This paper looks into delivering a Mobile Agent Based Knowledge Management System in Education System. Firstly the paper looks at reviewing the issues that are occurring in Knowledge Management System. A proposed system structure is made to show how a mobile agent works and is used in education system. XML Metadata with Aglet is used here for faster retrieval of data. A security framework is also presented to look at protecting a distributed network from malicious mobile agents. We also recommended an intelligent search module for the agent to search the required data

Key Issues in the Application of Knowledge Management in Education

    Get PDF
Today\u27s world is a fast moving place in which decisions are made with an ever-increasing speed, and the success of an organization rests on its ability to correctly make these decisions. This shift in paradigms has made knowledge the key resource as organizations shift their focus from natural resources to intellectual assets, heralding the use of a concept called Knowledge Management (KM). Despite its acceptance and use in commercial organizations, KM is not being applied in the academic world. No KM models exist for educational use, and no other studies into this topic can be found. This research establishes a foundation for future research by answering the question What does current literature identify as the key issues in the application of KM concepts in education? Forty-eight key issues were uncovered, each with varying levels of emphasis. Further research is required to better define these 48 issues, and to discover the cause of this educational issue gap. The key issues discovered here also can be used to build and test an actual KM model for application in an educational environment

The development of free-to-use open educational resources (OER) has generated a dynamic field of widespread interest and study regarding methods for creating and sustaining OER. To help foster a thriving OER movement with potential for knowledge-sharing across program, organizational and national boundaries, the Institute for Knowledge Management in Education (ISKME), developed and conducted case study research programs in collaboration with six OER projects from around the world. Embodying a range of challenges and opportunities among a diverse set of OER projects, the case studies intended to track, analyze and share key developments in the creation, use and reuse of OER. The specific cases include: CurriculumNet, Curriki, Free High School Science Texts (FHSST), Training Commons, Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy (SEP), and Teachers' Domain

Applying knowledge management in education : teaching database normalization : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Information Science at Massey University

    Get PDF
In tertiary education, Information Science has been attracting more attention in both teaching and learning. However, along the course on the database design theory, learners always find it hard to grasp the knowledge on database normalisation and hard to apply different levels of the normal forms while designing a database. This results poor database construction and difficulties in database maintenance. In regard to this teaching and learning dilemma, academic teaching staff should, on the one hand, pay more attention to organising different teaching resources on database normalisation concepts and making the best use of the existing and newly developed resources so as to make the teaching environment more adaptive and more sharable. and on the other hand, apply different teaching methods to different students according to their knowledge levels by understanding the nature of each learner's behaviour, interests and preferences concerning the existing learning resources. However, at present there is no effective Information Technology tool to use in considering the dynamic nature of knowledge discovery, creation, transfer utilisation and reuse in this area. This provides an opportunity to examine the potentiality of applying knowledge management in education with the focus on teaching database normalisation, in terms of knowledge discovering, sharing, utilisation and reuse. This thesis contains a review of knowledge management and web mining technologies in the education environment, presents a dynamic knowledge management framework for better utilising teaching resource in the area of database normalisation and diagnoses the students' learning patterns and behaviours to assist effective teaching and learning. It is argued that knowledge management-supported education can work as a value-added process which supports the different needs of teachers and learners

Culture influences all the organizations activities. On the other hand, due to the role and importance of knowledge management in obtaining competitive advantages, understanding the amount of support of organizational culture, especially dominant dimension of culture, is among strategies of knowledge management which are so much important and critical. For this purpose the current study has been conducted on managers and staff of West Mazandaran province Departments of Education. Based on Cochrane relationship, 385 managers and staff of the mentioned departments have been selected randomly. The type of research is applied and is descriptive and survey from the point of view of data collection manner. The measuring tool is standard questionnaire of organizational culture factors and standard questionnaire of knowledge management which validity have been confirmed through content analysis by experts and their reliability have been confirmed with the use of Cronbach's alpha. The results of structural models fit between the dimensions of knowledge management and organizational culture indicate that there is a significant relationship between organizational culture dimensions and knowledge management in West Mazandaran province Departments of Education and hence the effectiveness of organizational culture on knowledge management is accepted. Also three dimensions of innovation, job challenge and communications among all the organizational culture dimensions have the most effect on knowledge management process, which indicates the importance of these elements. Finally, with determining the effective factors on knowledge management the necessary recommendations in line with knowledge management process implementation have been provided

    Turning Data into Decisions

While most institutions have data-based information systems in place, some fail to share and use data and information effectively, which often leads to missed opportunities in planning and forecasting and in day-to-day decision making. Reasons for the failure include: 1) the lack of integration among information systems, 2) unclear priorities in the collection of data, and 3) the creation of data silos that prevent the necessary links between functions and structures across the institution. This report looks at how business officers can encourage the collection and use of institutional data across campus functions
