Businesses throughout the US economy continue to transform even after the technology boom has faded. The key sources of this continuing transformation are investment in the information technology (IT) package (hardware, software, and business-service applications) and reorientation of business activities and processes to use both information and technology effectively.

The use of information technology plays an important role in the company\u27s business processes. One of the success factors of company performance is the optimal use or application of information technology. Especially in banking business process activities, the use of information technology is one of the weapons in competition in the banking business world. In this article Bank BRI, which is one of the largest banking companies in Indonesia, also relies on information technology in the continuity of its business processes. In this article, we will discuss about the application of the Bank BRI Manado branch office\u27s Information Technology and its benefits in the continuity of banking business processes. In this case the BRI bank Manado branch office uses a variety of information systems in the banking business processes that will be explained in this article

    Information Technology as Coordination Infrastructure

    Get PDF
Business information technology is traditionally viewed as information provision technology. In this view, organizations use their IT to implement databases that provide people with information when they want it. This view is persistent even though information provision is never an end in itself but always has the further purpose to support the coordination of activities of people. The role if IT as coordination technology became more prominent in the 1980s with the advent of network technology, that allowed activities across different businesses to be coordinated. This trend has accellerated since the growth of Internet usage, and today IT is used to support an increasingly varied range of processes performed by a variety of partners that do not all have a hierarchical relation to each other. This makes it difficult to analyze requirements for IT support and specify IT solutions: Business processes may not be well-defined, and interests of different businesses may clash. This report argues that to deal with this in requirements engineering and IT solution specification, business information technology should not be viewed as IT support for business processes but as IT support for the coordination of activities in one or more businesses. We will identify three basic coordination mechanisms, namely coordination by price, by management, and by shared norms, and for each of these mechanisms, we will identify requirements for IT support. The advent of flexible and standardized networking technology has facilitated the creation of novel coordination mechanisms within these three general paradigms, and we will give an inventory of generalized coordination mechanisms made possible by current IT. Finally, we will draw conclusions for requirements engineering methods for IT support for each of the coordination mechanisms identified by the framework

Business Process Reengineering on Customer Service and Procurement Units in Clinical Laboratory

Existing business processes on a Clinical laboratory located in Bekasi is still run manually. It takes a lot of time to do more process, especially in customer service and procurement units. These inefficient processes are analyzed here. Utilization of information technology (IT) supports operations of company and even improves efficiency and effectiveness of a company. However, the use of information technology must be balanced with readiness of existing resources to operate. Without supporting resources, especially human resources available, information technology is nothing. Business Reengineering Process method used to comprehend the existing business process, determine processes to be reengineered, investigate alternative redesign, simulate the existing business processes and the proposed business processes, performed an analysis of simulation results, and seeking opportunities in corporate using information technology. This Business Process Reengineering (BPR) research helped Clinical laboratory especially in customer service and procurement in improving efficiency and effectiveness of existing processes that will ultimately reduce cost and time. Results showed that business processes increase with information technology utilization and minimize the use of employee

IT in construction: aligning IT and business strategies

    Get PDF
The extent to which information technology (IT) infrastructures and strategies are aligned with business processes and strategies varies widely along firms. The objective of this paper is to explain the success or failure of IT in construction firms by focusing on the alignment (or lack of it) between business strategy, IT strategy, organizational infrastructure, and IT infrastructure. It is hypothesized that the ‘fit’ among these elements, the domains of the Strategic Alignment Model, is positively related to the Business Value of IT in Construction. The IT Business Value is evaluated in terms of efficiency, effectiveness and business performance. By applying the Strategic Alignment Model to the Dutch construction industry, it is shown that the inadequate alignment between these domains is a major reason for the modest added business value from IT investments in this industry. The first lack of alignment is the technology shortfall: hence IT contributes in an inadequate way to strategic processes of construction firms. The second lack of alignment is the strategy-shortfall: hence the firm strategy impedes the implementation of IT that could generate a high business value

PT. X has grown to be a company of papermaking which has several division to run enterprise business processes. Nowadays information system that support enterprise business processes have inadequacy due to fully unintegrated. That information system only support accountancy, whereas another business process mostly use non electronic. Based on that reason, therefore company need analysis and information system design which is enterprise architecture planning framework. Furthermore, exploring company business processes need analysis of business model and business strategy. Thereby evaluating the condition of information technology, the problems faced and the need of information technology in the future. As a result, the design of data architecture, application architecture and technology architecture are made. The design of data architecture for company consist of several sub system. Moreover, the major applications from design of applications architecture are human resource information system, sales and marketing information system, logistic information system, manufacture information system, warehouse and quality control information system, purchasing information system, accounting and finance information system. Technology architecture purpose use client/server architecture pattern and service oriented architecture data services

Occurrences Paperless Office in line with advances in information technologi. Technology allows people to obtain alternative information in the processing and reading documents by reducing the use of paper that is currently called paperless office system. This study attempts to explore the framework of the migration processing and reading documents that use paper for the use of information technology. The initial step to identify business processes that use paper. Design information technology infrastructure both in terms of hardware architecture and software. and then followed by a strategy of migration to a paperless office system (PLO) So the conversion technology acquired paper documents into digital documents and transform business processes that use a lot of paper in business processes using sofware applications

Change Support in Process-Aware Information Systems - A Pattern-Based Analysis

    Get PDF
In today's dynamic business world the economic success of an enterprise increasingly depends on its ability to react to changes in its environment in a quick and flexible way. Process-aware information systems (PAIS) offer promising perspectives in this respect and are increasingly employed for operationally supporting business processes. To provide effective business process support, flexible PAIS are needed which do not freeze existing business processes, but allow for loosely specified processes, which can be detailed during run-time. In addition, PAIS should enable authorized users to flexibly deviate from the predefined processes if required (e.g., by allowing them to dynamically add, delete, or move process activities) and to evolve business processes over time. At the same time PAIS must ensure consistency and robustness. The emergence of different process support paradigms and the lack of methods for comparing existing change approaches have made it difficult for PAIS engineers to choose the adequate technology. In this paper we suggest a set of changes patterns and change support features to foster the systematic comparison of existing process management technology with respect to process change support. Based on these change patterns and features, we provide a detailed analysis and evaluation of selected systems from both academia and industry. The identified change patterns and change support features facilitate the comparison of change support frameworks, and consequently will support PAIS engineers in selecting the right technology for realizing flexible PAIS. In addition, this work can be used as a reference for implementing more flexible PAIS
