A Multi-Agent Intelligent System for Monitoring Health Conditions of Elderly People

    Get PDF
In this paper, we propose a multi-agent intelligent system that is used for monitoring the health conditions of elderly people. Monitoring the health condition of elderly people is a complex problem that involves different medical units and requires continuous monitoring. Such expert system is highly needed in rural areas because of inadequate number of available specialized physicians or nurses. Such monitoring must have autonomous interactions between these medical units in order to be effective. A multi-agent system is formed by a community of agents that exchange information and proactively help one another to achieve the goal of elderly monitoring. The agents in the developed system are equipped with intelligent decision maker that arms them with the rule-based reasoning capability that can assist the physicians in making decisions regarding the medical condition of elderly people

Ambient Intelligence Agent for Health Care.

    Get PDF
This paper presents an autonomous intelligent agent developed for ambient intelligence health care in geriatric residences. The paper focuses on Ambient Intelligence (AmI) Technologies since the vision of AmI assumes seamless, unobtrusive, and often invisible but also controllable interactions between humans and technology. Monitoring within the care process is a vital function requiring AmI solutions. An autonomous deliberative case-based planner agent, AGALZ (Autonomous aGent for monitoring ALZheimer patients), is designed to facilitate the nurses’ integration into a multi-agent intelligent environment, named ALZ-MAS (ALZheimer Multi-Agent System), capable of obtaining information about the environment through RFID technology. The agent operates in wireless devices and is integrated with complementary agents

Patient monitoring under an ambient intelligence setting

Springer - Series Advances in Intelligent and Soft Computing, vol. 72In recent years there has been a growing interest in developing Ambient Intelligence based systems in order to create smart environments for user and environmental monitoring. In fact, higher-level monitoring systems with vital information about the user and the environment around him/her represents an improvement of the quality of care provided. In this paper, we propose an architecture that implements a multi-agent user-profile based system for patient monitoring aimed to improve the assistance and health care provided. This system mixes logical based reasoning mechanisms with context-aware technologies. It is also presented a case based on a scenario developed at a major Portuguese healthcare institution

This paper presents an autonomous intelligent agent with a human thinking reasoning model, based on past experiences. The agent is developed to assist medical staff in geriatric residences. The health care process is a vital function, requiring nature-inspired solutions imitating the residence staff behaviours. An autonomous deliberative Case-Based Planner agent, AGALZ (Autonomous aGent for monitoring ALZheimer patients), is developed and integrated into an environment-aware multi-agent system, named ALZ-MAS (ALZheimer Multi-Agent System), to optimize health care in geriatric residences. ALZ-MAS is capable of obtaining information about the environment through RFID technology

Context-Aware Self-Organized Resource Allocation In Intelligent Water Informatics

An increasing attention of intelligent water informatics has been registered in the recent years, specifically for monitoring water distribution systems. With a combination of smart sensor network technologies and water resource management systems, the intelligent water management system will be provided more easily to acquire the context information of water distribution systems, which aids to supply on a real-time monitoring/response/distribution framework through exchanging resource information in real time. In addition, endowing smart water grids with self-organizing capabilities is instrumental in helping operators cope with smart operations and maintenance. In this paper, we investigate the water resource allocation for heterogeneous smart water grids with context information. A water resource sharing algorithm is developed for efficient managing water resource in intelligent water informatics. Given the context information of water distribution grid, the reinforcement learning scheme, namely SWG-RL, is performed by virtue of two approaches: spectral clustering method and multi-agent reinforcement learning (RL). In the proposed SWG-RL scheme, the novel spectral clustering algorithm is proposed to cluster end-users into different communities with respect to the context information, and thereafter the community is modeled as an agent, which makes the online optimal decision for water resource allocation based on its interaction with the environment context dynamically. The proposed approach is tested and the numerical results show that the significant performance gain compared to conventional static schemes

ExperNet: An Intelligent Multiagent System for WAN Management

This paper describes ExperNet, an intelligent multi-agent system that was developed under an EU funded project to assist in the management of a large-scale data network. ExperNet assists network operators at various nodes of a WAN to detect and diagnose hardware failures and network traffic problems and suggests the most feasible solution, through a web-based interface. ExperNet is composed by intelligent agents, capable of both local problem solving and social interaction among them for coordinating problem diagnosis and repair. The current network state is captured and maintained by conventional network management and monitoring software components, which have been smoothly integrated into the system through sophisticated information exchange interfaces. For the implementation of the agents, a distributed Prolog system enhanced with networking facilities was developed. The agents’ knowledge base is developed in an extensible and reactive knowledge base system capable of handling multiple types of knowledge representation. ExperNet has been developed, installed and tested successfully in an experimental network zone of Ukraine

Multi-agent systems for power engineering applications - part 1 : Concepts, approaches and technical challenges

This is the first part of a 2-part paper that has arisen from the work of the IEEE Power Engineering Society's Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) Working Group. Part 1 of the paper examines the potential value of MAS technology to the power industry. In terms of contribution, it describes fundamental concepts and approaches within the field of multi-agent systems that are appropriate to power engineering applications. As well as presenting a comprehensive review of the meaningful power engineering applications for which MAS are being investigated, it also defines the technical issues which must be addressed in order to accelerate and facilitate the uptake of the technology within the power and energy sector. Part 2 of the paper explores the decisions inherent in engineering multi-agent systems for applications in the power and energy sector and offers guidance and recommendations on how MAS can be designed and implemented
