Introduction to personalisation in cyber-physical-social systems
peer reviewedIn this paper we introduce the notion of personalisation in Cyber-Physical-Social Systems (CPSS). A CPSS is an extension of Cyber-Physical systems involving cyberspace and physical space, in which humans, machines and objects interact adding to the complexity of the system, especially due to the dynamics of human behaviour that is not yet fully understood. We propose Personalisation to address this complexity. Since the development of CPSS is still at its infancy, we first cover a brief overview on the existing conceptualizations of CPSS and present the perspective we take for our work. Then we discuss the benefits of introducing Personalisation in CPSS and formalize the notion. The discussion further illustrates research challenges for Personalisation in CPSS with examples on possible use cases, taken from preceding works as well as future ones

Agent mediation and management of virtual communities: a redefinition of the traditional community concept
The paper explores the evolution of the concept of community in the light of computer mediated immersive virtual environments. Implication of Personalized Advertising on Personal Data: A Legal Analysis of the EU General Data Protection Regulation
The accelerating emergence of personalised advertising is mostly driven by data. Accordingly, algorithmic profiling has become a constant experience for every online user in predicting preference and interest. The profiling process raises several issues of human privacy and personal data invasion. Therefore, this study adopts the doctrinal legal method through the analysis of International Instruments and the European Union General Data Protection Regulation as legal avenue to safeguard and protect online activities of the data subjects. The findings of this paper discuss the main principles to be observed by the data controller in ensuring the legality of personal data profiling. This paper suggests the profiling process to be design-based security due to unavailability of system procedure to human knowledge. A Storm in an IoT Cup: The Emergence of Cyber-Physical Social Machines
The concept of social machines is increasingly being used to characterise
various socio-cognitive spaces on the Web. Social machines are human
collectives using networked digital technology which initiate real-world
processes and activities including human communication, interactions and
knowledge creation. As such, they continuously emerge and fade on the Web. The
relationship between humans and machines is made more complex by the adoption
of Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and devices. The scale, automation,
continuous sensing, and actuation capabilities of these devices add an extra
dimension to the relationship between humans and machines making it difficult
to understand their evolution at either the systemic or the conceptual level.
This article describes these new socio-technical systems, which we term
Cyber-Physical Social Machines, through different exemplars, and considers the

Virual world users evaluated according to environment design, task based adn affective attention measures
This paper presents research that engages with virtual worlds for education users to understand design of these applications for their needs. An in-depth multi-method investigation from 12 virtual worlds participants was undertaken in three stages; initially a small scale within-subjects eye-tracking comparison was made between the role playing game 'RuneScape' and the virtual social world 'Second Life', secondly an in-depth evaluation of eye-tracking data for Second Life tasks (i.e. avatar, object and world based) was conducted, finally a qualitative evaluation of Second Life tutorials in comparative 3D situations (i.e. environments that are; realistic to surreal, enclosed to open, formal to informal) was conducted. Initial findings identified increased users attention within comparable gaming and social world interactions. Further analysis identified that 3D world focused interactions increased participants' attention more than object and avatar tasks. Finally different 3D situation designs altered levels of task engagement and
distraction through perceptions of comfort, fun and fear.
Ultimately goal based and environment interaction tasks can
increase attention and potentially immersion. However,
affective perceptions of 3D situations can negatively impact on attention. An objective discussion of the limitations and benefits of virtual world immersion for student learning is presented
Socio-Technical System as Factors and Influences in Form Design Development
Since digitalisation in the cyber-physical system has taken over design development, researchers attempt to improve the approach to new product development including brand recognition. This research attempt to determine the design strategy based on syntactic design meaning in analysing the visual through design formulation, design treatment and design standard inline socio-technical system. The concept of digitalisation design scenario, the methodology was developed by observational study, laboratory study and interview to analyse designer integrates with the strategy of design analysis. The design analysis was approachable to determine the design representation and potentially generalised the characteristic of product design and consumers' psychological preferences toward product forms.
