This study aims to find out how high the level and trends of student misconceptions experienced by high school students in Indonesia. The subject of research that is a class XI student of Natural Science (IPA) SMA Negeri 1 Anjatan with the subject matter limit function. Forms of research used in this study is a qualitative research, with a strategy that is descriptive qualitative research. The data analysis focused on the results of the students' answers on the test essay subject matter limit function with the number of students by 16 (sixteen). Data collection techniques used are shaped test methods essay, interview method to students who have misconceptions, and methods of documentation of the test answers. Examination of the validity of the data using a triangulation technique that compares the data written test results with data from interviews. The results of this study can be described as follows; (1) The level of misconceptions experienced by students belonging to the category of low, amounting to 12.18%. However, students who do not understand the concept quite high at 40.38%, and the others are students who understand the concept that is equal to 47.44%. (2) The misconception most experienced students lie in subconcepts explain the meaning of limit function at one point through the calculation of values around that point, that is equal to 20.51%. The tendency misconceptions experienced by students is located on errors and operating concepts that misconceptions students that there should be no limit in the completion of the writing of the emblem and misconceptions about the limit students to conclude if the limit value of 0 is no limit to the value of the function

Confusing Fixed and Variable Costs under Ramsey Regulation

Ramsey regulation, in the context of tariff rebalancing, is analyzed when the regulator is not fully informed about the cost structure of the firm. It is shown that even if the estimated relation between variable costs of the two goods produced is correct, errors regarding the composition of a given total cost between fixed and variable elements result in: (i) the price of the good with a higher (lower) elasticity of demand decreases (increases) as the estimated fixed cost is higher; and (ii) whatever mistake is made, i.e., under or over estimating fixed costs, the profits obtained by the regulated firm are lower than intended.

The U.A.A. provides that [a] written agreement to submit any existing controversy to arbitration . . . is valid, enforceable and irrevocable, save upon such grounds as exist at law or in equity for the revocation of any contract. 5 Courts and legislatures alike routinely state the policies promoting arbitration. Because most states favor the settlement of disputes through arbitration, there is a tendency for courts to find a valid arbitration agreemen

RHETORICAL TECHNIQUES ON REDDIT’S RACIST JOKES

Abstract This study will be focus on analyzing the racist jokes in Reddit’s dark humor forum, from rhetorical perspective. This research uses theory of rhetorical technique by Berger (1995) to identify the techniques used by the creator of humor. The data was taken from Reddit, and the research employed descriptive qualitative method, embracing the characteristics of a qualitative texts analysis. The results of this research shows that among the four categories of rhetorical techniques proposed by Berger, there are only three categories that were found in the data, those are; Language-based, Logic-based, and Identity-based. The last category which is Visual-based technique, was not found in the data, since the data was in a form of texts, instead of picture or video. Keywords: Racist Joke, Rhetorical Techniques .

High School Student Narratives of Error Analysis: A Qualitative Investigation into Literacy for Geometry Learning

    Get PDF
This narrative inquiry aimed to relate student narratives to error analysis of Geometry problems as a form of literacy implementation. Teachers need to develop a deep understanding and application of mathematics content through qualitative research to find connections to practice (Enderson et al., 2010). Geometry is a worthwhile subject to understand our world from various perspectives and to spur our imagination with constructing objects based on properties undergoing dynamic changes. However, teachers and researchers often wonder why most secondary students need help with the significance of learning and applying Geometry concepts. Literacy implementation bridges students\u27 narrative experiences and relevance to Geometry concepts (Draper, 2002; Ratnaningsih & Hidayat, 2020). This research involved four high school Geometry students revealing narratives about errors experienced with Geometry error analysis problems. Under a blend of a cognitive apprenticeship (Collins et al., 1991) and anchoring examples (Fast & Hankes, 2010), students responded to error analysis problems related to a Geometry concept and a field of employment. Prior research revealed how narratives about errant situations subconsciously affect errors from real-life experiences to problems in a course like Geometry (Clandinin & Connelly, 2000; Mertova & Webster, 2020). The errors included a wrong strategy needing comprehension, a miscomputation needing process skills, and faulty algorithms needing focus in the midst (transformational) or end (encoded) of a problem (Riastuti et al., 2017; Pomalato et al., 2020; Ratnaningsih & Hidayat, 2020). This research’s findings reveal that students experience narratives involving errors related to Geometry problems. The narratives implement behaviors and actions by students that are analogous to the standards for mathematical practice. The findings support implications for teachers having a model for literacy implementation based on the standards of mathematical teaching practices (Boston et al., 2017)
