Open System Interconnection (OIS): NASA Program Communications of the Future

    Get PDF
Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) standards are being developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the Consultative Committee on International Telephone and Telegraph (CCITT) with the support of industry. These standards are being developed to· allow the interconnecting of computer systems and the interworking of applications such that the applications can be independent of any equipment manufacturer. Significant progress has been made, and the establishment of government OSI standards is being considered. There is considerable interest within NASA in the potential benefits of OSI and in communications standards in general. The OSI standards are being considered for possible application in the onboard Space Station Data Management System. The OSI standards have reached a high level of maturity, and it is now imperative that NASA plan for future migration- to OSI where appropriate

The management of modern telecommunications networks must satisfy ever-increasing operational demands. We propose a study for the improvement of intelligent administration techniques in telecommunications networks. This task is achieved by integrating knowledge base of expert system within the management information used to manage a network. For this purpose, an extension of OSI management framework specifications language has been added and investigated. For this goal, we shall use the language Guidelines for the Definition of Managed Objects (GDMO) and a new property named RULE which gathers important aspects of the facts and the knowledge base of the embedded expert system. Networks can be managed easily by using this proposed integration

As the size of communication networks keeps on growing, faster connections, cooperating technologies and the divergence of equipment and data communications, the management of the resulting networks gets additional important and time-critical. More advanced tools are needed to support this activity. In this article we describe the design and implementation of a management platform using Artificial Intelligent reasoning technique. For this goal we make use of an expert system. This study focuses on an intelligent framework and a language for formalizing knowledge management descriptions and combining them with existing OSI management model. We propose a new paradigm where the intelligent network management is integrated into the conceptual repository of management information called Managed Information Base (MIB). This paper outlines the development of an expert system prototype based in our propose GDMO+ standard and describes the most important facets, advantages and drawbacks that were found after prototyping our proposal

The directions of efficiency increase of the self-organizing wireless networks MANET are proposed. They consist in the implementation of new methods and radio network management functions, coordination and intellectualization of the methods, corresponding to different OSI-model levels, and also coordination of the network resource management purposes distribution

An Appraisal of Effective Financial Management of Local Government Funds: A Case of Ido-Osi Local Government Area, Nigeria

This research work deal extensively on the appraisal of effective financial management of Local Government funds in Ido- Osi Local Government area. The population focus on local Government system in order to examine the level of financial management. Thus, the population sample is selected within Ido- Osi Local government area in Nigeria. Out of the sixteen local governments, sampling is selected randomly. Data were collected from both primary and secondary sources such as textbooks, Journal, government gazette while primary sources include questionnaire and personal interview. The responses to the questionnaire were analyzed by the application of Regression Coefficient in providing necessary conclusion and recommendation. Hence, this study revealed that there is an urgent need for local Government System in Nigeria to improve their financial control mechanism and to rationalize its expenditure patterns, in order to achieve optimum performance. Keywords: Appraisal, Conceptualization, Effectiveness, Financial Management and Local Government Authorit

An Analysis of the OSI Systems Management Architecture from an ODP Perspective

This paper analyses the OSI Systems Management Architecture (SMA) in terms of the RM-ODP concepts and architecture. It explains why ISO and ITU are considering new modelling techniques for implementing distributed systems management. In the information viewpoint, these new techniques might be inspired from GDMO. The paper also examines the use of automatic translation tools (GDMO to CORBA IDL translators) to integrate existing management agents within the future Open Distributed Management Architecture (ODMA)

Study of systems to manage the performance and quality of service of wireless data networks. Work with optimization techniques and project management to solve complex networks issues. The scope of this thesis is the SIT (System Integration Testing) process which is the testing procedure executed in customer test environment before the software goes on production environment. The main objective for this thesis is no other than improving the current process step by step taking into account the automation, efficiency, missing checks and much more. This project is a kind of Industrial process to create a powerful testing tool which can allow the company to deliver quality adaptor products efficiently, do better in less time helping to reduce costs, as Adaptors are the most demanded product of MYCOM OSI portfolio. Take into account that business is not only generated when an Adaptor is delivered for first time but also when Vendors provide with new releases and new functionalities and operators needs to order an upgrade of the Adaptor to be able to monitor the new functionalities deployed on their network. Purpose: Diabetic retinopathy (DRP) is one of the most common complications of diabetes mellitus and various studies have demonstrated the role of increased oxidative stress due to hyperglycemia in its pathophysiology. There are few studies in the literature examining total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and total oxidant status (TOS) in humor aqueous, and we were unable to find any, which measured oxidative stress index (OSI). The aim of this study was to investigate whether TAC, TOS, and OSI in the aqueous humor changed according to DRP stage. Materials and Methods: This prospective study included a total of 86 cataract patients: 31 healthy patients with senile cataract (Group 1), 19 diabetic patients without DRP (Group 2), 17 patients with nonproliferative DRP (Group 3), and 19 patients with proliferative DRP (Group 4). Aqueous humor samples were obtained prior to cataract surgery. TAC, TOS, and OSI levels were measured spectrophotometrically and compared between the groups. Results: The analysis of TAC levels revealed that TAC levels were significantly higher in the control group (Group 1) compared to DRP patients (Group 3 and 4, p=0.042 and p=0.02, respectively), while TOS and OSI levels were lower in Group 1 compared to all diabetic groups (Group 2, 3, and 4) (p<0.05). Conclusion: The findings of increased TOS and OSI and decreased TAC levels in diabetic patients support the belief that oxidative stress might be an important etiologic factor in DRP. Increased oxidative stress may be a potential therapeutic target in the prevention and management of DRP. © 2020 Gazi Eye Foundation. All rights reserved
