Vorbemerkung: Wenn ich es unternehme über das Verhältnis des wichtigsten und verbreitetsten Hausthieres zu den Naturvölkern die Ergebnisse meiner Studien den Lesern gerade dieser Zeitschrift vorzulegen, so meine ich das auch begründen zu müssen. Von den 114 längeren oder kürzeren Aufsätzen und Notizen, welche ich während der letzten drei Lustra über den Hund schrieb, behandeln 22 die asiatischen, 4 die afrikanischen, 11 die amerikanischen 14 die austral-polynesischen, die übrigen die europäischen; doch war in allen diesen Aufsätzen mein Hauptaugenmerk vornämlich auf die Feststellung der verschiedenen Rassen gerichtet. Was ich aber während dieses Zeitraumes über das Verhältnis des Hundes zu den Naturvölkern aus den weitschichtigen Literaturen der Erd-, Völker- und Thierkunde gesammelt, das soll in Kürze auf den nachstehenden Seiten dargelegt werden
