Implementation of Collaborative E-learning System for Unstable Environment
We design a collaborative e-learning system for stable operation in an unstable environment of developing countries. The proposed system is used for providing a collaborative learning among local schools of rural area in Nepal. The stable operation of the system is realized by the redundant robustness in three different levels: network arrangement, energy management, and replicative database. In this paper, we present an overall design of the system and its use case. Then, methods adopted for achieving the redundancy in each level are described
Managing evolution and change in web-based teaching and learning environments
The state of the art in information technology and educational technologies is evolving constantly.
Courses taught are subject to constant change from organisational and subject-specific reasons. Evolution
and change affect educators and developers of computer-based teaching and learning environments alike â
both often being unprepared to respond effectively. A large number of educational systems are designed
and developed without change and evolution in mind. We will present our approach to the design and
maintenance of these systems in rapidly evolving environments and illustrate the consequences of evolution
and change for these systems and for the educators and developers responsible for their implementation and
deployment. We discuss various factors of change, illustrated by a Web-based virtual course, with the
objective of raising an awareness of this issue of evolution and change in computer-supported teaching and
learning environments. This discussion leads towards the establishment of a development and management
framework for teaching and learning systems
Evolution of Supply Chain Collaboration: Implications for the Role of Knowledge
Increasingly, research across many disciplines has recognized the shortcomings of the traditional âintegration prescriptionâ for inter-organizational knowledge management. This research conducts several simulation experiments to study the effects of different rates of product change, different demand environments, and different economies of scale on the level of integration between firms at different levels in the supply chain. The underlying paradigm shifts from a static, steady state view to a dynamic, complex adaptive systems and knowledge-based view of supply chain networks. Several research propositions are presented that use the role of knowledge in the supply chain to provide predictive power for how supply chain collaborations or integration should evolve. Suggestions and implications are suggested for managerial and research purposes

Research methods and methodologies for studying organisational learning
The purpose of this paper is to compare and evaluate the main research methods and methodologies
for studying organisational learning (OL), and propose a framework for their selection. It presents a
comprehensive review of literature on OL, learning organisation (LO) and research methods and
reports evidence on recent developments in research methods for studying OL. The paper highlighted
on the purists and pragmatistsâ views of research methodologies as basis of the study. The results
revealed that the research methods and methodologies for studying OL do not reflect on the differing
views of the purists and pragmatistsâ debate but rather conform to the convergence ideologies of the
two camps. Particularly, the outcomes augment the use of triangulation and suggest that the choice of
method(s) should be consistent with research aims and epistemological philosophy of OL.
Consequently, the study recommends OL Research Methods Framework as a useful guide for selecting
a suitable approach in the area. The paper recommends ethnography for future research
consideration
Evaluating Foundation-Supported Capacity Building: Lessons Learned
This study of lessons learned from evaluations of philanthropic capacity building programs used a national database of 473 programs, and a survey and interviews with 87 funders (82 foundations or foundation collaboratives, and five foundation-supported intermediaries) to answer two questions:1) How do foundations that support nonprofit capacity building evaluate their grantmaking and direct service activities?2) What lessons can be learned from evaluation, both to improve these programs and justify the investments made in them
Mediating boundaries between knowledge and knowing: ICT and R4D praxis
Research for development (R4D) praxis (theory-informed practical action) can be underpinned by the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) which, it is claimed, provide opportunities for knowledge working and sharing. Such a framing implicitly or explicitly constructs a boundary around knowledge as reified, or commodified â or at least able to be stabilized for a period of time (first order knowledge). In contrast âthird-generation knowledgeâ emphasizes the social nature of learning and knowledge-making; this reframes knowledge as a negotiated social practice, thus constructing a different system boundary. This paper offers critical reflections on the use of a wiki as a data repository and mediating technical platform as part of innovating in R4D praxis. A sustainable social learning process was sought that fostered an emergent community of practice among biophysical and social researchers acting for the first time as R4D co-researchers. Over time the technologically mediated element of the learning system was judged to have failed. This inquiry asks: How can learning system design cultivate learning opportunities and respond to learning challenges in an online environment to support R4D practice? Confining critical reflection to the online learning experience alone ignores the wider context in which knowledge work took place; therefore the institutional setting is also considered
Power and multistakeholderism in internet global governance. Towards a synergetic theoretical framework
With the advancement of multistakeholder collaboration as a governance principle in theglobal Internet Governance, how to investigate the political process in a âshared powerâenvironment emerges as a challenging methodological issue. In this paper, a synergetic theoretical approach is proposed to the study of Internet governance political process, which focuses on the concept of power, and crosses the boundaries of three academic fields, namely, Political Philosophy, Political Science and International Relations, and Organization Studies. This approach aggregates, in a descending analytical manner, concepts intrinsically linked to the contemporary shifting governance paradigm (i.e. governmentality, global governance, global public-policy networks, shared power, multistakeholder collaboration). In addition, such an approach brings the collaborative process into focus (rather than the decisions it leads to) by accentuating the productive potential of a collaboration based on the âshared powerâ formula. Each of those theoretical reflections on shifting power relations provides building elements for a synergetic theoretical framework that can be, and has been, applied to the investigation of the emergent Internet governance regime. As a result, stakeholder alliances can be mapped, instances of power dynamics can be discerned, and some longitudinal tangible and intangible outcomes of the multistakeholder collaboration can be envisioned
