Removing the Digital Divide for Senior Web Users
It is hard for the elderly to use the internet to find the resource they want. Usually help is needed for them to complete the task on the technology things. The main reason for this project is to research ideas on encourage senior people to make use of the web to locate helps they want, such as finding volunteers and professional helps. The scope of this project is to develop a new way of web access and content presentation methodologies that let senior people getting help from volunteers and various service providers more easily that incorporates social networking technology e.g. Facebook. By incorporating the social network web site like Facebook into the web application, senior people will be able to find volunteering help or other related service providers through social networking. Volunteers will show up in Google map in search results for senior to easily locate helps. Senior people can also search for self help videos tutorials through the web application search engine. A mobile version of the senior user application will also be developed for easy access on the road. Other features that benefit senior users includes voice input, control / content posting and collaborative social networking where a sponsors would sponsor a help task volunteer undertake
There are millions of webpages on the internet, so visibility and how the site is found are key things when designing or building a webpage. The aim of this study is to build an
understanding about search engine optimization. I will study the elements that are essential for making a webpage visible on the web.
The aim of this thesis is to give an insight how search engines work and what affect the visibility of a site. How to build a well-structured site that search engines can easily find.
There is a lot of information about how to use search engine optimization, this study is to interpret the facts and make a perception of the key thing that effect search engine optimization.
By knowing the key facts that interpret search engine optimization one can understand why some of the sites on the web rank higher on search engines and some doesnât rank at
all. The key question is âis it possible to optimize a website without using a company that
is specialized in search engine optimization to get high ranking on search enginesâ
Click Restraint for Critical Online Source Evaluation
We turn to the Internet everyday for information about little things like when a local store opens, as well as about much bigger issues like how to manage critical health conditions or who to vote for. The search results we see first arenât necessarily the most relevant; they may appear at the top of a list because that site has been visited often or because a company or organization has figured out how to âgame the systemâ through âsearch engine optimizationâ (SEO). So how, in an effort to better understand an issue and to find trustworthy information, do we and our students sort through the overload of online information with a critical eye and with awareness of the biases that algorithms sometimes reflect? Click restraint - the practice of quickly scanning search results before deciding what to click on - is one piece of the puzzle. Weâll introduce how to teach about it in this short presentation
Search Engine Use 2012
Presents survey findings about Americans' use of search engines and how they view their own Internet search abilities, search engine performance, and the collection of user information to personalize search results or target advertising
Evaluating a Flow-Based Programming Approach as an Alternative for Developing CEP Applications in IoT
One of the main advantages brought by the Internet of Things (IoT) is the possibility of having large amounts of data from several sources that allow us, once analyzed, to make decisions in various domains in real time. This implies the need to be able to process large volumes of data in more or less limited processing times depending on the application domain. In this sense, complex event processing (CEP), used in conjunction with an enterprise service bus (ESB), has proven to be very efficient in multiple domains. In search for greater efficiency, some CEP engines offer the option of using flow-based programming (FBP) rather than their traditional programming using CEP together with an event bus. However, its use, while it may be more efficient, can lead to other limitations. In this article, we analyze and describe the performance and limitations of using a CEP engine with an ESB versus a CEP engine with FBP. This will allow developers to decide which option is more convenient for their IoT system depending on the application domain and its specific needs
