An Innovative, Multidisciplinary Educational Program in Interactive Information Storage and Retrieval

There exists a large number of large-scale bibliographic Information Storage and Retrieval Systems containing large amounts of valuable data of interest in a wide variety of research applications. These systems are not used to capacity because the end users, i.e., the researchers, have not been trained in the techniques of accessing such systems. This thesis describes the development of a transportable, university-level course in methods of querying on-line interactive Information Storage and Retrieval systems as a solution to this problem. This course was designed to instruct upper division science and engineering students to enable these end users to directly access such systems. The course is designed to be taught by instructors who are not specialists in either computer science or research skills. It is independent of any particular IS and R system or computer hardware. The project is sponsored by NASA and conducted by the University of Southwestern Louisiana and Southern University

"This is not 13th Grade": Making the Transition to College through Coding

The Summer Coding Academy 2017 at the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) was designed for the first-year freshman and transfer students with a declared Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) major. The camp participants were from diverse STEM fields that included engineering, biochemistry, nuclear medicine science, biology, computer information systems, meteorology, and 3-D animation & game design. The objectives of the camp were (1) to improve the student’s preparation for a rigorous STEM degree, (2) to increase their skills in communication and data analytics through coding and robotics. Information Systems Analysis And Design Course For Computer Engineering

Comunicació presentada a EDULEARN2019, 11th International Conference on Education and New Learning Technologies (July 1-3, 2019, Palma, Mallorca, Spain).Computer engineering is a branch of engineering that integrates several fields of computer science and electronics engineering required to develop computer hardware and software. The Universitat Jaume I (UJI) of Castellón, Spain, is teaching the Bachelor’s Degree of Computer Engineering. The degree’s aim is to train students with the abilities to design, implement and maintain computer systems for any sector of economic activity. These studies were in the past a five years pre-Bologna curriculum and now they are developed under the Bologna approach. Four professional profiles are established for graduates in this degree: Specialization track in information technologies, Specialization Track in Computer Engineering, Specialization Track in Information Systems and Specialization Track in Software Engineering. The degree is composed by different courses. One of these courses is the information systems analysis and design course. It addresses the necessary basic knowledge and competencies to produce graduate with the advanced knowledge, skills, expertise and competencies required to apply a systematic methodology for the analysis and design of information systems, together with the appropriate methods, techniques and tools. The aim of this paper is to show the methodology and learning solutions used to train the students to undertake information systems analysis and design in any kind of organizations.
