Measurable realizations of abstract systems of congruences
An abstract system of congruences describes a way of partitioning a space
into finitely many pieces satisfying certain congruence relations. Examples of
abstract systems of congruences include paradoxical decompositions and
-divisibility of actions. We consider the general question of when there are
realizations of abstract systems of congruences satisfying various
measurability constraints. We completely characterize which abstract systems of
congruences can be realized by nonmeager Baire measurable pieces of the sphere
under the action of rotations on the -sphere. This answers a question of
Wagon. We also construct Borel realizations of abstract systems of congruences
for the action of on .
The combinatorial underpinnings of our proof are certain types of decomposition
of Borel graphs into paths. We also use these decompositions to obtain some
results about measurable unfriendly colorings.Comment: minor correction
Some design constraints required for the assembly of software components: The incorporation of atomic abstract types into generically structured abstract types
It is nearly axiomatic, that to take the greatest advantage of the useful features available in a development system, and to avoid the negative interactions of those features, requires the exercise of a design methodology which constrains their use. A major design support feature of the Ada language is abstraction: for data, functions processes, resources, and system elements in general. Atomic abstract types can be created in packages defining those private types and all of the overloaded operators, functions, and hidden data required for their use in an application. Generically structured abstract types can be created in generic packages defining those structured private types, as buildups from the user-defined data types which are input as parameters. A study is made of the design constraints required for software incorporating either atomic or generically structured abstract types, if the integration of software components based on them is to be subsequently performed. The impact of these techniques on the reusability of software and the creation of project-specific software support environments is also discussed
The PER model of abstract non-interference
Abstract. In this paper, we study the relationship between two models of secure information flow: the PER model (which uses equivalence relations) and the abstract non-interference model (which uses upper closure operators). We embed the lattice of equivalence relations into the lattice of closures, re-interpreting abstract non-interference over the lattice of equivalence relations. For narrow abstract non-interference, we show non-interference it is strictly less general. The relational presentation of abstract non-interference leads to a simplified construction of the most concrete harmless attacker. Moreover, the PER model of abstract noninterference allows us to derive unconstrained attacker models, which do not necessarily either observe all public information or ignore all private information. Finally, we show how abstract domain completeness can be used for enforcing the PER model of abstract non-interference
SPIDA: Abstracting and generalizing layout design cases
Abstraction and generalization of layout design cases generate new knowledge that is more widely applicable to use than specific design cases. The abstraction and generalization of design cases into hierarchical levels of abstractions provide the designer with the flexibility to apply any level of abstract and generalized knowledge for a new layout design problem. Existing case-based layout learning (CBLL) systems abstract and generalize cases into single levels of abstractions, but not into a hierarchy. In this paper, we propose a new approach, termed customized viewpoint - spatial (CV-S), which supports the generalization and abstraction of spatial layouts into hierarchies along with a supporting system, SPIDA (SPatial Intelligent Design Assistant)
