    Optimization of cut surface quality during CNC Plasma Arc Cutting process

    Optimization of cut surface quality during CNC plasma-arc cutting (PAC) of mild steel plates is presented. Using design of experiments (DOE) the optimum process parameters are estimated. The process parameters tested include cutting speed, cutting height and arc voltage. Analysis of means (ANOM) and analysis of variances (ANOVA) were used in order for the effect of each parameter on the surface quality to be assessed

    Using Multiple Fidelity Numerical Models for Floating Offshore Wind Turbine Advanced Control Design

    This paper summarises the tuning process of the Aerodynamic Platform Stabiliser control loop and its performance with Floating Offshore Wind Turbine model. Simplified Low-Order Wind turbine numerical models have been used for the system identification and control tuning process. Denmark Technical University's 10 MW wind turbine model mounted on the TripleSpar platform concept was used for this study. Time-domain simulations were carried out in a fully coupled non-linear aero-hydro-elastic simulation tool FAST, in which wind and wave disturbances were modelled. This testing yielded significant improvements in the overall Floating Offshore Wind Turbine performance and load reduction, validating the control technique presented in this work.This work was partially funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness through the research project DPI2017-82930-C2-2-R

    The detection of gear noise computed by integrating the Fourier and Wavelet methods

    This paper presents a new gearbox noise detection algorithm based on analyzing specific points of vibration signals using the Wavelet Transform. The proposed algorithm is compared with a previouslydeveloped algorithm associated with the Fourier decomposition using Hanning windowing. Simulation carried on real data demonstrate that the WT algorithm achieves a comparable accuracy while having a lower computational cost. This makes the WT algorithm an appropriate candidate for fast processing of noise gear box

    Modeling of a Variable-BVR Rotary Valve Free Piston Expander/Compressor

    The concept of a free-piston expansion/compression unit with a variable Built-in Volume Ratio (BVR) is proposed. This device has no crankshaft mechanism which provides a possibility to optimize the expansion process free of mechanical limitations. An additional degree of freedom is used, namely the rotation to control the in- and the outlet ports timing. Further, the operation in the expander mode will be described. In most of the existing linear expanders/compressors, bouncing chambers or devices are used to reverse the piston movement at extreme positions. This approach is characterized by relatively high energy losses due to irreversibility of such a process. As an alternative, a fully controlled movement of the piston is proposed. This paper is focused on the control algorithm based on rules, which have been obtained and based on the insight in the system. Including the rotation timing, resulting in an optimal expansion process with an outlet pressure matching with the required one
