Cañete, Matías Toril, Luis Díez, Alicia García-Mozos, "Analysis of power line communications for last-hop backhaul in small cells deployment", in Proceedings of the IEEE International Symposium on Power Line Communications and its Applications, 2019.),yEditor(IEEE)The purpose of this work is to study the feasibility of using power line communications (PLC) over outdoor public lighting networks (OPLN) for last-hop backhaul in small cell deployment. The analysis is based on actual noise measurements performed in two OPLN in the city of Målaga (Spain) and on a bottom-up channel simulator, which has been designed according to the physical characteristics and the common practices in such kind of networks. Estimations of the bit-rate achieved by PLC systems following the ITU-T Rec. G.9960 (G.hn) standard, are performed and discussed. Results indicate that PLC is a promising solution for this application.Universidad de Målaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional Andalucía Tech

Suggestions to Improve Lean Construction Planning

The Last Planner System¼ has been one of the most popular lean construction tools that offers a solution to tackle the problems of production management on construction sites. Since its inception almost 20 years ago, construction companies across the world have implemented Last Planner with reported success. However, even as Last Planner was originally designed to address some shortcomings of the CPM method, a particular shortcoming – namely task continuity was not addressed directly. Also, excepting PPC and Reasons for Non Completion charts, there are no explicit visual tools offered by the Last Planner system. On the other hand, Line of Balance based approaches intrinsically support the consideration of task continuity, and offer a basic visual management approach in schedule representation. With some exceptions, Line of Balance is seen as a special technique applicable only in linear or repetitive work based schedules. The authors suggest that i) there is a need for a robust theory of planning and scheduling and ii) there is a need for a more suitable approach that addresses critical aspects of planning and scheduling function for example by integrating Line of Balance and Last Planner to provide a more robust support for construction scheduling

GOE and Airy2→1{\rm Airy}_{2\to 1} marginal distribution via symplectic Schur functions

We derive Sasamoto's Fredholm determinant formula for the Tracy-Widom GOE distribution, as well as the one-point marginal distribution of the Airy2→1{\rm Airy}_{2\to1} process, originally derived by Borodin-Ferrari-Sasamoto, as scaling limits of point-to-line and point-to-half-line last passage percolation with exponentially distributed waiting times. The asymptotic analysis goes through new expressions for the last passage times in terms of integrals of (the continuous analog of) symplectic and classical Schur functions, obtained recently in [BZ19a].Comment: 19 pages, 2 figures. Buckeye Blood Waters the Longleaf Pines

In the woods south of Wilmington, men in blue uniforms moved forward in a loose skirmish line. They were probing, trying to find General Hoke\u27s last line of defense. Brig. General Charles Paine sent the men forward to develop the enemy. But in the pine thicket ahead, in a thin, ragged line, the bedraggled rebel troops likely had more to fear than bullets as those skirmishers probed and prodded on a February day in 1865. [excerpt

Use of dynamical coupling for improved quantum state transfer

    Get PDF
We propose a method to improve quantum state transfer in transmission lines. The idea is to localize the information on the last qubit of a transmission line, by dynamically varying the coupling constants between the first and the last pair of qubits. The fidelity of state transfer is higher then in a chain with fixed coupling constants. The effect is stable against small fluctuations in the system parameters.Comment: 5 pages, 7 figure

Pattern for malware remediation – A last line of defence tool against Malware in the global communication platform

    Get PDF
Malware is becoming a major problem to every organization that operates on the global communication platform. The malicious software programs are advancing in sophistication in many ways in order to defeat harden deployed defenses. When an organization’s defense fails to keep this malice invasion out, the organization would incur significant amount of risks and damages. Risks include data leakage, inability to operate and tarnished corporate image. Damages include compensation costs to customers and partners, service unavailability and loss of customers’ and partners’ confidence in the organization. This in turn will affect the organization’s business continuity. In order to manage the risks and damages induced by Malware incidents, incident responders are called upon to be the last line of defense against the digital onslaught assault. However incident responders are challenged too by the deep levels of knowledge, skills and experience required to contain the ever advancing and persistent Malware. This paper proposes the establishment of a Pattern template for Malware Remediation to aid incident responders to overcome their competency limitations in order to provide organizations the tool to repel Malware and to reduce the associated risks. Examples and details of the proposed patters are provided with discussions on future direction of the research work

Point-to-line last passage percolation and the invariant measure of a system of reflecting Brownian motions

    Get PDF
This paper proves an equality in law between the invariant measure of a reflected system of Brownian motions and a vector of point-to-line last passage percolation times in a discrete random environment. A consequence describes the distribution of the all-time supremum of Dyson Brownian motion with drift. A finite temperature version relates the point-to-line partition functions of two directed polymers, with an inverse-gamma and a Brownian environment, and generalises Dufresne’s identity. Our proof introduces an interacting system of Brownian motions with an invariant measure given by a field of point-to-line log partition functions for the log-gamma polymer
