order placements. The first objective of this problem is to find the order quantities such that the expected profit is maximized and the second objective is maximizing the service rate. It is assumed that holding and shortage costs, modeled by a quadratic function, occur at the end of the period, and that the decision variables are integer. A formulation to the problem is presented and shown to be an integer nonlinear programming model. Finally, an efficient hybrid algorithm of harmony search, goal programming, and fuzzy simulation is provided to solve the model. The results are illustrated by a numerical example

Credibility-Based Biobjective Fuzzy Optimization for Supplier Selection Problem with Disruption

    Get PDF
This paper addresses a supplier selection problem in which a buyer procures multiple products from multiple suppliers under disruption risk. The problem is formulated as a new credibility-based biobjective fuzzy optimization model. In the proposed model, cost, capacity, and demand are characterized by fuzzy variables with known possibility distributions. The objectives of our model are to maximize the total quality of purchased products and minimize the expected total cost. Two credibility constraints are used to guarantee that the chance about the supplier capacity and buyer demand can satisfy the predetermined levels. The main concern in solving the optimization model is to calculate the expected value of the objective function and the credibility in the constraints. When the key parameters are mutually independent triangular fuzzy variables, the expected cost objective and credibility constraints can be transformed into their equivalent forms. Taking advantage of the structural characteristics of the equivalent model, the goal programming method is employed to solve the supplier selection model, which can be solved by conventional optimization method. At last, some numerical experiments have been performed to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed model and solution strategy

Distribution-free approach for stochastic joint-replenishment problem with backorders-lost sales mixtures, and controllable major ordering cost and lead times

In this paper, we study the periodic-review Joint-Replenishment Problem (JRP) with stochastic demands and backorders-lost sales mixtures. We assume that lead times aare made of two major components: a common part to all items and an item-specific portion. We further suppose that the item-specific component of lead times and the major ordering cost are controllable. To reflect the practical circumstance characterized by the lack of complete information about the demand distribution, we adopt the minimax distribution-free approach. That is, we assume that only the mean and the variance of the demand can be evaluated. The objective is to determine the strict cyclic replenishment policy, the length of (the item-specific component of) lead times, and the major ordering cost that minimize the long-run expected total cost. To approach this minimization problem, we present a first optimization algorithm. However, numerical tests highlighted how computationally expensive this algorithm would be for a practical application. Therefore, we then propose two alternative heuristics. Extensive numerical experiments have been carried out to investigate the performance of the developed algorithms. Results have shown that the proposed alternative heuristics are actually efficient and seem therefore promising for a practical application
