Social Learning over Weakly-Connected Graphs
In this paper, we study diffusion social learning over weakly-connected
graphs. We show that the asymmetric flow of information hinders the learning
abilities of certain agents regardless of their local observations. Under some
circumstances that we clarify in this work, a scenario of total influence (or
"mind-control") arises where a set of influential agents ends up shaping the
beliefs of non-influential agents. We derive useful closed-form expressions
that characterize this influence, and which can be used to motivate design
problems to control it. We provide simulation examples to illustrate the

The Strategic Exploitation of Limited Information and Opportunity in Networked Markets
This paper studies the effect of constraining interactions within a market. A model is analysed in which boundedly rational agents trade with and gather information from their neighbours within a trade network. It is demonstrated that a traderâs ability to profit and to identify the equilibrium price is positively correlated with its degree of connectivity within the market. Where traders differ in their number of potential trading partners, well-connected traders are found to benefit from aggressive trading behaviour.Where information propagation is constrained by the topology of the trade network, connectedness affects the nature of the strategies employed
Distributed Clustering and Learning Over Networks
Distributed processing over networks relies on in-network processing and
cooperation among neighboring agents. Cooperation is beneficial when agents
share a common objective. However, in many applications agents may belong to
different clusters that pursue different objectives. Then, indiscriminate
cooperation will lead to undesired results. In this work, we propose an
adaptive clustering and learning scheme that allows agents to learn which
neighbors they should cooperate with and which other neighbors they should
ignore. In doing so, the resulting algorithm enables the agents to identify
their clusters and to attain improved learning and estimation accuracy over
networks. We carry out a detailed mean-square analysis and assess the error
probabilities of Types I and II, i.e., false alarm and mis-detection, for the
clustering mechanism. Among other results, we establish that these
probabilities decay exponentially with the step-sizes so that the probability
of correct clustering can be made arbitrarily close to one.Comment: 47 pages, 6 figure

Market theory is often concerned only with centralised markets. In this paper, we consider a market that is distributed over a network, allowing us to characterise spatially (or temporally) segregated markets. The effect of this modification on the behaviour of a market populated by simple trading agents was examined. It was demonstrated that an agentâs ability to identify the optimum market price is positively correlated with its network connectivity. A better connected agent receives more information and, as a result, is better able to judge the market state. The ZIP trading agent algorithm is modified in light of this result. Simulations reveal that trading agents which take account of the quality of the information that they receive are better able to identify the optimum price within a market
Incremental embodied chaotic exploration of self-organized motor behaviors with proprioceptor adaptation
This paper presents a general and fully dynamic embodied artificial neural system, which incrementally explores and learns motor behaviors through an integrated combination of chaotic search and reflex learning. The former uses adaptive bifurcation to exploit the intrinsic chaotic dynamics arising from neuro-body-environment interactions, while the latter is based around proprioceptor adaptation. The overall iterative search process formed from this combination is shown to have a close relationship to evolutionary methods. The architecture developed here allows realtime goal-directed exploration and learning of the possible motor patterns (e.g., for locomotion) of embodied systems of arbitrary morphology. Examples of its successful application to a simple biomechanical model, a simulated swimming robot, and a simulated quadruped robot are given. The tractability of the biomechanical systems allows detailed analysis of the overall dynamics of the search process. This analysis sheds light on the strong parallels with evolutionary search
