Technology advances have let new strategies and tools so this task, so crucial in business, can be carried out more accurately and efficiently. The Business Intelligence implementation on the company is one of these mechanisms. The main goal of this final degree project is the Business Intelligence system implementation, called BI MODULE, on Onebox, a company specialized on tickets sales industry. Overall, this module will provide the necessary information related to sales made by customers of the company so the provided information will be useful for them and for the company. Moreover, another goal has been defined: the system optimization to be consulted through via mobile devices such as smartphones or tablets

    A telecom company (Vodafone), had the need to implement a Business Intelligence solution for Roaming data across a wide set of different data sources. Based on the data visualization of this solution, its key users with decision power, can make a business analysis and needs of infrastructure and software expansion. This document aims to expose the scientific papers produced with the various stages of production of the solution (state of the art, architecture design and implementation results), this Business Intelligence solution was designed and implemented with OLAP methodologies and technologies in a Data Warehouse composed of Data Marts arranged in constellation, the visualization layer was custom made in JavaScript (VueJS). As a base for the results a questionnaire was created to be filled in by the key users of the solution. Based on this questionnaire it was possible to ascertain that user acceptance was satisfactory. The proposed objectives for the implementation of the BI solution with all the requirements was achieved with the infrastructure itself created from scratch in Kubernetes. This BI platform can be expanded using column storage databases created specifically with OLAP workloads in mind, removing the need for an OLAP cube layer. Based on Machine Learning algorithms, the platform will be able to perform the predictions needed to make decisions about Vodafone's Roaming infrastructure

    A Decision Technology System To Advance the Diagnosis and Treatment of Breast Cancer

    Geographical variations in cancer rates have been observed for decades. Described spatial patterns and trends have provided clues for generating hypotheses about the etiology of cancer. For breast cancer, investigators have demonstrated that some variation can be explained by differences in the population distribution of known breast cancer risk factors such as menstrual and reproductive variables (Laden, Spiegelman, and Neas, 1997; Robbins, Bescianini, and Kelsey, 1997; Sturgeon, Schairer, and Gail, 1995). However, regional patterns also may reflect the effects of Workshop on Hormones, Hormone Metabolism, Environment, and Breast Cancer (1995): (a) environmental hazards (such as air and water pollution), (b) demographics and the lifestyle of a mobile population, (c) subgroup susceptibility, (d) changes and advances in medical practice and healthcare management, and (e) other factors. To accurately measure breast cancer risk in individuals and population groups, it is necessary to singly and jointly assess the association between such risk and the hypothesized factors. Various statistical models will be needed to determine the potential relationships between breast cancer development and estimated exposures to environmental contamination. To apply the models, data must be assembled from a variety of sources, converted into the statistical models’ parameters, and delivered effectively to researchers and policy makers. A Web-enabled decision technology system can be developed to provide the needed functionality. This chapter will present a conceptual architecture for such a decision technology system. First, there will be a brief overview of a typical geographical analysis. Next, the chapter will present the conceptual Web-based decision technology system and illustrate how the system can assist users in diagnosing and treating breast cancer. The chapter will conclude with an examination of the potential benefits from system use and the implications for breast cancer research and practice

    Framework for Interoperable and Distributed Extraction-Transformation-Loading (ETL) Based on Service Oriented Architecture

    Extraction. Transformation and Loading (ETL) are the major functionalities in data warehouse (DW) solutions. Lack of component distribution and interoperability is a gap that leads to many problems in the ETL domain, which is due to tightly-coupled components in the current ETL framework. This research discusses how to distribute the Extraction, Transformation and Loading components so as to achieve distribution and interoperability of these ETL components. In addition, it shows how the ETL framework can be extended. To achieve that, Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) is adopted to address the mentioned missing features of distribution and interoperability by restructuring the current ETL framework. This research contributes towards the field of ETL by adding the distribution and inter- operability concepts to the ETL framework. This Ieads to contributions towards the area of data warehousing and business intelligence, because ETL is a core concept in this area. The Design Science Approach (DSA) and Scrum methodologies were adopted for achieving the research goals. The integration of DSA and Scrum provides the suitable methods for achieving the research objectives. The new ETL framework is realized by developing and testing a prototype that is based on the new ETL framework. This prototype is successfully evaluated using three case studies that are conducted using the data and tools of three different organizations. These organizations use data warehouse solutions for the purpose of generating statistical reports that help their top management to take decisions. Results of the case studies show that distribution and interoperability can be achieved by using the new ETL framework

    A Proposed Architecture for Big Data Driven Supply Chain Analytics

    Advancement in information and communication technology (ICT) has given rise to explosion of data in every field of operations. Working with the enormous volume of data (or Big Data, as it is popularly known as) for extraction of useful information to support decision making is one of the sources of competitive advantage for organizations today. Enterprises are leveraging the power of analytics in formulating business strategy in every facet of their operations to mitigate business risk. Volatile global market scenario has compelled the organizations to redefine their supply chain management (SCM). In this paper, we have delineated the relevance of Big Data and its importance in managing end to end supply chains for achieving business excellence. A Big Data-centric architecture for SCM has been proposed that exploits the current state of the art technology of data management, analytics and visualization. The security and privacy requirements of a Big Data system have also been highlighted and several mechanisms have been discussed to implement these features in a real world Big Data system deployment in the context of SCM.
