WLAN Hot Spot services for the automotive and oil industries :a business analysis Or : "Refuel the car with petrol and information, both ways at the gas station"
While you refuel for gas ,why not refuel for information or download vehicle data ? This paper analyzes in extensive detail the user segmentation by vehicle usage , service offering , and full business models from WLAN hot spot services delivered to vehicles (private, professional , public) around gas stations . Are also analyzed the parties which play a role in such service authorization, provisioning and delivery , with all the dependencies modelled by attributed digraphs . Sevice planning is included as to WLAN base station capabilities . Five year financial models (CAPEX,OPEX) , and data pertain to two possible service suppliers : multi-service oil companies, and mobile service operators (or MVNO) . Model optimization on the return-on-investment (ROI) is carried out for different deployment scenarios ,geographical coverage assumptions, as well as tariff structures . Comparison is also being made with public GPRS data services ,as precursors for 3G services,and the effect of WLAN roaming is analyzed .Analysis shows that due to manpower costs and marketing costs , suitable ROI will not be achieved unless externalities are accounted for and innovative tariff structures are introduced . Open issues and further research are outlined . Handover Analysis Of Data Services In Wireless Distribution System (Wds) Using IEEE 802.11ac Standards In Telecommunication Laboratory Polines
Problems with limited WLAN coverage areas often become a constraint when users access the Internet by migrating. This final project contains an analysis of the effect of handover on the quality of data service with Quality of Service (QoS) parameter that is throughput, delay, jitter and packet loss. The Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) 802.11ac networking system in the Telecommunication Laboratory of Semarang State Polytechnic area that supports the handover feature is built with the Wireless Distribution System (WDS) technique that is configured with Service Set Identifier (SSID), the same password and channel and the placement of Access Point (AP) with overlapping coverage areas in one roaming domain. The tool used is Wireshark obtained the results of the test that is the average throughput value on the download service of 12,94 Mbps, the upload service of 11,22 Mbps and video streaming service of 3,66 Mbps. The average value of delay in the download service is 0,99 ms, the upload service is 1,19 ms and the video streaming service is 3,07 ms. The average value of jitter on the download service is 0,36 ms, on the upload service of 0,35 ms and the video streaming service is 3,66 ms. The average value of packet loss on the download service is 2,57 %, the upload service is 5,08 % and the video streaming service is 7,03
MIPv6 Experimental Evaluation using Overlay Networks
The commercial deployment of Mobile IPv6 has been hastened by the concepts of Integrated
Wireless Networks and Overlay Networks, which are present in the notion of the
forthcoming generation of wireless communications. Individual wireless access networks
show limitations that can be overcome through the integration of different technologies
into a single unified platform (i.e., 4G systems). This paper summarises practical experiments
performed to evaluate the impact of inter-networking (i.e. vertical handovers) on
the Network and Transport layers. Based on our observations, we propose and evaluate a
number of inter-technology handover optimisation techniques, e.g., Router Advertisements
frequency values, Binding Update simulcasting, Router Advertisement caching, and Soft
Handovers. The paper concludes with the description of a policy-based mobility support
middleware (PROTON) that hides 4G networking complexities from mobile users, provides
informed handover-related decisions, and enables the application of different vertical
handover methods and optimisations according to context.Publicad
WI-FI ALLIANCE HOTSPOT 2.0 SPECIFICATION BASED NETWORK DISCOVERY, SELECTION, AUTHENTICATION, DEPLOYMENT AND FUNCTIONALITY TESTS.
The demand for high mobile data transmission has been dramatically enlarged since there is a significant increase at the number of mobile communication devices that capable of providing high data rates. It is clearly observed that even the next generation cellular networks are not able to respond to this demand to provide the required level of mobile data transmission capacity. Although, WLAN responses to this demand by providing upwards of 600 Mbps data rates it is not convenient in terms of cellular like mobility and requires user intervention anytime of reconnection to a hotspot. Therefore, the need for a new technology took place and IEEE has introduced a new amendment to IEEE 802.11 standards family which is called as IEEE 802.11u. Based on IEEE 802.11u amendment, WFA developed WFA Hotspot 2.0 Specification and started to certify the Wi-Fi devices under Passpoint certification program. This new technology developed to provide Wi-Fi capable devices simply identify, select and associate to a Hotspot without any user intervention in a highly secure manner.
As Hotspot 2.0 Specification is quite new in the market it has been a challenging work to reach some academic papers; however, IEEE 802.11u standard, Internet sources, white papers published by different companies/organizations and discussions with telecommunication experts have made this master thesis to achieve its goals.
This thesis work provides a great resource for the network operators to have a great understanding of the Hotspot 2.0 Specification in terms of theory, network element requirements and deployment by providing a good understanding of the system functionality. In this paper, a comprehensive theoretical background that addresses to WLAN technology, Passpoint elements, and IEEE 802.11u based network discovery, selection and authentication is provided. As the need for mobility in the medical world increases, newer systems and applications came to light; many of them based on wireless and mobile networks. PDA based systems were presented in the past, capable of videoconferencing and transmitting high quality images between a roaming consultant and a fixed point in the hospital. These systems not only had desirable characteristics but also incorporated additional services that were found of value: paging, Voice over IP calling, Internet, email, intranet, patient record update, etc. This paper presents an engineering and clinical evaluation of those additional services based on both objective and subjective criteria. It concludes that such complementary services can be desirable as they increase personnel mobility, utilize the hospital resources more efficiently while at the same time increase productivity and decrease the cost of hardware and communications
