    Understanding the Determinants of Cloud Computing Adoption for High Performance Computing

    Within the complex context of high performance computing (HPC), the factors influencing technology adoption decisions remain largely unexplored. This study extends Diffusion of Innovation (DOI) and Human-Organization-Technology fit (HOT-fit) theories into an integrated model, to explore the impact of ten factors on cloud computing adoption decisions in the HPC context. The results suggest that adopters and non-adopters have different perceptions of the indirect benefits, adequacy of resources, top management support, and compatibility of adopting cloud computing for HPC. In addition, perceptions of the indirect benefits and HPC competences can be used to predict the cloud computing adoption decision for HPC. This is one of the first studies in the information systems (IS) literature exploring the factors impacting the cloud computing adoption decision in the important context of HPC. It integrates two influential technology adoption theories and enhances understanding of the key factors influencing organizations’ cloud computing adoption decisions in this context

    Scheduling and efficient energy utilization in cloud system

    Cloud computing is an emerging topic on software and distributed computing based on Internet, which means users can access storages and applications from remote servers by web browsers or other fixed or mobile terminals. In a cloud framework different services such as servers, storage in the form of data as well as Big data, resources etc are given to a management's computers and different devices on interest through the Internet. Multiple clients want to run their jobs or cloudlets in the cloud at a particular instant of time. The tasks are executed depending on the number of processors available and the scheduling policy of the cloud. In a cloud simulation software such as CloudSim a two level scheduling in the form of Space-shared and Time-shared can be used in collaboration with First Come First Serve(FCFS). An efficient way of job scheduling in cloud is to assign weightage or priority to the various parameters coming along with the job also taking into consideration the priority value set by the client to the task. In this thesis an attempt has been made to develop an efficient priority algorithm for the jobs running in the cloud. Also an attempt has been made to reduce the energy consumption at a particular over utilized node as well as switching idle nodes to the sleep mode thereby optimizing resource usage and reducing energy consumption

    Influential Article Review - Social Customer Relationship Management (SCRM): What Factors Affect It?

    This paper examines customer relationship management. We present insights from a highly influential paper. Here are the highlights from this paper: The rise of social media technology has led to new customer relationship management tools that engage customers more easily and directly (social customer relationship management, SCRM). However, the usefulness of SCRM is contingent upon a successful adoption by an organization. Various technology adoption theoretical frameworks have been proposed for social media technologies generally, and for SCRM specifically. This paper extends the literature by exploring network externalities as a potential driver of SCRM adoption in organizations by surveying 363 supply chain professionals regarding their behaviors and uses of SCRM. The results suggest that network externalities have a substantial effect on adoption of SCRM in business organizations and that a perception of higher network externalities has a positive effect on adoption. This implies that organizations should select SCRM systems with better network externalities and also that they should educate their workforce about those strong network externalities leading up to the adoption. The major concern of air quality monitoring is to meas-ure the concentration of pollution and other important parameter related to the con-tamination and provides information in real-time to make decisions at right time to cure lives and save the environment. This paper proposes an Architectural Framework for the air quality monitoring system based on Internet-of-Things (IoT) and via Fog computing techniques with novel methods to obtain real-time and accurate measurements of con-ventional air quality monitoring. IoT-based real-time air pollution monitoring system is projected to at any location and stores the measured value of various pollutants over a web server with the Internet. It can facilitate the process and filter data near the end of the IoT nodes in a concurrent manner and improving the Latency issue with the quality of services

    Industrial Policy, Innovation Policy, and Japanese Competitiveness

    Japan faces significant challenges in encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship. Attempts to formally model past industrial policy interventions uniformly uncover little, if any, positive impact on productivity, growth, or welfare. The evidence indicates that most resource flows went to large, politically influential “backward” sectors, suggesting that political economy considerations may be central to the apparent ineffectiveness of Japanese industrial policy. Rather than traditional industrial or science and technology policy, financial and labor market reforms appear more promising. As a group, Japan’s industrial firms are competitive relative to their foreign counterparts. Japan falls behind in the heavily regulated service sector. The problems are due less to a lack of industrial policy than to an excess of regulation. Japan may have more to gain through restructuring the lagging service sector than by expending resources in pursuit of marginal gains in the industrial sector.Japan, industrial policy, innovation policy
